- I keep painting over my chrome parts in this video I get technical about painting wheels.
This video includes tips and tricks to get your wheels looking super smooth and glossy.
I also paint the chrome door handles, side steps and rear bumper bar.
Using controversial methods that may split viewers.
Some say remove the door handles others dont mind.
The comment section will show us who the keyboard warriors are as they jump at an opportunity to put someone or a method of doing something DOWN.

Everything I know about painting I've learned from watching your videos, good stuff DAVE!!!
Your videos have actually given me confidence to paint the chrome parts on my L200. Thank you.👍🏼👍🏼
How did you go with this?
Looking to do the same with our Sahara.
paint the tailgate handle and Nissan logo!!! then shave off the NAVARA STX lettering... then all the chrome will be gone! awesome job looks great!
Great video, you are great at your craft, most people who have full paint setups already know how to paint.
Thank you for your videos. You will give my 2005 Mini a new lease on life. I will use your methods to colour-code my headlight and rear light surrounds, plus my door handles. Should look great with more black-eye purple metallic adding to the overall theme 💜
Awesome videos dude very easy to watch and very informative, deffs one of the best paint channels on youtube
I'm not a car enthusiast at all, but that was great. You explain everything so well, I feel I was compelled to watch even though I will never ever paint a car 😁 (in saying that, if I ever have to I now know the basics 👍 ) Thank you.
Cheers for the very informative video. I'm in the process of doing my ford ranger... Removed my door interior panel to get the handles off... Then I found out that you can remove the door handles without doing that, there is a small screw in the door you can undo and the handles come right off
I agree about removing the door handles...I pulled one side off, and it was such a pain I masked and paint the other side on the car - much easier overall, just as good. But since I don’t have a different opinion from yours, does that mean I’m NOT a champion? Dang it. No Wheaties for me...that’s the breakfast of champions only.
You killed it, mad job I don't know why the manufacturers stick with chrome when black looks so much better
im in the usa and just got a Frontier(we dont have Navarras).I really hate the chrome\gray accents but love the truck!great video!def gave me some ideas on how to safely black mine out without taking it in.thanks!
Very nice. Don't know why companies love chrome so much. Looks way better
Yea and the irony is it's plastic lol
Looks awesome! I just picked up an old truck with a bunch of chrome parts I wanted to paint with rocker guard. These videos helped!
Fantastic job.
Wish I had a dust free area to paint mine.
You really crushed it!
Looks awesome, just need to de-badge it now to finish it off 👌🏻
Looking good Dave. I hate when they wash the car when getting it serviced. Sometimes I forget to tell them.
Tip: Just exchange those chrome parts with a lower spec model ones, mostly parts that are unpainted bare plastic, easier to prep and spray than chrome. Surely couple of the same car owners would gladly do that, probably increase their car value too
Badges, tailgate handle and as you mentioned window trim needs to be blacked out. But you make the payment if you are blacking out the chrome do it all. Thanks again for the information.
I remember back in early 2000’s people want it chrome everything mirrors, grille, bumper, rims etc etc now it’s the opposite blacked out everything we going backwards...
Chrome on cars back then actually looked decent imo now it just looks tacky as hell when they put it all over the car
I remember when I was in my 20's, I hated my black car handles and black bumpers. I guess at least the black out look is shinny in some cases. I have a Dark Blue 2001 GMC Yukon , I need to get it repainted cause of Paint peel on the hood and roof, I was thinking about having the roof wrapped in a black vinyl to save money on the paint job then doing blacked out GMC Emblems on the chrome Grille and lift gate but I plan on keeping the rims and grill Chrome.. His grill came out good being painted black but I have not seen a black grill on a early GMC Yukon that looks good..
If only all car manufacturers would get on board!!!
Should do a review on how it held up
Fuck the haters Dave, I love your channel and have done a lot of my own painting on my bike projects based on what you’ve shown me in your channel. Clearly most of these keyboard clowns have never tried any of this stuff themselves. Keep the videos coming.
Curious to know if painting messes with the sensors on the bumper
Wow you’ve made this nav look awesome
Dave, a spray mod I'd like to see is separating the headlights and painting the trim piece inside it.
Keep up the good work mate.
It looks amazing, nice work. Thank you for making this video, I've been considering doing the same thing to my truck.
No, YOU'RE A CHAMPION!
I made a spinning table from the base of a spinning sunglass stand. That way, I'm stationary, I spin the wheel and the lighting is consistant.
Looks way better than stock!
Does it matter if you spray over the sensors on the back bumper, I'm guessing the little round black dots are sensors? will it affect them if you do paint over them?
This guy has MAD patience!!!
Looks much better would appreciate some tips on the air pressures you are using I think it helps a lot for beginners like me to have some reference . Love your videos please keep them coming
Amazing job 👍👍👍
Wouldn’t matter what process you had taken. There’s always gonna be someone that will have an opinion on who you have gone about it.
Well done on the videos and keep it up 👍🏻
I love that he said congrats you're a champion XD
Some people hate masking...
Inkogneeto Art I agree bro
Both methods have there plus and minuses, one thing about opening doors is you could insulate and/or deaden them if have panels off, maybe upgrade the crappy speakers, and can easily reseal if break plastic (in ford was just black butyl rubber seal that can be replaced, or carefully restuck in our case), do risk the rattles though if break a clip which may or may not be devastating, nice video appreciate all the tips
Edit looks badass too good job
Looks heaps better. And I don't normally like black.
Hey mate this looks great. Got one question for you. Is it ok to just paint over bumper sensors? Im blacking out my car but stuck on the bumper. Have heard a mix of opinions about painting the sensors. Cheers
On your video about painting the chrome parts you showed what paint and clear coat to use if you don’t have access to a spray gun, any recommendations for doing the same steps for the wheels just with spray cans?
Paint the emblems too! 👍
looks awesome mate , maybe black out the badges as well
Curious why you didn’t sand after primer. Not necessary with etching primer?
Confused why an epoxy primer wasn't used for the bumper if it was metal. Also why just a clear coat and not a 2k clear coat finish
So you painted all the door handles and just left the tailgate handle chrome???? And painted over your packing sensor do they even still work
Does the additional paint interfere with the sensors or door lock/unlock buttons?
Just one last thing will be left, the badges, black them out :D
Mr Fizz he won’t
What’s the best wheel and grease remover do you recommend ?? Thank you
I'm in the process of de-chroming my Navara. I did the grille and surround, the first time i didn't use a clear lacquer but have since re-painted it and finished with a clear lacquer. But I've still got a couple of stone chips which then show the chrome. Any tips?
As for the door handles, I'm thinking of leaving them on too to paint.
Have you ever had your primer crack? Idk what could cause this most of my job came out good but I did have that happen and parts of my clear coat has a white haze
Great job. The truck looks so good. Should have come this way from the factory! Chrome doesn't belong on trucks imo.... Side note, I wish we had that truck in America.
EXACTLY, my son and I have the D40 V6 diesel we both hate the chrome bumpers and grill fortunately the door handles are black. A few freinds have had the NP 300 they got rid as soon as loads of issues with them.🇬🇧
I noticed you painted directly over your reversing sensors. That doesn’t affect them at all?
Not a mechanic, and very late reply, but those sensors are not optical, so it should be okay
Looks awesome!!!! Excellent work!!!
DAMN SIR THAT LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER, YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT FOR SURE. ME ? I'M GOING TO HAVE TO USE SPRAY CANS FOR NOW, NOT SURE WHAT TO USE ON MY ALUMINUM WHEELS. EPOXY PAINT I GUESS, FLAT BLACK OR MATTE BLACK. VERY EDUCATIONAL VIDS. YOU HAVE.
I'm thinking you should paint the Nissan logos as well. #banChrome
I have a question. What bed cover do you have on there that works with the sport bar?
Cheers for this, just about to start the process of my partners np300
How did the rims hold up? Did they chip over time?
Does it matter about separating over the reversing sensors.
Meant spraying
Is it OK to spray over the rear motion sensors? I'm want to PlastiDip my rear bumper, should I mask the sensors?
Did you mask off/clean up the rear parking sensors on the bumper?
I was wondering that too!!!!!
Thats a nice gto parked behind the frontier.
Got a quote on all the blackening ???????
What about the back letters and front logo ?
Ghost Graphics, or a close in color set of graphics perhaps with color shift.
What’s the difference between an adhesion promoter and etch primer? I’m doing the chrome trim on the interior of my tundra, it blinds the crap out of me. Do I need to use the etch primer as well? Was going to do: sand, adhesion promoter, black trim paint.. if needed I will definitely use the etch primer.
Dustin King on plastic chrome adhesion promoter will work. On metal chrome an etch primer is needed.
customspraymods Awesome, I’ve been looking for 1k etch primer and everything I see says it works for everything but plastic. It all makes sense now.... thanks a bunch.
Hi man , just wondering how much time do u wait between coats ? (primer paint clear)
Have you ever used a Devilbiss advance HD 1.3 H1, or heard anything good about them
Do a video on smoked out chrome.
Not painting the Nissan emblems?
Man that looks wayyyyyyyyyyyy better
Nice job. Emblems chrome?
Good work Dave!
So wait... You painted over the rear parking sensors... Will they work? Also, the button on the door handle for locking/unlocking, any adverse affects?
Hello, Yes the parking sensors work, many oem parking sensors are painted. The Door lock button also works fine.
@@customspraymods sweet, thanks for that
Do the emblems black too
Man, who cares what they say. Great job! Wanna paint my truck for me. Rims already black.
Really well done! Love what you did on the wheels, in fact it inspires so much that I decided to paint my 2018 Outback wheels (black like yours). Came out really good as well. How much time do I have to wait before I can put tire conditioner (tire black), also when can I polish and or wax them? Cheers!
Chris Alcantara the next day is fine. Thanks mate
Nice work.
Awesome vid again man! Question, if I use concept’s ep41 epoxy, can I thin it out like you did with the etch primer and spray over without sanding?
CS Studios not really with that one. It takes way too long to dry.
What about the chrome left around the window's? These never get the attention and stand out real bad on an otherwise awesome job!
Vinyl wrap would
Be good there, maybe easier then paint
Awesome job mate! What's the resilience of that paint to wear though? Same as what the original base coat is??
Western Spy this now has more clear then the body so it's pretty good.
G'Day Dave, no issues with painting over the door lock buttons on the handle? Otherwise, great content mate, thanks for sharing!
Sean Pereira no issues still works fine
If I'm repainting a metal hood and I sand down to the primer do I reprime w etch primer?
John Drach yeah that would be a good idea.
do the badges too
Would you do the badges the same way as the plastic chrome stuff
home sick yes that's right.
What brand is the bed cover and roll bar?
Nice job!
I can never get tape to stick to tyres....
That's great, you're a champion! Do you mind if I steal that clip for use in other things when appropriate? :) I'll link your account if I ever do put it in something else.
Great Job
Stuff that needs a decent set of tyres on it....go a plus size in AT and never look back...
I watched through both videos wanting to see how you did the window trim only to get to the end and see you not paint them :(
You need to build a lazy Susan turntable for painting wheels
A lot of work but looks 1000x better
Trabalho sensacional sempre! 👍
Does that rear parking sensor still work? I saw you didn't mask it up?
SouthernCustoms sure does. Many parking sensors are painted from factory.
Great transformation. Love the look now!
The aerosol clear you used on the handles, was it 1k?
Tommy McSorley it was 2k
@@customspraymods Cheers Dave, didn't see the activator on the arse of the can
Awesome vid man but I got to warn you the Diesel Navaras have a Renault engine that is an absolute lemon and it might pay to respray the chassis.
SB
Ohh reeeally? You sound like my neighbors noisy dog 🐕! I’m just trying to warn a friend about my fathers experience he’s on his third engine and Nissan won’t come to the party but here I thought everyone knew about the Navaras issues. So go back to your house under the bridge TROLL!
I love that truck and I’m not a truck guy
What about your button?
That music reminds me of Twisted Metal 2
Is that a DevilBiss spray gun?
Paul Ioan yes
@@customspraymods i recognised it as soon as i saw it, we have 3 of them where i work😂
Looks good, but change those stock wheels to 20’s
First step remove wheels " argh fuck it ,im goin for a beer"
