As a very fit 70 year old....with plenty of sun damage to my skin (actually, much reduced using red light and retinol therapy...and some judicious nitrogen freezing by my dermatologist)....I will say that this notion of, 'the sun is good for you' is, well, highly problematic. Notice here that both the presenters have dark skin. For those with light skin, sun exposure can be both aging and deadly. I grew up in a time when there were few warnings about the dangers of sun exposure....and I have seen both personally and in those around me how really dangerous it is. Much of the time the effects don't even show up until you're over 60 ...and then watch out; watch as the age marks and keratoses simply show up overnight...even wilthout sun exposure. I take tons of Vit D (and K2)....by mouth.

Maybe there is a link to putting all these chemicals on your skin, and then baking it in really well in the sun, and skin cancer. This is something I'll never get convinced what side is right. Lots of long lived people that I saw, who also have great skin are blatant about the use of a good sunscreen.
People who don't care and spent their lives on the sun look way older the majority of the time.
The right answer is probably on the middle. Take a little sunbath here and there for vitamin D, and protect yourself on the majority of the rest of the time.

the most accurate answer will come from our natural habitat and behavior regardless of scientific hypothesis. mimic those behaviors and you will be on the right track. a problem may come from our lack of exposure to sunlight for most of our lives and the way we cover ourselves on a daily basis (like a flower that only a part of it's leafs are exposed to direct sunlight), maybe the body cannot adapt like we think it can because of years of abuse.

I agree that you will certainly find plenty of derm docs saying its the sun and use sunscreen, or even a more expensive prescription option. If recent years have told us anything it's that the medical complex cannot really be trusted and that money is what really drives it all. There is no money in you being healthy so you never hear about the benefits of D and K. There is no money in you being healthy so they push using sunscreens and terrifying people to stay out of the sun - "the sun is evil!" they will say. Sure some doctors and nurses are in it for the right reasons, but most are in it for the almighty dollar - the hospitals, big pharma, etc... I have multiple close relatives/friends that are doctors/nurses and can tell story after story confirming this. Just look at the BS studies that the medical complex has pushed that are totally unsupported - "Sodium causes heart disease, you need a low salt diet" complete lie! "Fat is horrible for you, you need to be on a low, or no, fat diet" total lie! It's criminal how many lies they've told.

While I agree we need some sun exposure for Vitamin D the number of patients I’ve seen with skin cancer who are of the age when no one was using sunscreen can’t be dismissed. These are people who were in the sun regularly and burned. Maybe I could take this conversation more seriously if a dermatologist was actually providing the information.

I only use sunscreen if I am jet skiing or out on a boat for a long time. If not, you get roasted alive. Otherwise I let the sun get to my skin. When I was in Croatia recently, I never used sunscreen and was pleasantly coloured after my holiday. I slept like a baby out there at night. The sun sure does aid sleep too

Can't completely agree with this. I don't and haven't used sun tan lotion on my body since I was a kid and had no choice.
However, I have Actinic keratosis on my head and if I don't use sun tan lotion it gets worse. So, no, I can't agree with this entirely....

Its either because you were in the sun way too much like 6+ hours everyday in a hot sun or because you just eat a inflammitory diet high in seed oils high in omega 6 and not enough healthy fats and cholesterol and micronutrients in general so you can't repair the damage of the sun. Cholesterol is used to produce vitamin D3 from the sunlight that reaches your skin. You need enough magnesium to activate d3. You need vitamin k2 to prevent hypercalcemia. Also stop blaming the sun , skin inflammation also comes from not eating enough retinol vitamin A, omega 3 DHA & EPA which you are not gonna get at all if you eat a plantbased diet or low quality meats contain too much omega 6 and too little amounts omega 3 DHA & EPA . Eat pasture raised eggs, wild caught fish, organs/meat from pasture raised healthy animals and grass fed dairy if you can tolerate it. If you eat these these things you no longer get sunburned, atleast i do because i did get terrible sunburns as a kid from just 2 hours of sun now i don't i can be out in the sun for 5 hours 100 degrees without sunscreen and not get sunburned. The only bad thing about the sun is sunburns, so when you notice you get a sunburn either get out the sun and let healthy food heal the damage or cover up the burned spot. Sunburns cause inflammation.
