Asus Zenfone 9 vs Google Pixel 6a vs Xiaomi 12 | Best Compact Phones Compared!

  • Comparing Asus' Zenfone 9 vs Google's Pixel 6a and the Xiaomi 12, to see which compact smartphone has the best camera tech, gaming performance, battery life and beyond! I've reviewed all three of these phones and I'd happily use any full-time although the Zenfone 9 really impresses - and the Pixel 6a is considerably cheaper, so budget may be a big factor.
    For camera lovers, the Google phone performs well for the price. Some will prefer the boosted hues of the Zenfone 9, although Asus' blower does produce incredibly warm, artificial looking video. The Xiaomi 12 is a happy medium, not tinkering so much with the colours, although the selfie cam does struggle more in strong or low light.
    Gamers will adore the Zenfone 9 and Xiaomi 12, which boast Snapdragon smarts, dedicated cooling tech and proper gaming tools. Genshin Impact on max settings? No worries! The Pixel 6a unfortunately is best used for PubG, CODM and other more basic Android titles.
    Battery life is good on all three compact smartphones although the Zenfone 9 again wins this round, outperforming with a smaller capacity battery. It is defeated on the software support side, however.
    So which do you think is best?

    If enough of us buy the Zenfone 9 it will encourage Asus and probably other brands to bring back flagships in a compact factor. If we don't then we might let the only compact phone left die and we're then left with huge chunky tablets to carry around! Remember that consumers are the ones that make or break a business. Besides, how many phones still offer a headphone jack?!

      While I fully agree with the statement, the problem is on Asus', not on the consumers'. Its availability is so limited that even If I wanted to buy it (Which in the past, when I was looking for a phone, I considered its predecesor) I can't. It's not available in my country, hell, not even my region.
      Pixel suffers from the same problem. "damn, people don't buy Pixels, wonder why?" and then you go to their website and some of their past phones had oficial availability in 3 countries, three!! How do they expect to sell with that strategy? Asus I might understand, but Google has no excuse in terms of funding and expanding.

      @@holemas I understand how frustrating this experience can be! Hopefully they'll take note and fix this in the near future. Nowadays, you can order many things online even if they're not available in your region. This might still be an option to consider.

      I don't understand why they don't. it can't be that hard to do, just pay a few nerds a bit of overtime, presumably it's just keeping the platform stable to allow normal android updates. Having said that I can live happily without updates so long as apps keep working for a few years

    • @KillOnS
      @KillOnS 2 года назад +8

      @@subspaceanomaly Because they have ROG and Zenfone lineups that come out annually that they put a lot of work into.. In 2 years they will release 4 more phones and then you'd have to be taking care of 5 phones softwares. I guess it wouldn't be an issue if they were earning a lot from the sales of their zenfones but as far as I know phone market is where they make the least of their profits. When I heard about LG shutting down their phone division, I thought the same fate might await Asus but I'm really surprised to still see them go this strong even with that little profits (especially due to hardware they put into their phones for the price.. They use sony's sensors, samsung's screens and SnapDragon flagships SOC's in their phones for the price of under $1k every year and u know using other companies's hardwares costs a lot since they're all competitors in the phone market - even snapdragon has had a phone come out). That should explain to you why only 2 years. But if the zenfone 9 sells really well, the "+" on 2+ years might end up being 4 or even more

    • @KillOnS
      @KillOnS 2 года назад +1

      @@subspaceanomaly due to low popularity of Asus phones, the sales haven't been great (which is really unfair because their phones are criminally underrated) and when u factor in the minimal profit margin they make per sale due to reasons stated above, having a long term software support costs more than they end up getting in return because programmers aren't cheap

    Question! What launcher are you using for them all three?
    The Zenfone 9 hurts my hands/thumbs after 30 days of usage. Not using it excessively (since it hurts ;P) so probably going to try the Xiaomi 12.

    I have ridiculously shaky hands, so I'm wondering if the Zenfone's gimbal will help mitigate that whenever I need to take a steady pic of something? There's honestly a lot drawing me to the Zenfone, like the side mounted fingerprint unlock, but Xiaomi 12 is appealing too, especially since my current phone is a Xiaomi 9 Lite. Would be kind of amusing going from a Xiaomi 9 to a Zenfone 9.

    The Zenfone being the smallest, having the headphone jack and the power button scanner wins out for me. Almost wish I hadn't been able to update the camera software on my Xperia 5 ii to make me happy with the camera after over a year of frustration with it (sideloaded the newer Photo Pro app they haven't released for the older Xperia phones), as now I don't really have an excuse to get the Zenfone.

    How would you say the Zenfone 9 compares to the Pixel 6 (rather than the 6a)? Ever since its announcement, I've kept my eye on it because I miss having a compact(er) phone.
    I've had Pixel 6 since release and while I like it, it's so *heavy*. That said, I'm hesitant to buy anything else at the moment due to the pre-order trade-in deal I got for it (essentially free after 24 months of bill credits).
    PS Thanks for your review on the Pixel 6 back then too, it helped me decide on going with the non-Pro and I'm glad I did!

    I want to get the Zenfone 9, but I always use a case with my phone since I am clumsy, but I also want to use the fingerprint scanner, and I have no idea how that would work with heavy-duty cases. Oh, also, it's $800 compared to the $450 Pixel 6a. I use a Pixel 4a, and I have had good experiences with previous Pixels, so I am stuck with 2 choices: Get the flagship phone with the small screen, or the mid-ranger with a larger screen...

    Thanks for your review and this comparison. But your always saying battery of Zenfone 8 sucks, and I've reached 6 hours of SOT with 29 hours of use. You should say it would suck for very heavy user. I usually arrive to 3 hours of screen use, so I'm ok with that. Thanks again, I like yours reviews so much.
