  • A lot of video reviews on these lens have been very positive. Most of these videos received free gear to review. Here, I bought my own lens with my own money to see if they really do compare to the free ones they some have received for review.
This is video is based on my experience from buying the lens. I would definitely like to hear more from those who have purchased these for the iPhone 15 Pro. Maybe mine are defects and everyone else's are perfect.
Recorded on iPhone 15 Pro and 13 Pro. Edit on VN editor on iPhone 15 Pro
Note: Switching between my 15pro and 13pro messed with the HDR performance when uploaded to RUclips.

I LOVE THIS REVIEW! Thank you so much for taking the time to make it, it answers so many questions I have!
I screamed out loud when you showed your grip, I bought the exact same one! The black SnapGrip was sold out so I figured I'd try out the cheap clone and buy the official one later on Amazon if I felt I needed the battery.

I think the reason you have the issue is the Apple photo app. For those lenses you have to use a 3rd party camera app.

Wow those telephoto examples were devastating. So much softness and blur 🫠
One thing I wonder: Did you use a tripod for those shots, or were they handheld? Some of the blur seemed like it COULD have been caused by hand-shake. Maybe part of the problem is that the image stabilization in the camera just can't keep up with the extra length. Of course it's a basic property of photography that the longer the lens, the shorter your exposure has to be to reduce camera shake, and the default lens on the iPhone is very wide so normally it doesn't need that much.
I don't think this could explain the entire problem of course, but I wonder if it's a factor. There were a couple of spots in your second sign image that looked better with the ShiftCam lens, specifically the screws at the top. They looked sharp enough, and had a better glow with less noise, which is exactly what I'd expect on a cloudy low-light day like that. The question is why everything else is so smudged!
Thanks again for this review! My 60mm and case are on their way, and I'm kind of dreading it, but also kind of fascinated to do my own documentation of the issues with them.
My hope, foolish as it may be, is that the lens might still be useful for portraits in low light, where the 2x lens on iPhone 15 gives horrible results, and the softness won't be the end of the world (sometimes it makes portraits better). I know I won't use it for landscapes or anything like that, but for pictures of people indoors, it might give results with "personality" 😅

Ah no, I see now that in the first example images with 60mm you have the shutter speed up on screen, both faster than 1/2000. There's no reason a shot at that speed should have motion blur affecting it at all 😔

@@jerclarkedotorg yeah i was really disappointed. I included the text photo to show the blurriness of the lens with details. Faces were also blurry as well but my wife didn't want the kids' faces on RUclips. I plan to upload more photos and also do a full review of the camera grip.
I really hope it's just my Shiftcam lenses that are bad and yours are perfect. Let me know how yours turns out.

my buttons and lens mount are plastic, not aluminum as they claim.
      Piece of crap

@@jw-lk1pe oh wow. I suspect they got so many orders that they are just relabeling their older generation products and shipping them out.

@@jw-lk1pe Weird! Was it the iPhone 15 Pro case, or something else?
One of the worst things about their marketing is the ambiguity of what is what. The page for all the different cases shows images of other cases from the line, e.g. on the page for iPhone 15 cases, they show the iPhone 14 cases without identifying them. It makes it impossible to understand which features apply to your particular product.
Their internal review system is similar. It seems like you're looking at reviews for the product you're looking at, but then some of them will be for something completely different!
The only way to get good information is from RUclips 🤷🏻‍♀

I bought these same 2 lenses, so I can confirm that they are awful.
The 60mm is pretty useless. NOT sharp, can't use it in Portrait mode, and if you just use the 48mp RAW MAX mode, you can crop to 60mm equivalent and get much sharper result.
How this product made it to market is a mystery to me.
Also, it has a reddish lens flare on most shots....and it shows up even when not shooting into light sources. Just awful quality
