- Watch a clip from the 1959 Hammer horror classic The Mummy, which stars Christopher Lee as Kharis, a vengeful Egyptian high priest brought back from the dead by a team of British archaeologists. A template for the modern remake starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, The Mummy also starred Peter Cushing and Yvonne Furneaux, shown here battling the monster after he enters their home. A fully restored Blu-ray version of the film will be released on 14 October
The emotion Christopher Lee was able to give the mummy with just his eyes! Wow, now that's good acting.
Ikr and Omg I didn’t even know it’s him
A true stage actor ...the best.
You can feel the expression when he sees Isabel!
The emotion that Christopher Lee's eyes showed was so powerful that it could strike you straight through the heart.
Also, I don't think that Kharis was a real monster; he tried to resurrect the one he loved because he couldn't live without her, and suffered for it. The fact that he saw her in Peter Cushing's wife during this scene means that he still has a heart. I found it sad that he died while trying to get her back.
This is such a beautiful scene. Christopher Lee is such a great actor that you can see all the tragedy and sadness just through his eyes T.T
He’s a legend
I saw that scene with the harpoon fifty years ago and it was unforgettable. Peter Cushing suggested it. Shocking rather than gory.
Christopher Lee got glass in his face and powder burns and powered through the scene like a beast
@@CuteDwarf11 you saw the documentary that he narrated?
@@jonathanwpressman Yeah, but only after reading the interview he gave about this film!
He was doubled by Eddie Powell for the impact shots from the shotgun but the glass breaking was Chris.
@@thefairhairedboywiththered2951 ah ok thanks for the clarification
@@CuteDwarf11 yeah he crashed into a door that no one took off the hinges. Also carried his female costar a long ways and threw out his back really bad as you mentioned. The documentary is great, Lee tells it so well.
That face she makes is so beautiful when she looks at, Karis. (1:23)
Easily the 2nd Best Mummy movie. Ever made. Why because of both of the greatest Hammer Iconic Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee.
Arguable since 1999 and 1932 were epic.
@@crashpal the 1999 movie was a movie of it's time it was cheesy so yeah this version is easily the SECOND best mummy movie while the number one spot beetween the 1932 and 1999 can be arguable
The emotions in his eyes when he sees Isabel 😔 Ya gotta feel sorry for him
I agree.
The music from strangulation to romantic music is really amazing.
Those gorgeous colors! And I want that wall-paper.
Christopher Lee was a very tall actor.
According to what I had read about Christopher Lee it stated that his height is 6'6" that is the same height as Michael Jordan
He may be but I once stood right behind him in a store in England and we were roughly the same height and I'm 5.10 though this was in the late 80s!
Now that I have this movie on Blu-Ray and a watching it with an HD TV. It help more now on how tall, Christopher Lee is!!! cause his high was really perfect for this movie.
He is. If saw him in LOTR he is taller than Sir Ian McKellen as well as Evan McGregor and Hayden Christianson in Star Wars
What amazing piece of this marvelous versin.
Yvonne Furneaux is so beautiful!!!
The mummy (1959) is still for me the best hammer film's and the best mummy's horror film of all time
why shot him in the chest one shot in his eyes. he would never have caught him nor would the mummy have found his way back home. all jokes aside the best mummy film I ever watched.
The hand gun didn't work, but an elephant gun will? Not too smart. How about fire?
Christopher Lee🙏🙏
By far my favorite scene... you can feel the mummy's love for Ananka. It was just a masterful scene in this movie. BRAVO!
I think I actually winced during this scene. Not because it was scary but because those squibs on the costume looked awfully painful. Apparently he really did get burned by them
It was uncomfortable for both Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney Junior as well. Karloff was lucky they decided not to go with the bandaged wrapped look for imhotep throughout the rest of the movie.
Hammer films were always awesome and this film with Christopher Lee beats any Mummy film . When it bursts that guys window and kills him that you can feel the fear of being trapped as this agile Mummy kills the guy . Lee was also thee best and scariest Dracula of the list of actors that played him .
Dan Reese he doesn't die
Correct. Still, a very memorable scene as the Mummy takes two shotgun blasts at point blank range and a harpoon right through him, and just keeps on going.
It's a great scene, but Peter Cushing's character survives, thanks in no small part to the timely appearance of the lovely lady, who completely diverts the Mummy's attention--and who can blame him for his interest?!
Arguable. When it comes to dracula both bela lugosi and Gary Youngman are there on top and when it comes to mummy both Boris Karloff and Arnold Vosloo are there on top
So that is an official no on the movie date tonight. Sorry about walking thru the door. Tell your Dad oops.
Kay Brady Hello Mr., you can upload the movie this version is true, original broadcast on TV in the year 87 88 90 even though the movie was the 60's, 70's please in Spanish I will appreciate it
This scene left a huge impression on Clive Barker, as described in the Meet Clive Barker interview by Philip Nutman with Stefan Jaworzyn, so in a real way it influenced many of us; our genre, actually. A brilliant scene.
What I'm about to say is nothing against Boris Karloff but this is the mummy movie we should of gotten in the 30's with just the eyes and body language everything can be said without words
Very nice !...really intense scene - scared the pants off me as a kid ! Chris Lee brought major threatening presence to both the Mummy and Dracula. 🦇
And Frankenstein helps that he's also a very tall man at 6'5
0:49 look out he's coming! He's coming get you
I felt more sympathy for Kharis in this one scene than I did Imhotep in two full movies.
Does the mummy really think that Mrs. Banning is Princess Ananka, or does he just want her to be due to the resemblance?
dbzgal04 - She reminded him too much of his long lost love. It was strong enough to give him back his free will. Watch how before The Mummy sees her, he walks like a robot. But when he leaves, he walks like a normal human.
@@ragejoona431 I noticed that too. It was proof that he truly loved Princess Ananka; I hope that they were finally together in the afterlife at the end of the movie.
When horror films real thrilled ........ Lee is absolutelly fantastic ...
Best Mummy movie ever made . And the sound track is fantastic . I actually used this music at an Ancient Egyptian Art Exhibition i did . It was the perfect touch ....
So I think my room is not available tonight.
"old horror movies weren't scary" meanwhile movies in the 50s and 60s had scenes this intense
Peter's vault over the desk is always fun to watch. Action Hero Cushing.
The terror of my childhood after I saw this horrific scene at the theatre. I hid under the covers every night for weeks afterward even tho it was mid summer and probably 80° in my room.
Cushing and Lee must have had a ball making this, destroying that beautiful office in only one possible take.
Like Karloff, Sir Christopher made his mummy both scary and sympathetic
I like her hair.
I already have dibs on it ,back off lady!!!!
@@elainecox6640 Oh, shut your mouth you entitled whiner. You already have dibs on it? What a laugh!
Looks terrible where did you steal this from?
It's funny how we jumped over the table
My favorite scene from a Hammer movie.Perfection
Ela é uma atriz bonita
I want a blu-ray version of this movie?
Joe Kobra Target.com for $12
There is a Blu Ray version of the 1959 movie The Mummy you can buy the movie on Amazon, Target, Best Buy , and Walmart
Esto si era terror
He walks at 1/2 a mile an hour, how are they both so bad at running away?
AAA acting
I agree with you really top shelf.
0:55 he should've used an anti-tank gun
I think Lee's physicality is much better here than in Dracula. With the latter (possibly because of how our ideas of vampires have been affected by other vampire media) it looks wrong that he doesn't have the super strength and speed to completely curbstomp Van Helsing.
Here, he plays the invulnerable, unassailably strong, just-slow-enough-to-get-away-from-but-too-fast-for-you-to-pause-for-a-second Mummy absolutely perfectly.
Fun fact: Lee and Cushing used to get kicked out of matinee movies together (Looney Toons cartoons) for goofing off in the theater. Well after this movie.
He should have just run away. The woman too. Mummy's can't run. Not in any mummy movie. He would never catch them.
Unless it's imhotep with his supernatural powers
You can run, but you can't hide.
The mummy is the song yes is of the fabulosss.... are he visto for you
Cushing spearing the mummy is just badass
