Yep. You will continue to wish for the backhoe. It allows you to do jobs which are difficult or impossible for the bucket.
Tim, Dan from Canada here with an important note. I normally don’t comment, just enjoy your videos. However in this video you mention that public utility locates wouldn’t help since the lines/services were not public. While this is true you should always get a private locator to come out and locate your lines/services in a situation like this. This is not only more efficient but much safer and it doesn’t cost much. I was cringing when you were exposing the gas lines with the bucket. You have a responsibility to show the safe way of working when you have this many followers. Looking forward to the next instalment in the series.
We were much safer than it appeared. We had the line located only 3’ upstream. Just being extra careful.
You should always lay yellow caution tape 6 to 12" above your buried wires. That would save a lot of headaches and worry. Also lay caution tape in the trench above your gas pipe.
You should perhaps watch more of video before starting with the “You should always...” comments.
If that wire wasn't bad when you started, it was bad when you finished. Especially when you hit it with the trencher. 😃😃😀 Good idea about it he pictures and drawings about where lines are run. I have run a couple of power wires on my property and it would have been a good idea.

I had the same problem between my house and shop about a 40 run across the back yard, lost one leg of the 220 feed. I always blamed it on a lightning strike I had had a couple of years previously.
Tim would putting the new wire in conduit solve the problem of the rock kinking the wire

The idea of a trench bucket is good but they are not wide enough to see or work in the ditch
in my experience rocks come up not down.
I love watching these Family Farm videos, makes me nostalgic of my time on the farm as a kid with my grand parents working on projects that needed to be done. Didn't matter how it was done as long as it got done. Simpler times indeed. What I would give for a few more projects...

That particular gas line was turned off at the tank, and has not been used for 20 years. We failed to communicate that useful tidbit during the filming :-)

Always put in the conduit first then pull your wire through. Take baler twine and tie a plastic bag to the end of the twine place the bag in the conduit go to the other end with a shop vac and the shop vac will pull the twine through the conduit then tie the wire to the twine and pull the wire through

Tim, is it difficult to change to the trench bucket on the 1025R? I just purchased one because I have to dig a trench for electrical lines. I’m asking because I’m 65 years old and widowed and have to do things myself. Thank you. I have a 260 backhoe on my 2014 -1025R
Not crazy difficult, Susan. You can leave the bucket on the floor.and move the tractor/boom to it.
You will need a hammer and a long punch to help remove the pins.
There is a quick attach available from bxpanded if you want to avoid removing pins in the longer term.

Morning Tim, when I lower the bucket on my 1025r the left side is 1 1/2” lower than the right. Is there a way to level this? I have checked tire presser and looked for mounting adjustments but no luck. Do you have any ideas. Merry Christmas
Is rear ballast centered?
Start measuring ‘things’,their distance from the ground. See if you can find the area showing the difference.
Sometimes this is simply moving the backhoe left to right, turning the front wheels, etc.

Some places in the country have different types of soil. And conditions. On the letsdig site the soil is muddy and sand. They have to bring in several inches of clay, roll it, put down fabric, the two sizes of stone. I think they're in the Pennsylvania area. Further north they use shale instead of gravel. Here in Kansas we just pack the hard clay, then use gravel because we are on mostly layers of limestone. It just depends on the area you are in. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Electric lines need to be a minimum of 18" below grade, and 24" deep if there's vehicle traffic. Also , ALWAYS put wire in pvc pipe., even if the wire is "direct burial" rated. You will never have a problem with it again, unless some hits it with tools or machinery. Haven't had to fix a piped line that I installed in 40 years. Schedule 40 in the ground and on a wall but you need to emerge from the ground up to the 6' mark with sch 80 pipe to protect the wire from damage due to lawn mowers and weed trimmers and the like.
I am not trying to be an arm chair quarterback, but wouldn't a Ventrac plow and powerbroom cover that trench up faster than the loaders? Very impressive on the Ventrac trencher. From what I have seen on other videos, I don't think anything can trench as fast or efficient.
The power rake would have been great for filling it. Unfortunately, this site is 200 miles from my house. Ya use what ya brung.
I purchased a cheap buried wire locate tool on amazon for like 20 bucks. Has come in super handy. Its cheap, but effective.
