Great info right here! I went threw the same question when I re-entered the hobby. Nice breakdown of all the different track and comparability of each. This will definitely save many time and money. 🙌🏻
I am glad to see you producing new videos again! This was an absolutely GREAT and educational video! You touched everything I wanted to know and understand about the compatibility of these various track pieces in a very clear and laypersons way! Keep up the good videos!
Thanks for the comment and since you are wanting to get into digital, feel free to ask any questions. We are always happy to help people with the hobby.
Great information.. track can get so expensive if you are constantly changing your layout. I am in the middle of a layout change that I highlighted in my last video.. the boarders were the killer 😂😂 thanks bro!
I hear you about the borders. They practically triple the price of the track when used on both inside and outside. About that dilemma you are having with that 1/60 turn...you may find that with a variable-radius turn you'll find better flow if it goes from either gradual to tighter (4-rad to 3-rad to 2-rad) or the other way, tighter to more gradual (1-rad to 2-rad to 3, etc.), but don't have them mixed around (3-rad, 2-rad,4-rad, 1-rad for example). Having those 1/60s in place they don't make sense are difficult to get a hang of. If you are having a problem with it then your guests will most certainly, too.
Would also like to see a video on Scalextric track. Maybe a comparison between the two digital systems on functionality, cost, slot car compatibility, Dealer support, availability durability.
Thanks. I am doing research on getting into digital tracks. My dad got scx before everywhere in states quit selling stuff for it. Love the system so im leaning to carrera cause of part availability. Just havent been able to drop the $400 on a set yet.
Great video, learnt lots about the old track systems. How about a video of the current options for switching a digital track so as to be able to run analogue cars on it? I know of only one conversion box (after market)…are there any other options? Might make a good video?👍🇦🇺🇬🇧😎🏁Max.
Well done. I would like to see more of Sharon Cox. I saved a lot of money buying "gently used" track. I got lucky and found a guy who lived close by & I'd meet him to avoid shipping costs. You may have covered this in another video but there are some compatibility issues with the "Black Box" vs. the Control Unit which is needed to run the newer digital accessories but lane changers are interchangeable. I think I got that right...
I've not thought about the compatibility of the Black Box but I would guess it might not work with the advanced pit lane adapter and the Bluetooth module. Other than that I'm confident that the other digital stuff is forward and/or backward compatible with CU or Black Box save for Pro-X components. Regarding Sharon, we are hoping we can get her back for a follow-up vid. Not sure on that yet, though. Fingers crossed.

it's a shame my dad got me start with scalextrics since now i have a tone of scalextric track & a few cars as i just added to the first starter set. it wasn't until later that i learnt about carriera, it does seem interesting
Just bought a digital starter track, to incorporate in my Carrera analog track that has been dormant for 16 years . wow I has technology changed. I have several older analog Carrera cars that do not have the plug-in play. I realize I'll have to solder a digital chip in them in order to use on the digital tracks. My big question is are you able to incorporate the digital chip and other slot cars other than Carrera, in order to use on a Carrera digital track. Thanks for the info. My grandchildren love the small starter trick and are amazed when I showed him the big track in the basement we're going to get running. Thanks for your time
Yes, you can adapt cars from other brands to run on Carrera digital. Depending on the brand and year of manufacture, some will be plug-n-play with certain decoders. Others will require customizing of the chassis in order to accommodate the chip.
Hey mate don’t suppose you can do one for Scaletrix, maybe im just stupid but all the store fronts local to me dont state weather or not its digital or analog.
The principles of digital signal transmission is basically the same for Scalextric. The standard pieces of track (Sport Track) will work in a Scaley digital or analog set. Anything with electronics such as lane changers or pit lane entry will be digital only. The older Scalextric track is a different story (sometimes referred to as "loop track"). It can also be used in a digital set but they connect much differently and you need adapters to connect the older and newer pieces. A channel titled Slot Car Dad has a video on adapting new and old style Scalextric track pieces: ruclips.net/video/tJCLqJHHGiI/видео.html
Yes but you will need additional components, however. Digital controllers and a compatible transformer, plus however many lane change tracks you want to use. Also, digital cars; either chip your current analog cars or get cars that are digital already. All that aforementioned stuff purchased individually (if bought new) will cost more than a new digital set. It would be better to get a digital set that would come with the CU, transformer, controllers, 2 cars, a lane changer, plus about 24 feet of additional track which you can incorporate into your current analog track for less cost.
I totally understand that makes sense, so a 30352 will work on evolution with transformer, great. I just don't have the finances to get digital set I have to slowly piece by piece put it together thanks for your help great show
@johnniehobby, i love your videos! What about controller compatibility? Will the black with red rubber Evolution Pro-X wired controllers work with the newer control unit (30352) Are they similar to the blue handled wired controllers? Have you or anyone test the ProX ones with the new CU?
My understanding is that the wired controllers are still the same (internally) across the Pro-X and D132 and they can be used interchangeably. I don't have an older controller to test and verify that, however.
I’ve been watching your videos. Wanting to get the digital 132 track with 124 cars. Combine 3 - 6 x 3 tables for 6 x 9 racing. I’d like the wider track with the digital lap counter and pole. I’ll probably get the Bluetooth as well. I wanted to know would the mario kart carrera work on the digital track since it’s analog?
Analog cars won't run on a track with the digital control unit installed. You would need replace it with the analog power base. Then you'd be able to run any 1:43, 1:32, and 1:24 analog cars, even those that are non-Carrera.
The way Pro-X works is very different than the current digital. The DIP switch settings won't change the protocol. The only way to get that to work is swap out the decoder in the Pro-X car with a decoder for the current digital system.
GO track. Look different then digital new track in the pin setup. Do they just work or if I cut 1 of each in half and reconnect opposite sides to create a "jumper" is needed?.
Go is dumb track in digital world. Straight, curves, etc... interlocking ? Seams like an easy cut and paste fix that would allow cheep GO track to be put into your set.
Analog cars will not work on the digital track. You'd need to do one of two things in order to run the analog cars on a digital track: 1) install a digital decoder (chip) into the analog cars to make them digital, or 2) Modify the Carrera control unit to switch between analog and digital operation. A company named Tek-Slots makes a unit that can make the track switchable. Another option would be to swap out the digital control unit with the original analog power base. That would turn the track back to analog. You can leave the lane changers in (they just won't work) but need to be sure there are no jumpers in those tracks that would power both lanes. I think only the lane changers on the turn have those jumpers. You can remove those and leave them out even after putting the digital control unit back in.
Hi I have a 1/43 Scale carrera track 2 lane and trying to build 4 lane how do you get the Curves to fit side by side like the straights do so do I have to have different sizes and what size Curves do I need.If you can get back to me as soon as you can I would appreciate it. Thanks. Will.
In order to nest turns for a 4-lane track you do indeed need different radii. R2 turns will fit perfectly on the outside of R1 turns, and R3 turns will fit on the outside of R2s.
Sorry if this has already been talked about. I have the Pro X set that has been in storage for years. Thinking of going to the new digital set. Will my Pro X controllers work on the new system? Thanks for your help.
Yes, but won't be a direct plug-n-play like some of the digital-ready cars are now. It'll require some customizing of the chassis and a slight re-wire.
Yes. That will work. You'll need to use the Evolution power supply and controllers, too. And, you can leave the digital accessories in the track (lane changers and pit stop) they just won't function at all. You may need to reverse the polarity on the Evolution power base (or just put it in backwards) to get the cars to run in the same direction as digital. If you've got any of the curved lane changers in the layout, I've heard that the power is bridged across the lanes so you may need to modify that track piece, though. That should be as easy as clipping the wires that bridge across the lanes. None of the other digital pieces should need to be modified.
Pretty much all the Evolution/analog Carrera cars are digital ready and installing a decoder to make it digital is pretty easy. If you want to convert the track to digital that is more involved. You would need the digital control unit (basically that makes the track digital), plus a new power supply, digital controllers (the analog ones won't work), and lane change tracks, plus a decoder for each car you want to convert. All those items separately will cost more than just getting an entire digital set. You can then add all the existing track (except the power base) from the Evolution set to the new set.
Correct. Carrera track is actually 1:24 so it's the same track whether you get a 1:24 or 1:32 set. There's a couple differences between the sets. The obvious one is that the 1:32 set comes with 1:32 cars and 1:24 set with 1:24 cars. Also, the 1:32 will come with a 14.8V transformer and the 1:24 set includes a 18V transformer. In addition, the 1:24 will most likely also include shoulders for the turns where a 1:32 set will not.
I was wondering the same thing. Is the black box,the older carrera digital the same as the newer control unit. Will new carrera digital cars work with the black box/older digital power station?
@@keithfilkins2043 All the D132 and D124 cars will work with the older Black Box. Some track features, such as the advanced pit lane adapter and the newer lap counters will not.
