    Lovely work as usual. I was surprised there were no leaves with it, as it must be pretty big when fully open. You need to live in a house with big rooms to swallow up a table that big when not in use and open. Happy New Year to your family!

    Had a similar table and mechanism. Found in yard sale. Was told it was a ballroom table. Tabletop would tilt lock in upright position, be pushed back to wall to make room for dancing. The pedestal top was a finished small square where drinks could be sat...

  • @rockshot100

    I would have had NO idea of what to do to fix that thing. Maybe the reason I am so addicted to your channel and find it so interesting. The top finish was in amazing condition, considering.
    I wish you had shown how these mechanisms work, I am confused. So aren't there supposed to be a couple of leaves that fit in the middle, hence the fact that it splits?
    Would the possible leaves have had a piece of skit on them? What a nightmare that would have been to get those curved right. I wonder that because they would have been hard to build, store away and when extended, and they would have used a tablecloth anyway. I think.
    Those could be easily added later if needed, and yes it is huge already.
    Still confusing why the top is supposed to open with the tracks without optional leaves.
    It was so interested to see how this was constructed. This exemplifies the respect for the materials in keeping with the Arts and Crafts movement. The crappy wood tracks were not done by the same guy that did the top, since the top wood was carefully selected to harmonize together.
    Generally I don't use as dark of a stain as would have been, but you taught me a lesson on that. It is a little strange to see this table looking brand new, it is almost like a time warp.
    Thanks, and I will bet it is good to be back with Dad again.

    • @rockshot100
      @rockshot100 Год назад

      SIX??? Holy Crap, that is enough for 20-some people, probably for more. 24?
      Now I am sure each leaf has a skirt but wouldn't have to be curved at all, now that I think about it. I was so mesmerized I wasn't thinking. It is a rectangle with each end curved or a half circle. Wish you would have shown or mentioned this, maybe part 2? It is a marvel and only 2 legs.@@johnsfurniturerepair Thanks.

Your work is so impeccable it is hard to even capture that there was ever anything wrong with any of the workings..........not just on this piece but all I have watched you do these several years. The lucky owner must have an interesting story about this piece. I can imagine the pride your father feels having taught you all these procedures during the years and of course many you have taken on and done alone as your craft talents have continued on. That table looks like it might be missing two or three or four leaves down the center. Is this possible? Have you seen an original ad from the time the table was made to tell you if there are leaves missing? Would the present owner know if there are leaves missing? I sure do admire the way you got everything working again under that table. It really is a beautiful table. Are there chairs that match it at the owners home? I sure hope so because it sucked a beautiful piece of furniture. Thank you so much for sharing, you do such beautiful work!!
