So this was nothing I haven’t heard before BUT probably the most important things I NEED to hear every time I play a match. Thanks Coach Simon. Brilliant.
I cannot agree more. These are really good rules. I am very glad to hear and looking forward to following them when I play. Thank you very much Coach Simon!
As a coach I am a big fan of consistency. Placement is more important than pace. A medium pace ball that lands consistently two feet from the baseline and pushes your opponent towards the side line constantly during a rally will draw more errors or short returns. Every shot you hit should have a placement, purpose and variety of spin, net clearance and pace.
I was struggling lately and the rule number one changed that! I started tracking the ball and am playing better and having a lot more fun! Now I have a hope of improving more! Thank you so much, Coach Simon! You saved my tennis life!
More great coaching thanks SImon. I've added these to my own personal training plan. If I analyze my practices & matches, I do all of the 5 rules 'casually' but I never make a point of actually concentrating on them. All the coaching in the world isn't going to make me a better player if I don't have a plan to build it into my game so that's what I'm going to do later today. Too bad RUclips doesn't allow - 1 Thumbs-up for ordinary content; 2 Thumbs-up for good content; 3 Thumbs up for great content. This would get 3 T-u's from me.
Greatest obstacle on the court is not the net or weather conditions or the opponent but in actuality your own mind. So much of the game is mental whether you are far behind in a match or close to victory.
I need to work on golden rule # 1 and golden rule # 2 the most. Most videos or coaches say to do certain things, but many times do not explain the reason. This is a great explanation of why these are the golden rules!
I especially like the intro to this video... and the swing patter of the forehand finish. (over the left shoulder ) which makes the ball elevate to clear the net and come down fast. Great forehand to use when opponent attacks the net. Forces the player to get low or you find angle passing shot
I need to drill these 5 things into my head so that I can learn faster. I'm 32 and it's been about 2 months since I've started playing tennis. I go to the gym alongside tennis so there are some days that I think my tennis game suffers but I am trying to build muscle as I am a tall and slim guy.
Brilliant video. Thx! I have realized that during the first set of the game I'm more or less able to remember some of these rules, some technic tips, etc. But later on, I'm "mentally" too tired to still be focused on all these elements. It is the biggest challenge for me to be "mentally" fresh during the whole game ;-)
Excellent video as always Simon! I always appreciate your free, high-quality tips. You're like the tennis coach I can never afford. Question: When is the ideal time to strike the ball? Should I take the initiative to hit it just before it gets to me, or should I wait the extra half-second or so for it to approach me and let it come into my racquet?
In terms of timing, if you move up to make contact earlier, you’re taking away time from your opponent but also yourself. On good days, I’d prefer players move up, but on bad days, you can always give yourself a bit more time to adjust. All the best Simon
A lot of pros went through a stage of writing small tips and placing them on the inner throat of their rackets. Small cues that reminded them of something important. Not a bad idea
@@bigchainring1977 Actually, I did well.
