    I met a macros guy who has perfect geese executions and he never miss one combo or raging storm... HOWEVER, he didn't know how to break throws, block lows or even punish well. So he never won a single round!.
    I still appreciate mix-box and any controller make this game easier..... But knowledge is very important in TK7.

      wanted to make this reply myself. just tonight i fought a 600+ win heihachi.... never missed a single electric, could do perfect back dashes, made me wonder if he was using macros. still gave him a good fight with my 30 win jack i've been playing for handful of nights. i'd wager that technical input is like 25% of the skill in tekken at best

    Finger fatigue is a big issue for me when i first bought tekken 7 and had nothing but a keyboard to play with. Back dashing in general puts quite a strain on my fingers and wrist. P1 wave dashing is fine but P2 is a whole other thing to learn. Once i picked up a stick, yeah it took long to get used to, but it ended up feeling more natural to use

    The reason why your backdash technique works is because the MixBox is equipped with a protection to avoid pressing left+right or up+down at the same time, because some games (esp the 2D ones) can take advantage of it. As such, pressing right while holding left = neutral. As simple as that 😁

      Peter Fitzsimmons honestly iwr2 isn't that hard in the first place. I'd say drag is still a pretty dumb char without it. And even with simplified inputs, TJU will always be hard, because it's still frame perfect. T,B+4 is still hard, but the input is still easy. The input is not what makes taunt moves hard, it's timing

      i play on keyboard and i can tell u that it is that easy seriously xD ,
      HOWEVER it isn't the real kbd u would see from pro's(even tho the inputs are the same) so basically even we have to use the normal way of learning kbd if we wanna play on a competitive level.
      note: reason why i'm saying that it isn't the real kbd is simple. u can't do it fast enough for it too look like a natural kbd where the character doesn't even go down. even TMM needs to use both hands for it to come out + it's no where near his usual kbd's

      It clearly cuts the learning curve on some inputs, and makes others just
      straight up easier. But taken overall, and once you're good, it's probably
      only incrementally better than a stick at best. I'm completely speculating, but I have to think that if it was all huge advantages and zero disadvantage in any area, you'd see wider adoption at tournaments. None of the big name pros use one as far as I'm aware, and you'd think at least one would make the switch. Cutting the learning curve without giving some broken unfair advantage is only a good thing imo

      As someone who had never even held an arcade stick before I bought one earlier this year and having played exclusively on the PC since late 90's, keyboard feels so much more natural for me than the pad or the stick. Seriously thinking of getting one of these.

    • @AirLancer
      @AirLancer 6 лет назад +3

      Well most of the top players cut their teeth playing at arcades, and many in Japan and Korea still do play at the arcade where obviously you can't use a device like this.
      As time goes on, it's more likely that we'll see more people using a device like this or the Hitbox, though it'll still be a minority simply due to the initial cost of such a device.

    • @FalbereChan
      @FalbereChan 6 лет назад +1

      the same advantages can be found on a keyboard, which is an older input device than a joystick.
      don't fall for this "mixbox" scam! it is basically a very expensive keyboard wrapped up in the packaging of a stick, and you can't actually use it to type words!

    • @azzans
      @azzans 6 лет назад

      Top players are korean and japanese, and korean and japanese players can't play on keyboard because they normally play in arcades. If you go onto a korean player's stream or a japanese player's stream on twitch and ask them if online tekken is good they will tell you no and to go to an arcade. Hence most Koreans and Japanese only really know how to play on stick since you can't plug your controller into the cabinet, they are literally forced to play stick.

  • @C0rnwallace
    @C0rnwallace 6 лет назад +27

    What he was showing you with the backdash is slightly misleading. Using two hands to backdash is great. It's fast, easy. But using two hands means you don't actually have a hand free to react with a whiff punish (which is the main reason for backdashing in the first place). I've seen heaps of players that use the 2hand method and have great execution, but they have no ability to react to whiffs and actually play Tekken outside of practise mode.
    You can do the same thing with one hand so you keep your other hand free to whiff punish, but using 1hand method on 2p is tiring and hard as it uses your ring finger a lot.
    Just be aware the reality of this controller in game won't be the same as what he's showing you, which is what I was hoping he'd explain is a disadvantage.

    • @BortaMaga
      @BortaMaga 6 лет назад +1

      To be fair, he doesn't have the time to learn backdashing with one hand. While I agree with you, I think the point that he's making is that learning how to backdash is easier on mixbox than stick.

    • @C0rnwallace
      @C0rnwallace 6 лет назад

      Borta Maga yeah makes sense. Though backdashing on 1p is just alternating your ring and index finger - not too hard. I just don't want to see TMM start selling out and misleading his fans.

    For those of you who really think hitbox/mixbox/keyboard is not easier I will give you my perspective as I have both and believe that hitbox/mixbox/keyboard is significantly easier, and have used all three for about 2 months.
    The true benefit of these controllers lies in the fact that directional and movement inputs become dramatically consistent, you obviously still need to learn the timing of things. For example doing 6 electrics on Kazuya is more of a timing thing and is something that comes with understanding timing than having good inputs. Your combos will become much more consistent though once you understand timing, as I will never drop a combo on either controller and I can do max damage combos consistently because of the controllers.
    Now movement, again as I have said, movement inputs become easier which is the true benefit of these controllers. Movement becomes so insane, there is an Aris video where he compares Pad to Stick and says the true advantage of pad is how easy the movement is, well the advantage to a mixbox/hitbox/keyboard is that movement is even easier than pad. This is because you aren't trying to move with only your thumb but instead can use your fingers. My backdash is insanely fast I can move at the speed of light with my backdash but on stick my backdash is slightly above average. Don't forget that sidestepping also becomes easier because instead of slamming a stick up or down really fast, or having your thumb travel to up or down really fast, instead you just have to tap a button and if you use a hitbox you have two dedicated fingers for up and down buttons (Thumb and middle finger) Wavedashing as well is extremely easy as you can just do f qcf repeatedly to do so. So for those of you who really want a controller that is just very easy to use then I believe buying hitbox or mixbox is good, or just having a decent keyboard is great as well.
    Personally I think Hitbox is the best controller of these three as you have 4 fingers for each directions rather than 3 which is simply better ergonomics.

      I'm switching from pad with mapped shoulder buttons to a custom hitbox. I'm thinking about having 4 mapped on the 3rd button on the top row. Do you have expierence with that? So you have for tekken every input at one fingertip

    • @azzans
      @azzans 6 лет назад

      @@Liproqq
      you can do that but its really easy to hit two buttons at the same time especially with a hitbox because of ergonomics. Less buttons is more efficient in the long term because you assign one button per fingertip.

    The main things I'd want to know about mixbox:
    - How it compares to trying to do inputs on an actual keyboard
    - How it compares to using a hitbox (it's not clear to me why there'd be an advantage to this over the hitbox tbh)
    - Why he hasn't really used it in ranked (maybe just because he's more accustomed to stick inputs but it should still be addressed)

    • @lordfifth4520
      @lordfifth4520 6 лет назад +1

      -It should be quite similar to do inputs on keyboard if you have mechanical keyboard except it has bigger buttons for attack buttons so it should be more comfortable. It has Red Cherry MX Mechanical Switches and Sanwa buttons according to website.
      -I think it is probably easier to pickup and start compared to Hitbox because pretty much everyone used to have WASD type of layout and direction placement make sense.But hitbox allows you to use 4 fingers for directions so it might be better in longer run.
      -Mixbox Arcade sends free Mixbox to him and other people who are famous in fighting game communities and asks them to do review.They might be also paying though idk if they pay for it.So he wouldnt do bad review about it.Also i believe he would play worse if he used Mixbox for few months at least.Combos and hard stuff might be easier to perform on Mixbox but its not easy to switch console.I use pad and i had mechanical keyboard,so i tried using it back then.I could backdash and do some moves better in "practice mode" But i cant play my best in actual match,so i gave up playing on keyboard.

    I just love the feel of an Arcade Stick. I wouldn't switch. For me, that's the controller the game was designed for. I think, if the fighting scene grows further and EVO gets bigger, we have to have a conversation about which controllers are legal and which are not. I saw Pros playing on a DS4 and using the analog stick as a additional buffer for certain techniques. I do think skill ultimately out ways these advantages. But still. We gotta have a level playing field.

      @@Sutobuto I'd agree in Tekken. But certain other fighting games have mechanics that can be easily exploited with a mixbox. I believe there is one in Street Fighter where, after a certain move, the ability to press two opposite directions at the same time with a mixbox/Dualshock can allow you to instantly block an otherwise unsafe move. That's where I think the controller you use should be restricted to the ones the game was designed for.

    I bought one of these, the PCB is cable tied to a piece of plast in which a single hole is drilled through and a nut and bolt holding it down
    This was snapped. Not a delivery error, as the case (the best aspect of the device) is metal. Though the case was terribly protecxted with loose torn pieces of polystyrene wedged in and around the box.
    The left arrow key was broken as well, this required changing.
    Description on the product is vague to mislead you into believing it's full sanwa, that only the face buttons were sanwa (I am still unsure if this is the case, as they're taller than any other sanwa I have used before)
    As per their terms and conditions I can get a full refund barring the £30 tax I paid, and the return shipping of £40 and any other taxes returning to China (even though it's all their fault)
    As a collector I STRONGLY advise against this, the unit is way too expensive for what it is at $250 for a fixer upper.
    Do not fall for the hype. Learn from my mistake.

    If you ask me, the WASD layout should be the standard for traditional fighting games. I don't see the point of a 360 degree stick in games where there isn't 360 degree analog control; having clearly defined directional controls is far more intuitive and just makes sense.
    Also it's curious that Geese' half circle inputs seem to work when you do it like that, because you're not hitting the diagonals at all. This doesn't work for giant swing/tijuana or Gigas overkill and probably any other half circle throw. You have to the the diagonals as well which makes it significantly easier to mess up. For Giant Swing on 1p with WASD you have to do: D, A, A+S, S, S+D, D. It's very easy to miss a diagonal when doing so. I can do it more consistently on stick than I can on keyboard and I rarely use my stick.

      Daedric Well, I tried my keyboard after this video and I had no problem doing what you said. You just have to transition between each key, don't release A until you press the S and then don't release the S until you press the D.

    • @DaedricNZ
      @DaedricNZ 6 лет назад

      Yeah I don't necessarily think it's super hard or anything. I Just think TMM was misrepresenting it; it's not as easy as he was making it look in this video. Every HCF or HCB I tried did not work the way he did it, *except* with Geese who seems to have different input parameters. He shouldn't be advertising it in the way he did because it's misleading.

    Note that anything requiring a down to up input generally is a pain in the ass to do with the arrow key layout since you have to move a finger off something else to hit it. Not the end of the world for most games/characters, but while 180s are ez mode 360s are hard.

    I grew with consoles with Tekken but later moved to PC so when fighting games started coming out on PC I was super hyped and since I didn't have a controller, I had to rely on the keyboard. It's such a big advantage with he only problem being ghosting. If you had a cheap keyboard you had to set up your controls just right so that you aren't hitting keys that don't register at the same time. SFV on PC is a special kind of garbage if you have a cheap keyboard or even your default laptop keyboard. Game requires you to press 3 buttons at the same time, you can't hold back and throw because that you meant you had to press 3 buttons and since SFV does this stupid thing where you are given the same number of buttons as a controller you can't map a throw button without sacrificng a 3P or 3K button, which is also essential for most characters. The mixbox may be a good alternative to anti ghosting keyboards. Especially if you feel the keys are too small. I personally like using space for up or to jump. So I don't see a point in using the mixbox over a keyboard but I still think these types of input devices should still be allowed. If it's on PC you have to accept the default form of input just like we did when fighting games went from arcade to consoles.
    The only thing I'm not a fan of is making left + right or up + down neutral. SOCD input. In Street Fighter there are so many alternate forms of input thanks to that. Games already have built in logic so you don't get a back and forward input at the same time to account for keyboards. I believe in this game the last direction you pressed takes priority. But the mixbox makes it neutral so, that is a tournament ban for me. It's not standard keyboard stuff and most games don't default to neutral if you press back and forward at the same time on the keyboard. If the game did default to neutral I would allow it. It's only an advantage if it provides benefits and not default form of input which the whole socd thing kinda is.

      shoryuken.com/2018/08/18/mixbox-showcases-street-fighter-v-character-combos-and-discusses-their-new-socd-switch/ There is a new feature that enable to choose the mode SOCD. the SOCD switch has multiple settings, allowing two keyboard inputs to be read as neutral, upwards, or forwards. “When you press left, and then press right, the forward input will become neutral,” a representative explained. “When you press down and press up, the forward input will become up. Another option is, when you press left and then press right, the forward input it will become right. When you press down and press up, forward will become up, as well.”
      the switch is tournament legal, as consulted by staff of the Evolution Championship Series.

    "don't ask me why..." They made it so that R+L becomes neutral input, so if you hold R and press L for you get R, N, R that is a backdash. It's no rocket science. In some games you can block in both directions with a R+L input, so it had to be removed, but I guess one can buy this thing and cheat it.

    So based on this video, I think I am going to start using keyboard, maybe the backdash setting where it goes to neutral automatically maybe a setting within the box itself but I feel like the right coder could make a program if that would be the case to implement that to keyboard.
    With that all being said, I am going to try keyboard out now, but the Mixbox looks amazing this was a successful advertisement

    If this design is appealing to you, then just go with the Hitbox instead, unless I'm missing something
    I love the idea of using keycaps so keyboard warriors can easily transition to consoles, but having the up button on top of the down button creates slow, awkward and uncomfortable inputs
    I think most people playing seriously on a keyboard probably remap their up button to the more ergonomic space bar so they don't have to maneuver their hand or fingers at all
    If this was re-released with a space bar at the bottom of the face instead of the up arrow, then I think it would become immediately more viable

      Yes, most if not all controllers are allowed as long as they lack macros. In case you don't know what they are, macros are essentially an input that you can map onto a button. For example, mapping a specific button to do electrics and whatnot. That isn't allowed. Things like this and even a hitbox(?) Is allowed. However, they are frowned upon, because they make the game "easier".
