- Polymaker is switching all filaments onto 100% recycled cardboard spools. This move will save thousands of tonnes of plastic waste each year and no new trees will be cut down to produce the spools as they are made from recycled cardboard.
Key Features:
4mm thick rolled and die-cut cardboard face
High-temperature glue that can withstand oven drying at 100°C
Easily recycled after use

What they should do is sell a reusable spool and sell refills so we don't deal with damaged cardboard spool.
most excellent!
Even at our level, getting rid of empty spools is so much easier and environmentally now. Thanks!
Good stuff, next phase cardboard spools with threads or key slots for disassemble/reassemble to work as masterspool so its good for the bin or good for reuse. Great stuff love the material and methods poly is using/innovating to distribute.
Ah i see you took a page from the "Dr Quads" book of dropping things on the floor to show its strength haha😂
I'd prefer the Bambu Labs solution, plastic reusable spools with cardboard refills. These cardboard spools get damaged, warped and are just not strong enough.
Cheers for the move! Another reason to love your filament even more!! My suggestion for users is if you are not already using one, to be sure to use an inline filament dust filter as cardboard dust can contaminate the filament.
More Companies need to do this. Should of been this way from the start. Cardboard can even suck some of the moister.
This is great! I hope more companies will follow suit.
Also the QR code AND print info is also a great choice. The QR code is good for finding more info, but not if I just want to know basic settings. Having this info on the box and the spool gives the user access to all necessary information. It lets them choose how they store it without having to take note of settings that aren’t immediately identifiable on the spool. In the box, in the resealable filament bag, or loose [ in an airtight container ;) ] the user has what they need to print with Polymaker!
Yay! Great job!
First
This is awesome, great to see u doing the right thing.
If only u guys were here in Uruguay i will instantly switch to your filaments
Second (if u wanna do a colab/sponsor tell me, i will be really happy :) )
This makes me happy
And carnt be used in a dryer box ..
awesome!
Consigliate anche in AMS di Bambu Lab. Grande scelta eco! Potreste fare la bobina in cartone a sgancio rapido come quelle di Bambu per inserire bobine refill ?
I have some of these from polyterra, and I have to wonder, is this cardboard actually biodegradable? Like really biodegradable and not the "requires an industrial biodegrader" that pla is? It seems so sturdy and thick I have a hard time imagining its put together with anything but a lot of resin.
If so, those are some good spools.
I suppose it would still be better than plastic which still isnt ever really recycled because its made out of recycled material.
Cardboard is as biodegradable as any tree...tis made from the same stuff + some glue.
A company that sells plastic worried about using plastic 🤔
its good for the enviroment but it cannot run on bareings at all. I am disappointed.
Not good for environment. That is pure fiction. Recyclers don't like this stuff due to additives. So it goes to the dump, but unlike plastics, quickly leaches chemicals into water. Not an improvement by any measure.
It also makes it too much work to use this with filament changers that preclude using warped and dirty cardboard rolls.
Save the recycled cardboard for toilet paper rolls.
That poor spool of gray.... F f f f f f...
One spool of Polysmooth was harmed in the making of this video
well, you lost a customer because of this move. I was about to order over $200.00 worth of filament for my bambu lab with ams and ran into an issue with these cardboard spools. the adapter did not work because something is wrong with the spool. I then went through the process of moving it to another empty spool (a bambu reusuable spool) and realized I would have to do that every time I open a new Polymaker filament. Sorry guys, this was a bad decision on your part. You should have went the bambu lab route and made your plastic spools reusable and sold just the filament without any spool to be placed in them.
There are pros and cons for for both solutions, thank you for your feedback, the most important is that you found a suitable products for your use.
Dumbest thing ever. Makes using this filament to frustrating to use in Bambu AMS.
Our recyclers won't take non corrugated "cardboard" due to the glues and fillers. So, we now have chemical impregnated cardboard going to the landfill tomwuickly Leach "whatever" the recyclers are afraid of getting into their recycling...but now going into our water supply.
Need to bring back the plastic reels for those who cannot dispose of the cardboard or who need clean debris free plastic reels for their automations.
