The death of Concorde story always saddened me. They flew 28 years straight without any single accident whatsoever, and then another plane's accidental debris (that wasn't cleaned from the runway because apparently no one knows that the debris was there) brought Concorde to its first and last accident, which was also fatal for everyone on board and four people in the hotel it came crushed into. 😢 I know that nobody and nothing is perfect in this world, but Concorde was basically flawless for almost 3 decades. And now nobody dared to try something so cool like that again... Flying with Concorde used to be many people's childhood dreams...

The Concorde had 80 safety deficiencies for today's passenger transport airworthines. It was a ticking bomb, bad redundance systems and an aerodinamic that only works at high speed. Take off and landing was a critical issue and forget about gliding with this thing, on engine fail it falls down like a stone.

The Concorde itself didn't suck. The aircraft performed as intended or better than designed, and the Air France crash was the only crash the airplane experienced. What sucked was the development costs and people not knowing what a supersonic airliner would do sound-wise. The plane burned a lot of fuel, but this was by design, as the engines of the time were less efficient than today's. Incidentally, the Tu-144 "Concordski" was based off stolen Concorde plans and was rushed into production with typical Russian quality issues. Still, NASA flew a modified Tu-144 as a test bed for supersonic research in the 1990s.

The biggest reason "Malls" are failing despite wierd attractions is online shopping. Everybody wants convenience but the real life logistical problem of staying stocked with the greatest new thing is impossible. 😢 our local mall stays afloat only because of community fairs, craft shows, and the wierd vendors in the common areas.😢 Covid almost killed it completely.

@@LunaryxDiarmait Yeah but that's you and you represent a tiny segment of society that will become obsolete as convenience becomes the norm, it's a generational mindset switch that is inevitable as more people are going to be born into guaranteed conveniences which majority will indeed take that for granted as that's what been established since their birth. A huge generational switch is eminent to take place as the advancements in all fields, be it Ai, be it fusion reactors, be it whatever, it is all to make the most out of the resources we have access to, but it also indirectly leads people to a more sedentary, lethargic lifestyle which is definitely where the future is headed. We already in the present day have conveniences that our predecessors deemed impossible & unlikely, yet here we are.
i feel the goal of humanity that is inherently decided is to make technological advancements which either gives us access to data/knowledge inaccessible prior or technologies that make the present life of humanity to be more tolerable so that they have more time and mental resources to utilize their brainpower for advancements which might have been established as not fathomable at the time.
I wonder, is this not how our ancestors thought about WIFI & other advancements etc. and I know you might have thought that too for a future technological advancement we haven't yet achieved, but at what point do we really know we have not maximized the potential of resources in earth itself? with further advancements would other planetary resources really be out of reach? is there really a limit when our universe is ever so expansive? we'd never know in our lifetime, but can you really discount the growth of humanity, even though it has progressed indefinitely?

In fairness the Concorde flew for 28 years, halving the flight time between Europe and the U.S. east coast. In its 28 years of operation there was one fatal accident, occurring in 2000, that was actually caused by parts falling off the plane that took off before it. The planes were all pulled from service following the accident until an investigation could be completed. While they did return to service for a couple of years after the accident and investigation they never returned to profitability and were finally decommissioned in 2003. There were a great number of engineering discoveries made during the development process that are still relevant today. A very expensive megaproject for sure but certainly not useless.

I got a tour of the inside of one but I really really wanted to go on a flight, and I missed out on a ticket giveaway by about 10 people. In the summer of 1998 I believe it was virgin but it could have been British Caledonia airlines was giving away two tickets per person to take the Concorde round trip from Los Angeles to London, you had to come dressed up as an alien from another planet, there were no rules for halibut the costumes had to be and they had 50 sets of two tickets. There were people that were going to a store and purchasing a pair of flippers and coming back and say that they're from a water planet and their entire costume was a pair of swim fins, but because initially they didn't have anybody that came in costume everybody that showed up in the first 50 people won a set of tickets. I found out about it I grabbed some stuff to make a quick costume and when I got there I was about the 60th person. I was very disappointed, they gave me one of the consolation prizes which was a hat, and it wasn't even a Concorde hat it was I want to say British Caledonian airways hat.

1: Provide a plan for a new port or roadway.
2: Offer generous financing for the project described in item 1.
3: The financing agreement has two major stipulations.
3a: The project must use Chinese companies for the labor and Chinese vendors for the supplies.
3b: The project itself and the land it sits on is the collateral for the financing.
4: This means that china is paying ITSELF to build the project, AND that the project AND the land becomes Chinese property if(when) the 'hosting country' defaults on the loan.

Hello! Architecture student here. In one of my classes I had to look at a randomly assigned Serpentine Pavilion (a yearly architecture exhibit where the world's best architecture firms design a temporary pavilion to sit next to the Serpentine Gallery, London) and design a cafe based on it. I was, unfortunately, assigned a pavilion by none other than MVRDV, the same architects behind Marble Arch Mound.
And you'll never guess what their pavilion was...
It was a geometric artificial hill over the gallery, that, I kid you not, looked like a plastic mountain with a tunnel for a kids train set.
It turns out that MVRDV has a thing for artificial hills.
Their pavilion, luckily, never got built because it was too expensive.
Also, luckily for me, all the tutors agreed that I could be reassigned because the pavilion (a) was never built, and (b) was ugly and they all hated it.

My husband, our kids, and I, went to the mall in New Jersey in April 2021. We were on vacation in New York City, and I really thought my kids would fall in love with NYC, like their dad and I, but they were not impressed lol It also didn't help that the stores closed around 7pm because of Covid restrictions. Anyways, I was trying to find something fun to do with them and came across the waterpark in the mall, so we went. The waterpark was sooooo boring and a hugeeee waste of money. The wave pool takes up the entire space, the lazy river was super tiny, they had like 4 slides, 2 of which were for toddlers, so my kids were too old to use and the other 2 were huge. My husband went down the biggest and ended up with a massive bruise on his back and butt. He has extremely tough skin and never bruises, so I know that ride was not pleasant. The worst part was we paid around $350 for just day passes!!! Now as for the rest of the mall, it was amazing and was actually very busy, even with Covid restrictions. The ice rink was a blast, and the amusement park is right next to the entrance of the waterpark. It looked like it would have been a lot of fun, much more than the waterpark. We didn't do the slopes, but we watched, and it was amazing. The slope was no black diamond, but it was a very decent size. They also had the practice bunny hill. We ended up liking the mall so much, we went back to explore the rest of it, the next day. I would be at the mall all the time, if it were near me, in Ohio.

Wasn't the crash that wiped out the soviet pacific fleet command caused by them demanding bringing way too many personal effects onboard? Like luxury beds and huge rolls of paper that weren't secured and all that stuff that caused the engines to be way overtaxed and slow down like a Dovakiin that picked one too many flowers? Or am I thinking of a completely different crash that wiped out a bunch of soviet VIPs?

    • @Shawnchapp

yes, all the shit and extra passengers the higher ups demanded the pilot to load and bring causes the plane to be VERY overloaded it was the weight that caused the crash not the plane itself.

I remember all "The Line" talk. It wa upsetting that people actually thought the green energy was a good thing when people should know all green energy has a dark black underbelly of corruption. And when the line first broke ground, 6 people were murdered for terrorism for not moving. So 6 (maybe more) people died for a project that was corrupt and not even working.

Another factor to Concorde's failure was the skyrocketing of fuel costs in 70-80's. Also concorde burned fuel during takeoffs and landings, which would cost alot, so they made Concorde fly at subsonic speeds and that was the final nail to the coffin. I still love the aircraft and its uniqueness, such a legendary plane.❤❤❤

Not fair the way you treated the Concorde: the sonic waves can naturally happen outside populated areas, they do not just take off and acheive mach speeds immediately. Its main failure came from USA's new flight regulations, created just to kill Concorde's viability... Sales could have kept the project alive and in the crease. It was a beautiful bird.

Also something in regards to the TEB, if it had worked and people were using it, then it should have reduced the traffic making it obsolete.
Something that just getting busses and encouraging their use would already do at a fraction of their cost.
