I'm a Viet Nam vet and we were treated like shit when we came home. Our own government just swept us under the rug like we weren't even worth thinking about. I lost so many buddies over there and even more when we came back to drugs and suicide. To the few of us still alive after all these years, you aren't alone buddy, I've got your 6. The black dude at the end always tears me up. He is saying "Bill, Bill, it's me Jacoby. You saved my life brother."
Thank you so much for sharing that! I've got you covered!
Hey Merlin. I know it doesn't make it right, but when our buddy came home from the Gulf in the 90's we were keenly aware of how you were treated and made sure to meet him at the airport and cheer him home at the top of our lungs. I wish we were there for you guys too🙏
Welcome home, brother!
Welcome home brother from this Army Iraq vet, my father served in the Marine corps in Nam during the Tet offensive
My father served in Nam. Thank you for your service and welcome home!
He best part of this song was the fact the donated 75% of revenue profits to help veterans and it still pays in to that account every time we listen to it
God bless them all ❤❤❤❤
I was a combat medic for four deployments in Iraq...you never forget what you were exposed to or how bad it really was. Stay strong Bro.
That last part always gets me. "You know me. You saved my life, brother."
I've watched a lot of reaction videos to this one. Very few of them catch the fact that Jacoby is the one that helped him up at the end of the video.
You had stated that 'I am part of the problem.' YOU ARE NOT part of the problem... those that you have defended ARE. Thank you for your service.
No one hates war more than a soldier. Semper Fi
"Any soldier worth his salt should be antiwar. And still there are things worth fighting for." - General Norman Schwarzkopf
I’m not a soldier but I’ve been raising hell with my reps and the oversite committee about funding these wars! I’m hating the wars n senseless deaths 😢
From what I understand, they hire vets to be in the videos. Thank you for your service sir! Godspeed
That's awesome. They seem like a great group
Yes they do. They hire them as set up people, photography and security.
The band itself is not in the video..all the men shown are veterans.
They also hire vets for their shows to be stage crew and set up/tear down and things like that. They have always tried to support vets however they can.
New subscriber.
So, the song makes me cry every single time i hear it. But this time... YOU made me cry. The way you expressed your frustrations (especially around Veteran's Day) brought me to tears.
I'm not a veteran. My Dad was a pilot in the USAF and was killed in Vietnam while flying a mission in the OV-10 Bronco. He was posthumously presented the Medal of Honor. Capt. Steven L. Bennett.
I am the president of the OV-10 Bronco Association, which does business as the Fort Worth Aviation Museum, in Ft. Worth, TX. It is my honor to work alongside many veterans, and I try so hard to make sure they are made as whole as I can. But im just me...I cant fix as much as I truly want to fix. We have to find a way to serve our veterans in ways they deserve.
Thank you for your service and the service of your fellow service members. Combat or not, you served. You signed on the dotted line that so many of us did not. So, thank you.
I see this song hit you to the core. Im so sorry it caused that reaction, but I also am so proud of the reaction....it means you take service to heart. I appreciate that. God Bless.
Wow thank you so much for that. I really appreciate your work and all the kind words.
same 😢
Majority of the American ppls love and deeply appreciate what our veterans n active duty troops have done for USA !! You’re All our National Treasures! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! My parents were veterans as were many of my uncles and cousins ❤️👍🌹🙏love and hugs to all of you🔥✨🔥🌹🌹
As a 23 year vet who went to trashcanistan multiple times, lost 5 friends and such..5FDP uses videos to tell the stories of their lyrics. They have several other songs that you will probably come across, “Gone Away” and a more. I have watched hundreds of reactions to this song and it’s always the vet reactions that take it the hardest. Amazing reaction and you should listen to more of them. Semper Fi brother. 8 years Marines, 15 years Army.
As a divorced fourth generation vet, with TBI and PTSD, that was homeless for three years and now existing under a program for homeless vets, that wakes up thinking shit another day. Yeah, this song always hits hard. It is what it is.
Hit me hard. It's crazy to see the numbers
I'm not a vet, but I know the feeling of "Yay, another day, just what I need right now!". I wish I could tell you something that helps, besides spite (That is what keeps me running), I can't even say I understand what you are facing, but: I see you and I wish you hope and peace inside. Greetings from Germany, I will root for you.
20 year retired Air Force veteran. I was not in combat but serving overseas I learned to freeze when I heard a rifle being charged by "friendly" forces who would shoot and ask questioned later. One of my troops missed being bayoneted when he surprised one of the friendly soldiers. Being in so called friendly areas could be hazardous. Foreign troops. When told to guard an area and kill trespassers, they did it.
Hi my American brother from across the pond in uk I was in iraq 1991 this song hits home in England. Aswell our government hates us ps I still suffer with ptsd
I want to thank you sir very much for your service, this video made me cry my eyes out, our vets are treated like garbage here and it breaks my heart to this day. Both my folks served in the R.A.F. In we two. I married a marine. I’m soooo very sorry sir of plight, with my utmost respect sir. I pray you find inner peace. Keep listening to FFDP.
I thank you for trying to listen to this, I’m not a fan of country at all. But you dove in, I respect that sir. This song is about the shabby way we treat our returning vets. Your a very…you know! Hats off to you sir! ❤
Hello mate, both my folks served in thee R.A.F. During wow two. Heard many stories from dad about what he saw, he saw his buddies killed soo he had us in all ears mode. He had a big basket of real pics of shells glowing in the dark.how and what they ate in destroyed England 🏴 I still won’t touch the nasty things things they ate. I’m sooo sorry for your pain sir, you have my deepest respect sir, thank you for serving. I will pray that you have nice happy days now luv. Have a nice plate of bangers and mash aye? lol be kind to yourself luv!❤❤❤
I’m from Northern Ireland & just want to say thank you for your service Sir. My various medical conditions would not let me sign up when I was younger, but I support every single man & woman who serves our country. You guys all deserve so much better healthcare, counseling, housing etc than you get. Full respect to you all 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 (including you guys across the pond 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸)
Thankyou kez x
I served for 16 years...ive seen this more times than i can count. It both breaks my heart and infuriates me. I usually give marines grief lol...i was Army...so you know the game. But that is all in good fun....When its a true situation...we got each other....thank you for your service, Devil dog
It came out last year that one of FFDP's roadies is a trans woman. Some absolute manlet tweeted "How can you stand to have that...bundle of kindling (if you know you know) in your inner circle". Lead singer responded with "She's not the (bundle of kindling), you are". I fucking love this band man.
This song & video gets me every time. I lost my younger brother 01/26/15 to suicide. He'd spent 5 years in the Army & deployed twice. He was out barely 6 months when I got the call from the police saying he was gone, forever 25. He'd spent the day before at my house with myself, my son/his nephew, and my now ex-husband (who was a Marine Corps veteran himself who still dealing with PTSD). The guilt we both still feel not seeing the signs is still something we struggle with. My ex deployed to Iraq from 2006 to 2007 when we were 20, married less than 6 months. It took years for him to open up about even a little bit of what he experienced. But he also said they were there to protect poppy fields for heroin more than for an actual war against America, which made what both sides of innocent lives loss that much worse. Many died for no reason. The things he saw, what they had to do to try & keep fellow brothers & sisters in arms alive still haunts him almost 20 years later #22TooMany
This song was released in 2015 and sadly these numbers have tripled. Thank you for your service brother
I'm a Gulf War Vet myself. I can't see this video without freaking out. It just gets ya.
Thank you for your service Sir ❤ I know it might not mean much but I spent hours daily praying for all our troops over there! My cousins 3 and one nephew were in that war also 😢
I am with you on being pissed off at how so many veterans are treated in the US. As a desert storm/desert shield era vet, this video is always hard to watch. The song is so real, and the video really drives home the raw reality so many great veterans face.
I just wanted to say, thank you for noticing some of the things I've seen many other reactors miss. To this day, this band still does a segment at each of their concerts where they honor vets and during a different song, cancer survivors. They get a lot of flack in the press sometimes, but their hearts are in the right place. (and yeah, USAF 1989-1993, so it matters to me)
My middle son is is Navy. UsS Makin Island. Our Vets earned to be taking care of. Don't have my freedom without what they did!!!
New subscriber , First off Thank you sir for your dedication and service to our country ❤️🇺🇸
This song is an emotional punch in the gut but it's message needs to be blasted from the rooftops.
Our Veterans deserve so much more than they are given.
I cannot express my gratitude for everything Veterans have done to keep my family and loved ones safe.
Thank you to all who have served.❤️🇺🇸
While this song hits closer to home for a lot of modern veterans, you should check out Motorthead's "1916". It's a gut punch along the same lines, and Lemmy's vocals are just wrenching. It's about a WWI British soldier. I won't spoil it, but it's a mindfuck. Beautiful song, but hard to listen to.
Sabaton did a cover of 1916. Powerful rendition and vid. It was also a tribute to Lemmy, featuring appearances by Motorhead band members Mikkey Dee Phil Campbell marching with a picture of Lemmy.
Danish vet here. I know it's f... hard to cope. But remain strong, brothers. There's still a life to live, and the choice is yours. Don't give up!
As a fellow vetran I was in Iraq in 2010, I high recommend checking out ffdp's cover of "gone away"
💯
This song absolutely wrecks me, man. Safety and peace to my fellow vets, especially the ones who served more than me.
I just lost my father back in October, he was a marine, he was discharged right before they froze them. So he missed the Vietnam war by the skin of his teeth. I’m thankful he did. His father was also a marine, he did not miss WW2. I grew up knowing the phrase, once a marine, always a marine. I joined the Navy, my father and grandfather teased me endlessly about it, always called me a swabe! I’m 55 now, but as a 19 yr old girly girl, I told my father I didn’t choose the marines because I still wanted to be a girl. He liked to tease, but I think he was proud that I served. Anyway, Semper Fi!
I feel like every american or immigrant that lives in this country should be required to watch this video.
I’m a veteran This song hits hard every time I watch it
You should check out 5 finger death punch Gone Away as well
Absolutely
Just think of how great it would be if we took care of our veterans first instead of foreign wars. Our people should always come first
Ur write amen
Army mama here with a son with ptsd Al Asir base he deployed my youngest sons father died when he was two killed himself served Afghanistan Marines I have nephews uncles grandfathers all served We know the sacrifices so with that said I truly appreciate your honest reaction to this song, my son still having a hard time he served 6 years, I want to Thank you from my humble heart to yours a big Thank you for your service and Thank you for your honesty about how it is coming out! May God bless you always ❤️🇺🇸🙏🏻
As a fellow Vet this song guts me every damn time
This song always makes me cry! It's heartbreaking how many past veterans are suffering! I actually think not showing your emotions and admitting when you need helpis hurting you more than showing them😢
This video breaks me down every time I see it, probably because I regret not serving. Thank you for your service and sacrifices, bro!
You are so welcome
Thank you & all veterans for my freedom!!!
🌹✨🌹✨🌹❤️🔥✨🌹❤️
Hello beautiful souls, as a Vet to all the Men and Women who served in the Military Living Or Died.. I would like to tell you all I love you and thanks for your Contribution and God Bless You all for being my Hero... Semper Fi
I have nothing but respect for those who have served no matter what branch of military my grandfather came back from World War 2 with PTSD he wasn't the same he didn't like to speak of what he saw no matter what war you have been in you have sacrificed so much for us
Thank you for your service, and for pushing through this reaction.
Marines are special, never forget that
Thanks for your service Brother!
Much appreciated
THANK YOU MARINE! LOST MY BROTHER IN '68' WALTER JAMES DANCER MARINE!
Happy Veterans Day! My son’s a Marine and I was Navy during Desert Storm. Yesterday was the Marine Corps’s birthday and I called and told him happy birthday from your mommy the Navy. Thank you for your service. This song has helped so many veterans. Thank you reacting to it. 😊
300,000 is a huge force when you consider it in a military way. I hope they stop disregarding us soon.
And to you personally TW, never hold yourself as weak or failing in any regard! You were a US Marine, combat or not. Your service did not put you on the line, but your service strengthened everyone who was on the line. Remember that, and remember them. USN 87-93.
I get emotional every time I hear this. While my dad was spit upon when he returned from Nam, I was celebrated but then forgotten. Don't know which was worse. Yet night frights and insomnia still are a daily thing decades later. Joined #VeteransHelpingVeterans, it helps, once a soldier always a soldier (or Marine) and we are still a unit. We must rely on each other as we did before.
#Hooah to your #Oorah!
Hey, my dad was on base in camp lejeune when 9/11 happened to. he said he was teaching a class when someone came running in saying that the towers have been hit. the guy was known for making jokes so no one believed him until my dad turned on the tv and it kept replaying, and out of the corner of the tv, he saw the 2nd plane and everyone's hearts dropped. i remember it like it was yesterday, because he sent me to live with my grandparents (i was 6) and he got shipped off to fight. you may have met him in your time in Lejeune. his name is Christopher Marlin, at the time i believe it was "Sergeant Marlin", before he picked up Staff Sergeant. Also, i was born in the naval hospital by Lejeune.
Im not a veteran. I wanted to serve my country, but was rejected due to having epilepsy. I did marry into a military family though. A goal i have is to independently open housing facilities for all veterans with aminaties, free meals, free healthcare by nonbiased Dr's, and anything else that can help our vets adjust to life. By doing it independently that means absolutely NO involvement from the government, because they have failed our service men and women. I've had this goal for awhile and will continue to work towards it. Considering what it would take to accomplish it, i still have a lot of work to do.
Thank u 2 all who have served
Totally agree with the Veterans Day off. What really gets under my skin is how many things are given to Active duty only(which they do deserve) but not to someone who has dedicated 20 years of there life.
Five Finger Death Punch has written quite a few songs like this. Very powerful lyrics and videos like Gone Away, which I saw you reacted to it, When the Seasons Change, which has to do with policemen, Remember Everything, and Coming Down. There are others, but these songs are amazing. Songs about mental health issues, you can listen to Amity Affliction and songs like All Fu**ed Up, Like Love, Don't Lean on Me and Not Without My Ghosts. Another group mentioning is Dream Theater and they have s song called The Enemy Inside, that talks about soldiers and PTSD they deal with. They even interview military persons before the song starts and gives updates after. Appreciate you listening to this song.
Thank you for your service man!!
Much appreciated
Thank you so much for your service man
I haven’t served. RN 30 yrs. L&D MFM. I have witnessed warriors. Newborns families. At the bedside watching death. I cannot comprehend a soldiers experience. I never will. Much respect and gratitude to the men and women that served and the ones serving today
I just wanted to add my .02 from the spouse/dependent side.
It takes a village and we signed up too.
My Granny, Mom, myself and our daughter have been holding down the home-front (as a career) and will always have your six.
I grew up around vets. One of the most psychologically damaged ones I met was a WWII Army vet who fought in the Pacific. I don't know the details or what campaigns he was in, but he experienced some really, really bad stuff that he couldn't move past. He died in the mid 1970s, a shell of a man whose eyes and skin were yellow from a failing liver caused by decades of drinking himself into oblivion.
Thank you, sir, for your service. If anybody in the comment section sees a veteran at a grocery store, make sure to thank them for their service. You don't know how much that simple phrase can make their day better.
I fought in the war against terrorism and my own personal beliefs are the true heroes never came home and its crazy how many people thinks we are nothing but murderers it causes severe depression and in many cases the taking of their own lives ive lost 3 to that and hope i don't lose any more friends
I'm a veteran, Army Medic 83-89 not deployed. And I agree on the Veterans Day thing . I've been saying that for 34 yrs that we should get the day off, Helll it doesn't even have to be a paid day, just give me the option to take the day off without it counting against Mty attendance.
As a two tour combat veteran of Vietnam I had trouble getting through this song. I served 18 months with the 23rd Infantry Division in Quang Nghai province. I suffer from PTSD and a severe anxiety disorder. I finally disassociated myself from other people other than family and manage to survive. I’m 74 now and sometimes I look forward to leaving this world. I won’t hurt myself but I’m just existing, not really living.
As a combat medic retired after 21 years active army I try and promote five finger death punch all I can, they are so pro military it’s outstanding, even running playing in the CZ as a USO thing, lot of great songs all deep❤
This video always gets me in the feels. I served from '92-'96. Thank you for your service. Superb reaction video!!! Keep it up.
Thank you very much I appreciate it. Thank you for your service!!!
thank you for your service
Semper Fi brother! I went to a warzone twice but never saw combat. I was a supportive role and I know Marines who ended themselves after they got out. The adjustments to civilian life is giant depending on many factors. I've experienced both sides of the employment landscape when i didnt work with military (in & out) and when i did. Its night and day and it actually helps being around coworkers who were also prior military. Lastly id like to tell everyone that in my experiences, one thing I've come to realize why there may be so many issues with Veterans becoming homeless or just not adjusting is that usually in some capacity you leave a job where you are in charge kf others to having to start over again from the bottom per se. Thats an adjustment in itself. The leadership structure is differently arranged and even how its earned. I think you had an authentic reaction and explained yourself really well.
I never had the honor of serving my country, I thank you for your service. I'm currently 55, and the problem is this is the America neither of us grew up in. The sad part is I don't see it ever coming back either. God bless you and any other vet that sees this reaction.
I appreciate the real response to your experiences. I can honestly say that this song cuts to the heart of our nation that we need to find ways to support the citizens that have supported our natin, combat or not. I was not in combat but felt the impacts to my family and seen it in others and as others family members that have experienced combat its shocking. U cant know unless u have experienced this, and we should put those that have sacrificed on the highest pedestal. God Bless America and those that sacrificed all to protect our freedoms. Remember leaders should not say these patriots are "Suckers and losers" " I only like winners" .
SEMPER FI these guys dont deserve what is happening to them ... EVERY 22 seconds a vet loses his life to his own hand. Sometimes, its more than I can handle, especially in my job. EVERY 22 SECONDS
100% Every Vet should get a paid holiday on Veterans day. Mandated by law. They (you know who they are) all start these wars, but we fight and finish the wars. (even tho its never over, and never forgotten) We get no help when we get out, and if we aren't the lucky ones that are able to make it work, we get lost and forgotten in the system. (and the unlucky ones (the ones the video is talking about) don't even get lost in the system. They just end up lost. Until the next war. (BTW this song and video is 11/10 years old. The song is from 2013 and the Video was first released August 11, 2014. Those numbers are 10 YEARS OLD!!!! Imagine what they are today....
And free medical care for life❤❤❤❤
Wow. Thank you. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your real emotion and reaction. You are appreciated, brother. This video crushes me every time but adding your honesty to it was something, man. I'm tempted to say it was a beautiful experience but that isn't the right word. I gotta go change my shirt now from wiping all these tears. ❤
bro... not a vet... but I lost my daughter... FFDP hits me in the feels every time... check out "Gone Away'... similar vibe... thanks for your service.
Thank you deeply for your service. Your sacrifice does not go unappreciated in my book.
Willing to help where & when i can.
Semper Fi brother.
Much appreciated
Thank you sir, its easy to see your emotion walk the line. You are appreciated.
I'm so sorry for this sad reality...
Thank you from Portugal
Also served during 9-11. Also not a combat vet. Was NBC attached to an air defense unit on Fort Stewart at the time. We were still training National Guard and Reservists for Bosnia and Kosovo.
Got a heart for my fellow veterans and thankfully my church does too. Put together a veteran appreciation bbq for the men and women who served, and their families, just to show my brothers and sisters some love. Not on Memorial Day, not on Veterans Day, set apart on a day not associated with soldiers to fellowship with one another.
That's awesome of you and your community to do. We (including me) need to try to do more as a nation. You'd think we would have learned by now. For you to do it on a random day is really great. It doesn't come off as an empty thank you because the day calls for it. Thank you for your service and Semper Fi.
Im a vet and a fed. 90% of us at work are vets. We get the good govt jobs too!
I'm a german Veteran and i can just say, thank you to safe ourer a**es in afghanistan! Area PRT Kunduz 2009-2011.
Was in kandahar in all of 2011
Loved your reaction. Thanks for doing this, and thank you for your service. Oo-rah!
I served in the military for four years at the end of the Cold War (I'm a boomer). I felt everything you felt, the first time I watched this video.
And again when I watched it today.
I'm not a vet, but I listened to this song about 6 years ago and it was the first time I had cried in about 15 years.
The pain os inreal, what you brain and emotion puts you through, but YOU have to keep it together for others. Cant feel you emotion or pain. Locked away running head first into prison bars looks good
I am an Army Artillery combat veteran and this song speaks to me...I went to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once.
This video is older. Think how horrendous those numbers are now. Thank you for your service. Just an FYI, FFDP fully support the troops through donations as well as doing shows for them. It is my understanding that one band member is certified to teach marshal arts to the troops. I think, if I remember right, the only civilian with that certification. They love the troops as we all should.
As a veteran also and currently homeless with my kids, this song gets to me. Fighting with my local va to better services to help our brothers and sisters in arms and their families is exhausting, but I won't give up for my family nor other families going through the same struggles. I help any homeless veteran I come across with food and a drink and sometimes just someone to talk to. Thank you brother for your service
If there is a government agency that needs more people, it isn’t the IRS. The VA needs more people helping our fellow veterans to get the help they desperately need. These statistics are not okay. The average VA claim, is taking 6 months or more to be processed.
Thank you sir for your service. Ffdp is a rabbit hole I recommend you go down.

"Gone Away" that the other guy mentioned is a cover of the Offspring song, but they way they've interpreted it through the video is f-in' HEAVY.
Definitely gonna do a reaction to it. Thanks so much
im no vet but for some reason this song makes me cry
THANK YOU for YOUR SERVICE and the other VETS out there
I feel ya! As a veteran myself, it breaks my heart to see how our government has treated our brothers in arms!
Everyone in the video had a vet help them, except the one loosing his family. There was no one for him.
You should go re-watch the ending because the dark complected guy with the suit and the guy with the beanie up against the wall or parts of the same unit and the dark complected guy mouthed the words you know me.... You saved my life
God bless you. I went to Desert Storm in 1990-1991 and 80% of my unit is disabled from chemicals and filing claims to try to get help.
Sorry, brother, and i feel your pain. My father came back from Vietnam with ptsd and drank a lot a lot a lot and it tore our family up. Alot of pain and anxiety and anger.
Thank you for sharing and spreading the word. Semper Paratus
I have yet to get through this video without crying and I've watched it many times. Saw them in concert a year ago and found the song to be even more powerful live
In the 1970/80 Canada use to close for Nov.11. when that stopped my parents agreed to us skipping school to attend the service at the cenotaph. I still do that 40 years later. God bless each and every soldier, sailor and airman, true heroes ❤
Five Finger Death Punch is a heavy metal/hard rock band.
Crazy shit hits the heart hard brother. Our govt don’t give a shit about us. I seen it hit you within seconds of rolling the video. All we can do is look out for each other. Stay strong Semper fi brother.
Very true it's a damn shame
Hello TwistedWhiskey and since you're a vet and liked Five Finger do yourself a favor 1st Go see Five Finger live! You wont regret it. 2nd Watch Gone Away its a cover of REM. But is a completely different song way Five Finger does it.
You can do millions of REAL Americans who know r behide you AND we feel the PAIN MY DADDY, GPA ON AND ON
My boyfriend was in the Marines in the Philippines in the 80s, was in some shit even though it wasn't considered combat, still fucked him up. Don't feel that your pain is less because you weren't in combat. They made you into a killer even if you didn't. Thank you for loving us enough to do that
Your honesty explains the reason why you were picked to fight for us. Thank you for your service brother.
edit: weirdly you posted the video on my b-day. Whatever that means. Take care brother.
I appreciate that
Idk if this is appropriate to say here or not. this is not bait or anything.
just wanted to say how far this song reaches. A veteran is a Vet no matter the location. and they're mistreated the moment they are not needed or they are not of use as a meat to throw at the bombs.
I'm not American. I'm Iranian (and I want our current regime to go and b*rn down as the rest of 70 million people,) I now live in Canada and my sister is in California. My dad is a veteran of Iran-Iraq war. He still has bomb and bullets' shreds (idk what they're called) inside his waist and legs. I wasn't born then but my sister was born two years after the war started. He speaks English as much as a "hello, how are you, how much," but he teared up [internally] when he saw this video. I translated the statistics and stuff for him but not the lyrics. Yet, he almost cried. I have never seen him cry, I have heard him cry on the phone but never seen it in my 24 years of life.
He didn't go for our country to be like how it is today. He didn't go so the gov can abuse the name of his martyr friends to to fuck with other countries while our own people suffer.
It's horrendous how all over the world those on power abuse the efforts and sacrifices of soldiers and martyrs only treat them like a worn out punching bag,
