A Spartan was my first sewing machine. I wish I still had it.

I downloaded a manual for this machine. I have 2 of them. both garage sale 'finds'. BUT - I don't know where or how to oil them. I got them running - and would like to use them but I'm guessing they need oiling?

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier...I just found this message. Oiling this machine is pretty straight forward. First thing is to get SEWING MACHINE oil. It's formulated different than household 3-in-1 oil.
The basic rule is that you want to put a drop of oil wherever two pieces of metal move against each other. Starting along the top of the machine, there are a number of small holes that need a drop of oil. Those holes may or may not have oil wicks. Sometimes the wicks get lost. Regardless, put a drop or two in each hole along the top of the machine.
Remove the plate that covers the needle bar and presser foot mechanism. Just put a drop of oil on everything that moves...every pivot point, hinge or hole where that needle bar or presser foot bar slides. If it moves, OIL it.
When you remove the slide cover over the bobbin, you may see a piece of felt (likely red)...put a drop of oil on it. That oils the hook.
Underneath the machine...same rule. If it moves, oil it. Even if it only moves a little bit. Every hinge, bushing, shaft. Where ever two pieces of metal rub against each other, they get a drop of oil.

Japanese clones had much better design, light, nickel/chome exterior parts for the same price of this Spartan.
