    Great video. I enjoy the fact that you don't just complain the whole time about CS2, but also see the opportunity this game has. My pc is quite old and I sometimes try to run CS1, with the few mods it can handle, and sometimes I think we forget how that game started and how much it evolved. I enjoy all your series. And besides, with my two little children I understand perfectly well your timings ;-). Only even hearing you're searching for a balance means that you're doing awesome!

      Thanks man! I hope it doesn’t come off as too negative because I truly love the game, I just wish it was more polished. Then I see game mechanics and graphics of games like Prehistoric Kingdom and Planet Zoo and just feel sad it’s not more like that. Imagine csl2 with custom buildings and mods. I think it’ll be a million times better.

    With the state of CS2 and how that's been going, CS1 is still a VERY relevant game and I even enjoy building on CS1 over building on CS2.
    Not too long ago, I ran into someone in another comment section somewhere else ranting and raving about how "ALL the Modders stopped supporting CS1" and that couldn't be further from the truth even a year or so after CS2's launch there's still solid mod support for CS1 and many people have jumped back to that game over CS2.

    The thing that drove me to your channel in the first place-and the reason I keep watching your videos after all these years-was your detailed builds. I fell in love so much with Marble Mountain that I even ended up writing some worldbuilding articles for the wiki (is that even a thing anymore?).
    It's not just about watching you play Cities: Skylines, because there are many other RUclipsrs who play CS. The reason I keep coming back-and I feel like many other people do too-is because of your particular creativity when it comes to building cities, and stories, and entire worlds.
    That's why it was such a pleasure to return to Oceania last week. Hearing you eager to return to Sunset City as well, and continue bringing to life all those corners that are still unexplored, I just find it exhilarating.
    It goes without saying that your personal life always comes first... and second... and third. It's good to know that you're taking your time to be well yourself, and to spend some quality time with your family. That's essential.
    And it's also good to know that we'll have more CS1 in the future, at least until CS2 becomes the game we all imagine, and that allows you to unleash your creativity again at full power.
    Keep them coming! Cities: Skylines, SimCity 4, all of them. Greetings from Patagonia!

    The road tools look great at a first glance, comparing vanilla cs1 vs cs2. Once you factor in mods like move it, network multitool, node controller, and such, you realise you have WAY more control and fine tuning in CS1.

    • @iris4547
      @iris4547 3 месяца назад +1

      the road tools in cs2 do save a lot of time though. ive spent hours in cs1 just modifying a few intersections to make them wider and line marking them etc, cs2 gets you 90% of the way there in a single click, which is fantastic. unfortunately it is 1 of the only good aspects of the game compared to the far superior cs1.

    • @Saurion1
      @Saurion1 3 месяца назад +4

      @@iris4547 not having the ability to manipulate individual nodes like what you can do with Move It in CS1 makes the CS2 road tools completely useless to me. The road markings are quite decent, I'll admit to that.

    • @iris4547
      @iris4547 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Saurion1 yeah 100%, given the game a try twice now and never get far before giving up. my way of building in cs1 was just to lay the roads out without care for elevation and go through after with move it and network multi tool to set correct heights and slopes. this is simply impossible in cs2 having to modify terrain height first instead and is unplayable.

    There's a lot in this video that I could respond to. But there's one I think above all else sums it up and I am shocked that I haven't heard until now:
    You asked "How many more expansions could they have done for CS1?"
    Harbors
    Military bases
    Sci-fi assets
    Fantasy assets
    More regional packs - South America? Australia?
    They could have actually made a sequel to CS1 instead of the totally new game that is CS2.
    I'm not a programmer, but I feel they should have stuck with the core of CS1 but improved it for newer hardware.
    Frankly, I went back to CS1 after barely a month, and I upgraded my computer to play CS2! I spent over 300 dollars upgrading my PC and I still find that CS1 is just a more fun experience.
    I am just not impressed with CS2. It's just not there yet.

    I always wanted to be able to build cities like you guys make, but with all the DLC's, mods, props and workshop content I drowned in the options and by that never really learned the basics. So one big advantage of playing CS2 for me is that the limited content forces me to be creative with the stuff I have available. And that works really well for me, my builds are really improving. But I couldn't agree more with two dollars twenty here, this game has some great aspects, but is also an unfinished product and can be really frustrating at times. But I keep on restarting this game after each crash, it's highly addictive.

    Your video about life changes and making RUclips content is something I really identify with and really got my attention. Life and family is more important over the things we love if the things we love become more important than life and family. My PC’s currently gone down and I’ve not been able to make RUclips content and in a way it’s given me a new found freedom. You realize just how much you miss out on when trapped in a content world. That being said I love Cities skylines and will always play it. On CS2 I never included it on my channel. I just didn’t think the game was ready for me and I’m not ready for it in its current state. Right now CS1 is the best way to play for the creators of beautiful cites to wow the audience and CS2 is definitely suited for real live let’s plays. I think it will be fun to look back on those difficult times that CS2 gives us in years to come when it’s finally fun to play. Anyways the main reason for my long winded comment was I’d just watched the Adam Sandler movie “Click” worth a watch and the msg fits in with what you were saying and what I’m experiencing. So really great interesting video. Keep up the great work, keep up the CS1 content and importantly keep up with the family and life!

    Hey man long time viewer! First of all, life really bites you in the ass lol. I haven't touched my Cities projects in probably 3 or 4 months now because of my schedule. Oh and congrats on the second kid! First time I'm hearing of it lol
    Re: CS2. I think the lack of custom assets is really shooting the game in the foot. Like, the game *looks* really nice. But my problem with a lot of CS2 projects is that they all look roughly the same to me. And frankly, and this is a personal thing for me, I've never played just vanilla city builders. I love using custom mods and assets to make a project truly feel like mine.
    Re: SimCity 4. Are we the same person? lol. I've also been playing more SimCity 4 for the first time in probably a decade and I agree, the game just feels just so much more alive than CS1 or CS2. It's that old school Maxis magic and charm!
    Re: Future project stuff. Dude I miss Sunset City, and I think what I miss about it is the fact that you have so much fun with all the little stories and quirks of the project!
    To wrap up I just wanted to say good luck! And most importantly I think, I know this is a part time job for you and there's a lot of expectations that come along with that (you touched on those a little bit in this video), but I think it's good to remember that we're all here to have a good time. Enjoy yourself, and good projects will flow from that :)

    I am someone who still plays the sims 3, the sims 2 and simcity 4 (even tho it is almost as old as me). I don’t understand why people think they need to stop playing older games every time a new one comes out. I know being a adult i don’t have time to play all the games that I want, but throughout the year, even if it’s sparse, I’ll play a little bit of everything.

    Bugs and issues aside, what happened to the content creator packs!? I feel that if they released it, CS2 players would havent gone down because there some news things to play with. Oh well..
    As alwaya looking forward to wonderful content! Cheers!

    I'm a new(ish) subscriber. Subbed after the CSL: 2 trailer. Glad you're looking after your health and spending time with the family.
    I will say though, you are correct that people are losing interest with the game. I got it on GamePass launch day, played it a little and it kept crashing. Stopped playing as I had no interest in returning to the game ….. until the other day where I saw the logo to my desktop shortcut, opened up GamePass annnd just uninstalled it from my PC. Yeah, still have no interest in returning unfortunately.

    Strictoaster's Nydal city was the first city build I'd watched on youtube, and was the first time I'd heard or known about mods and assets. I still think about that city when I watch all the gamers now making their cities so flat.

    I watch cities skylines videos entirely because I enjoy watching modded gameplay, and that means I overwhelmingly prefer cities 1. In fact I never watch any cities 2 content. I'm checking this video pretty much exclusively to find out if you're gonna be getting back to cities 1 anytime soon.

    Your path through CS1 and CS2 sounds so much like mine! The vanilla games are great -- for awhile. What comes next is, imho, such a personal decision that the devs could never fulfill it. It takes modders. One of the first assets I got was Bad Side of Town and the 1u wide shotgun homes, which scratched *my* itch to build familiar neighborhoods. I doubt anyone else did that, and my selection of mods and assets is unlikely to look like others'. At present, CS2 isn't challenging enough to please the gamers, nor does it have the variety or quantity of assets to please the sandboxers. It's a great game!...for awhile...and then...
    Thanks for your viewpoint. I've watched you in the past, but hadn't yet been a supporter.

    imo they really need to push the release of official mod support. I know we already use thunderstore, but having functioning assets will release so much of its potential. F.e. I was so disappointed, when I realized the train station couldnt be raised off the ground. In CS1 I would just find the right mod/asset and create my dream train station. In CS2 I just quit.

      No can do mate, it's gonna be part of Paradox's next $20 DLC that fixes nothing 😂😂
      Saying this as a CS1 player who noticed the DLCs were just rebadged mods around Airports. Also as someone who plays HoI4 with their current "DLC" issue. I'm on to Paradox's income "strategy" and I won't be a part of it going forward, I'll continue playing CS1 and not care about 2 at all. 😂

      1. Not yet. Potentially in the future, but no guarantees.
      2. Yes, but not officially, so every update runs the risk of breaking your modded cities.

    I don't think it's a bad thing that mods make the game. If you've played a lot of games over the years, you know that modding has always been a major feature for games. The problem that i see with Cities 2 is that the devs didn't have the game done enough to allow mods from release. They should have also given us more assets and they should have integrated the most popular mods from the first game into the new one. Even if means contacting mod devs to help out.

    They should add organised crime and homelessness in poorly educated and high crime areas. Would be cool to see different areas of the city being controlled by different gangs and then trying to find ways to solve the problems. Or atleast a dlc or mod for that, maybe it would make the game more challenging.

    love ya work, commenting for engagment, cs2 will probably come good eventually, it definitely looks better, just dumb little things like stop signs going on all corners makes the game rather annoying compared to how 1 was perfected with mods over time.
