This is great! I'm getting back into tennis after a 10 year layoff, so my strokes still look pretty but I'm constantly getting beaten THAT GUY. Really helpful to have a little checklist of things to work on.

This is a fantastic video. In addition to the contact point height, thinking about striking the ball at the right distance from the body (in front as well as to the side) has been the biggest improvement for my strokes.

I was watching Serena and Venus' coach and he said u push the ball. Don't let the ball gain on u and push u, that's when you won't be in control. So don't be late or else the ball will control you. Prepare early and time the ball ( which u will get after thousands of hrs of practice) and hit it in front of your side

I do agree that the 4 fundamentals are the core of the game but, I have to point out that everyone that wants to be more competitive in recreational tennis must have the proper technique and that is not a small thing. I have been playing tennis for 2 month and watched more than 50 videos on RUclips from all the coaches out there. Most of them helped me but, some of the videos I saw in this channel last weekend was a game change. Example: I am from Brazil and soccer is in our nature. I am above average soccer player, in soccer good players just look at ball before touch it with the foot. Good players never look at the ball after controlling it, one have to scam the field in search of a team mate that is moving to a good position. That is exactly the opposite of tennis. The video you posted about the two modes of vision was so clear to me. I have seen no coach taking about that. The other game change video was the video about service and the drills you proposed. I went to my backyard to practice and in the second try I broke the strings. I was never able to get good power on my serve. The open stand onehanded backhand I never though was possible and I made like 20 wonderful shots on the all. The 10 videos I saw in this channel improved my technique to another level. One video that I can not skip is the one about the spread of the finger. It never made sense to me until Steve said that with the finger spread one give more mobility to the wrist. So , the knowledge this man gives is unique, I used the previous words very smart and a wizard for describe him. The best teacher/coaches always has a unique way to pass the message and this man does it superbly. Anyway, all the above to say that , besides the fundamentals you must work on the proper techniques for every stroke or you get no were with tennis. It is the most difficult game to play, is physical, ,technical to a fault and mental, and that is why I am loving it. Thanks Steve , you are the great coach I have found so far. Please bear with my writing if something has the wrong grammar or semantics, English is not my first language.

Thank you so much for the kind words and the time you have taken.
You're correct, the 4 fundamentals are the beginning, but they do not and never will replace technique.
I try hard to teach the parts of the game that need teaching and leave the parts that are natural alone.
      I'll give you an example.
Children learn to walk, and then they learn to talk
Imagine a world where children learn to talk and then they learn to walk.
There would be experts teaching you hire to teach your child to walk. There would be books on the subject.
There would be TV programs on the subject.
      But.
Because we cannot talk to them, they all learn to walk at about the same time, in about the same way, with about the same success.
I think many of the details I see in tennis coaching simply interferes with what is natural.
If we focus on the parts that do not come naturally and leave the aspects that do come naturally, then we have a path for success and a chance to reach our true potential.
Thanks for the support and great contribution

You write very well for a non English speaker. One tip, don't write everything in one paragraph. Separate your text into easily readable paragraphs, just like the coach has replied to you.

One of the things I’d suggest is that you keep up your soccer conditioning. Don’t stop your soccer conditioning training and you will always have a important advantage over the great majority of the tennis players you compete against even if you make it to the higher levels of the game. No matter how good your strokes get if you get fatigued you won’t be able to execute them well during a match. You will see this happen to your opponents on a regular basis and wonder why it happens. A majority of tennis players have never played a “real sport” and don’t know what it means to be in shape or they no longer want to put in the work needed to play a “real sport” so now play tennis instead. Don’t believe me? Every time you meet a tennis player casually ask them how much off court running they do. After giving you a puzzled look they’ll say something like “I play tennis so I don’t have to run.” These same people will be breathing heavily half way through the match. Anyone who knows anything about getting in shape knows that a tennis court is to small a area and the game has to many stops in action to allow any real cardio training to take place. Take advantage of the conditioning your soccer background has given you it will be a big weapon for you now and in the future.

Tennis is also a real sport by the way. I understand, one needs to build endurance and explosiveness. There are many ways to achieve that, not just "soccer"

Roberto C F Ag- Congratulations on your discovery of the great game of tennis. Soccer perhaps like basketball both develop body movement skills and control in addition to a level of endurance required to play competitive tennis. Rapid starts, stops, balance, agility, quick decision making and sprinting are all skills soccer likely has developed. As a beginner, you probably have few bad technical habits to correct. Videos that seem logical to you along with lots of court time practice/experimentation alone then partners will lead to rapid progress. I agree that One Minute Tennis Coach channel offers unique and helpful concepts and techniques presented simply and clearly. 🍀🎾

Very good advise coach. Yes, we often complicate things ourselves because most of us weekend warriors are trying to emulate what the pros do and don't take proper lessons.

AS you said these fundamentals are game changer and that's the thing that bring every player to a good coach like you . I really want to know how I can improve every single part of these four fundamentals.
I need more details so please make some videos about them and give the exersice plan related to every each of them . Thank you in advance Mr.coach

Good idea, the 4 fundamentals of tennis. But for me, there is only one fundamental, as much as possible, always strike the ball in the comfort zone between hip and shoulder. The other three, watch the ball, move to the ball, and swing back before ball bounce, are the necessary tools to meet the ball in the hip-shoulder comfort zone.

It's a shame you never got the original of this video running, it was better than this one, I'm afraid. I understand wanting to pay homage to Hitchcock and all, with the whole single-shot approach of Rope, but these are instructional videos, Steve. You'll have to resist your artistic, vocational urges and cut back on your side projects, such as your tennis-themed, Lady Gaga-esque punk rock band (who smash _rackets_ onstage while ball machines fire feral cats into the mosh pit - as well as your one man, clothing-optional stage production of Hair.
I mean I get it, you want to be remembered (no problem there, one critic referred to the latter as: "Hair...raising!"), but you need to pick up the mantle (Mickey) and wear it proudly. You are the greatest online tennis coach of all time. (Dammit) The GOAT.

Is is possible that someone can be missing ALL FOUR OF THE FUNDAMENTALS?! I'm one of those guys who swings his racket in the living room ALL DAY LONG, I have BEAUTIFUL shadow strokes, textbook, would make Roger Federer cry - and possibly suck his thumb. But put me on a tennis court and I become a SYMPHONY OF ERRORS. Tragic opera. (Is there any other kind?)
I'm always late and end up swatting at the ball; I look like a beekeeper who's forgotten his beekeeper's suit. I don't have a consistent contact point/strike zone; I look like a baseball batter who SWINGS AT EVERY PITCH. I don't move well, I look like a man playing tennis in TWO FEET OF MUD. But worst of all, I don't watch the ball; my "fog zone" starts at ABOUT THE NET. My sweetspot AIN'T SO SWEET. I frame more often than an ART GALLERY. I... I... I...
I'm finished. That was fun, I feel better. Thank you.
