    As ever interesting and educational in a thoroughly engaging way. Loved your Welsh pronunciation, just attempt it with a clogged throat and you're there 😂 I learnt some Welsh at school decades ago in the Gower Penisula, now I'm relearning on Duolingo! The UK has fascinating canal networks, tiny little things compared to these yet once incredibly important. I sometimes paint things in a folk art style loosely based on canalware, school trips to a local canal in Derbyshire clearly stayed with me much more than I'd realised 😮😂❤ Great video 😊

    In Sweden, we have Göta kanal, which isn't impressive or that important, but as the most famous canal in Sweden, with it's own movie franchise, it's to us Swedes a big deal. Yeah, Sweden has a movie franchise of a canal that just happen to be the most famous canal in Sweden. Don't ask me why, because to me, it's just a canal, nothing more, nothing less, and the closest city to me, also has a very small canal, and a river, but the canal isn't used anymore, and that river isn't used by big boats and freight ships, but instead mostly by tourist tour boats and private fishing ships. The biggest ships used by Sweden is just big enough to fit the largest rivers and canals. The ships Sweden uses is a bit too big for some rivers and canals

    the locks at the panama canal are for maintaining sea levels, it’s because the canal is straight, it goes up a mountain than down one. keeping the locks open would mean no water in the canal at all

I still live near Llangollen and my son is at High School there.

    The "ll" in Welsh doesn't have a corresponding vocalization in English, but it's like a hissing shhh sound. And the o is a long o. Y is eee, and the final e is a long a.
    So, p-oh-nt-key-seeshh-tay is about as close as you can get with an English accent, I believe.
    For the "ll" sound, listen to Rhys Davies. He slips it in on occasion.
    I'm not a native Welsh speaker, but have been working on learning it for a couple of years off and on.

    What would happen if the Panama canal did not have the gates to raise and lower water? How would the difference in the oceans water level affect the area?

    • @GemstonePhilosophy
      @GemstonePhilosophy Год назад +2

      My guess is that it would create so much turbidity that the canal would be unusable and ultimately, the walls of the canal would likely collapse and be filled with sediments. If that were not a problem, and the canal could handle the flow between the two oceans, it would likely be persistent and powerful tidal flows, and who knows how that could disrupt natural cycles, including weather and flora and fauna distribution.

    • @williamromine5715
      @williamromine5715 Год назад +2

      Actually, I don't think the Atlantic and Pacific oceans are at a different height. The reason for the locks is to raise ships to the ground level of the canal. A large section of the canal is an existing lake. It would have been too expensive to have cut the canal all the way down to the ocean level ( The Suez Canal is at the water level from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.).
      Remember, there really is only one ocean. We named them differently, but it's really just one world wide body of water.

    • @GemstonePhilosophy
      @GemstonePhilosophy Год назад

      @@williamromine5715 this is all true, but tides do effect sea level, and while tides are low on one side of the ocean, displacement means tides are high on the other side, at least figuratively speaking. Either way, the canal would not be usable without the locks, even if they had dug enough to completely connect the two oceans.

    • @guerrerosaurio
      @guerrerosaurio Год назад

      @@williamromine5715 Makes sense; and now that you've mentioned it I zoomed in the maps and there is indeed a lake. I always thought they straight up dug the whole canal which would've been expensive but possible.

    This breaks my heart!
    Please take the time to read this!
    Matthew 25:31-46
    When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
    32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
    33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
    34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
    35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
    36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
    37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
    38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
    39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
    40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
    41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
    42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
    43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
    44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
    45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
    46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
