    What I don't understand is why it's called 'full service'. Full service used to mean the attendant pumping your gas, checking tire pressure, oil level, cleaning your windshield. I've NEVER experienced that within the last 15 years.
    Full Service now apparently means having to run into the station, pre-pay for gas, being given a ticket to hand to the attendant outside so he/she could pump the gas - basically everything BUT full service. At least it was that way when I'd go to an Arco. Pretty pointless "full service" to me.

    This issue should have been left to the voters, not the lawmakers. The law should have been the same for the entire state, not divided into urban and rural. What would have been wrong with mandating ALL gas stations to have both self-serve and attendant served pumps. What's next for lawmakers? Due to shortages are they going to legislate self-serve in hospitals too?

    When we moved to Oregon in 1979 we thought No Self-Serve was almost as cool as the Bottle Bill. Now, the gas will be just as expensive, the oil companies will make more money, fewer people will be employed, and the service will be worse. At (e.g.) Seven Feathers (which already has both kinds of pumps), you have to wait so long for an attendant that you give up and pump it yourself, even if you don't like self-serve. That will be the new normal.

    Thank god we can pump gas!! People in Oregon need to calm down. First of all no one is losing a job, when gas stations have been struggling to find workers. And who the hell wants to pump gas! Work on your own skills and go for a better job!! I’m born and raised in Oregon and so tired of the people not knowing what they are talking about. You want to go after someone, go after refineries. They are the ones that control what gas cost! Go online and see how much a drum of oil cost, that’s the price they pay and then they have to make it. So how many of you Portlanders know the cost of making gas is? The cost of equipment and employees and all the systems that are put in place at the facility. I seriously shake my head at people that live in the metro area that believe in this fairytale

    • @funnyfarm5555
      @funnyfarm5555 Год назад

      On the news this morning they said refineries are set up to make gasoline between 32 degrees f and 95 degrees f so that is another excuse they are using for high gas prices. Gas stations will now pay their attendants even less so that hardly anyone will want to be an attendant. Then, the line for full - serve will become tremendous with the one teenager who took the minimum pay job. Stations will then open lots of self- -serve pumps, claiming its that or nothing. That will be against the law, but who is going to enforce it ? Bye-bye full-service in Oregon, just like it is in other states.

    Hopefully the places where there's no way to set a limit on how much gas is pumped whether or not they prepay, won't have to allow customers to pump their own gas. I know where I have worked it's nearly impossible to get someone who is not a regular to be honest or just mindful when putting gas in their car after paying.

    • @Infectd
      @Infectd Год назад

      Huh? Almost every gas station in the Midwest requires prepay and the pump stop at the prepay, though 99% of people just pay at the pump with a card. The pump auto stops when you are full too. It would be impossible to over pump your gas. It's insane to me some places still make servants pump gas.

    • @ncg8259
      @ncg8259 Год назад

      Devices can fail or be misused, overpumps are not that uncommon. Also, gas attendants are voluntarily employed and get paid for their work, are generally faster and cause less overpumps. Many stations are so busy that they would lose more business profit than what they would pay in wages to employees that keep the line moving

    • @Infectd
      @Infectd Год назад

      @@ncg8259 What kind of idiocy is this? I am in my 40s and have been driving my entire life. I have never once been to a gas station since the late 1990's that even allowed for over pump. Hell, I have not seen one that allowed you to pump before you pay/use a card at the pump before it will even turn on since the early 2000's. Add to that, you do not need a degree or even more than a simple talk to from your dad to know how to pump gas at an elite level. Why? Cause you have to be mentally broken if you are incapable of swiping a card, inserting a hose and turning it on. Then it turns itself off when you are full. THats in over 20yrs of driving I have never once experienced this "over pump" nor have I ever seen a line for gas outside the hours after the 9/11 attack when people lost their shit.

    • @ncg8259
      @ncg8259 Год назад

       @Infectd I could roll up to your gas station with an empty volume in my tank equivalent to $10 worth of gasoline, and program the machine for $20. Some other places allow you a "limitless" (Typically these will pre-authorize $100, $200 or so and then run an actual charge for the correct amount after the nozzle is returned) fill when you use your card at the pump. It's great that you're personally capable of handling yourself at the gas station, but that isn't true for everyone. Some people are overtly obsessed with pumping to an exact dollar value. Some people park on the wrong side and instead of turning the car around try to stretch the hose over the car. Some people forget to remove the nozzle before they drive away. Some people want to fill illegal containers or even intentionally dispense gasoline onto the ground. It's not you that is the problem, it's them.
      If you've never seen a line at the gas station you might just live in BFE, but if not check out your nearest Costco or other grocery stores that offer fuel rewards at 4pm on a business day.

    • @Infectd
      @Infectd Год назад

      @@ncg8259 The absolute worst part about what you just said is... all the people you described get to vote... FML.
      I don't know what type of backwards gas stations you have but ours cut off when the tank is full. (Midwest) Exact dollar is what prepay is for, and the pump itself has this weird little invention called a digital screen literally telling you how much you have pumped. You can even squeeze a little less tight to go slower for exact value. Now the stretched hose one over the car is just an IQ test. Now hold on, I'm about to blow your mind. If you look at your gas gauge... 99% of cars have this little arrow on the gauge in the dashboard itself that tells you which side of the car your tank is on.
      Lines don't form at gas station pumps around me because the people of the Midwest have always pumped their own gas and it is super basic. Like knowing how to use a toaster.
      But lowkey, if you see someone stretching the hose across their car... You are looking at a drunk/drugged driver or a future Darwin award winner.
