A theory I’ve heard is that the four men David sent out attacked Joel and Ellie at the university so they could kill them and bring them back as food for their people, so attacking was following orders, they just didn’t anticipate Joel. People have even speculated that at the beginning when David says a couple of them spotted a deer earlier he’s actually referring to people again, that they’d just gone full cannibal at this point.
I feel really bad when Rizzo watches this. It stresses him out so much. Though I will say that I died laughing when the editing sped up during Ellie's stab-fest.
I think what hit me the hardest in episode 8 is that the only reason Ellie was able to grab the cleaver is because David let go of one of her arms to reach for his belt and unbuckle it :(
Bella is so frickin good in this episode- I mean, also in every episode, but the pure rage when she got that man was so so real and effected me so much. even now rewatching the scene I'm just like HIT HIM AGAIN HIT HIM FOR ME GIRL
As a survivor, this episode hit deep. The second I saw David I felt weird, I did not like him, he gave off THOSE vibes. And Joel calling her baby girl at the end, I fell apart 😩 Another amazing reaction!!!!!!!!! ❤
Every woman, LGBTQ person, and person who grew up in a toxic religious upbringing I've talked to clocked David being evil immediately. I nearly cried when Joel called Ellie "baby girl" like he used to call Sarah. He truly sees her as his daughter now. There's a brain disease you get from eating human meat. David doomed everyone in the community. David was an evil man who only cared about power and an easy-to-access pool of children to abuse.
@DariaElGrellPozina Nope. According to I believe Dr. Elliott McCarthy, a forensic psychiatrist here on RUclips, all human flesh can give you kuru. It's degenerative and fatal. The leaders sentenced those children to a painful death
This episode was so intense. Bella Ramsey killed it, what a fantastic actress. David was just a monster, I was so happy when Ellie killed him. She's probably so traumatized, almost got cut up and eaten, and then almost raped. She went through so much in just one episode. The ending with Joel saying, "It's okay, baby girl" made me cry so much. Like there is no going back that's his daughter and he will kill whoever he has to, to protect her. I love them so much!

Thank you, Rizzo for having exactly my insticts concerning David. My roomate was more on the trusting side and at first I couldn´t voice what it was that bugged me but after he told Ellie, he was a teacher and found faith after the apocalypse I put it together. Someone feeling weak, emancipated and gaining power after everything fell to chaos. Also, kudos to the actor. I had some experience with men like him (his role) and my insticts were just screaming....but that could only happened because the actor conveyed the twist in a subsconsious way before the reveal. The episode gutted me and I admire Ellies strength and will to survive.
So I've watched a lot of reactions of this episode (I like reaction videos ok!!!) and I remain surprised by how long it took most people to realize David&co were cannibals. I figured it out during the second scene - where David and James are talking about how much food they had... ten seconds after David tells Hannah they'll wait to bury her father. At least these two figured it out during the making stew scene. Some people didn't get it until Ellie literally screams "You're eating people!"

They did a great casting of David. The game version left an impact and it was a big shadow to step into. Also awesome to see Troy Baker!!! I love when remakes or adaptations show their love for the original work by letting the cast have a cameo!!
When my husband and I were watching this the 2 things that disturbed us the most is that David says he had a violent heart and that he used to be a teacher before the virus. I immediately knew that meant he was most likely physically to sexually violent to children because why would those two things exist together. The second was near the end when I was so focused on Ellie not being violated my husband pointed out how terrifying it must be that he was willing to do so in a burning building just to spite her. David is truly a sick individual
great reaction as always!! this was one of my favourite eps (despite the horrors of what ellie goes through) funny enough the writers had to make david being a p3do a lot more obvious because a lot of (male cough) game fans apparently didn't pick up on it and were arguing about his intentions. well they did a good job cus i felt even sicker watching this than i did playing the game! also all the added stuff about religion and cultism was very interesting, i loved that creepy nuance. onto the finale!!
Fun Fact (not really) : Troy Baker, Joel's voice actor in game, didn't belive that James was a ped0, it took both Nolan North (James voice actor) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie's voice actor) about an hour to convince him, apparently it was a lot more obvious in their original scripts but they had to tone it down a lot for a better rating and for CSA to be considered a trigger warning for the game
obviously no spoilers. but just please remember her trauma at the end of this episode when watching the next episode (if you haven't already). i've seen too many people confused about why she's acting the way she does in the next episode just because they already forgot the whole david ordeal. this was a significant moment in her life. I think this changed the core of who she is. she lost her innocence. there's no coming back from what she had to deal with.
Fun fact! The main "bad guy" (paedophilic church man) of this episode's right hand man (that Ellie brutally stabs with a cleaver) is played by Troy Baker, who voices Joel in the games!
I love with this episode it is so obvious they are cannibals, my parents were making so many cannibal jokes it was making me crack up so much😂 we kept emphasizing the word “venison” whenever we saw meat and wiggle our eyebrows at each other or wink. In the game it took awhile to find out. And to answer your question Rizzo, yes cannibalism is very bad health wise. The reason it’s safe to eat meat with animals is because our biology is incompatible with any diseases the animal might be carrying, at least most of the time. If you were to eat or feed something of the same species at best it’ll make you sick, but more likely at worst it’ll cause long term effects like making a pretty bad disease. Like with cows that’s how mad cow disease came into existence. So honestly if I was starving and had to choose between dirt or human meat, I’d pick dirt, no nutrition but it’ll buy me a little time. And yeah David is honestly so much more creepier in the show, they did a good job making my skin crawl a lot😨 anyway fun fact! The character James is the voice actor for Joel in the game, Troy Baker, so basically the original Joel. Lol I remember I basically screamed “JOEL!!” when I saw him and my parents gave me a look like I was crazy🤣

The first season depicts the entire first game. They made the first game a self-contained story since they had no way of knowing for certain that they would get to make a second. It ended up taking 7 years before part two was released... So I say, buckle up for the last episode because stuff is about to happen.

As a sensitive person with anxiety I feel with you Rizzo💕). I loved The Last of Us and I was so excited when I saw you were going to react to it. I originally watched the game on RUclips (aka pewdiepie back in the day) when it released. Have you considered playing the game? Or maybe react to highlights from the original game?😊
@@PinkPopcast haha me neither😂 You properly also would have to do a lot of video-editing I would imagine. There are just some scenes from the game that is different from the series. I would love to hear what you think of the changes as fellow film/tv-nerds😉💕
I'm surprised that no one in the comments has pointed out Troy in this episode! Troy Baker was Joel's voice actor in the game and he played James in the series! He's done an amazing job at both :)
I fucking need the "The Last of Us and Those who Remain are really Cool" DLC right the fuck now 😂!! Troy (James/ original Joel) said something like (paraphrasing): "it was nice to play human in the show, I thought I might be covered in fungus as an infected". I was remember thinking "my guy, as if they would hide the OG Joel." and I imagine every LoU gamer reacted with the same delight I did upon seeing Ashley and Troy! I love that you mention the way they've structured the episodes, becaue that's an interesting element that, to me, made the show translate so well from game to show! The game is very much like playing episodes, not just that it's divided in chapters, but the way you play events in sections, yet with a constant red thread. It keeps you constantly engaged and curious, simultanesouly with a purpose. I'm so happy the creation of this show ended up in the exact right hands! I want to replay the game so badly, but this part is making my blood boil. It's comforting to know Ellie will murder David, but still. Eugh.
You’re so funny Benji, the editing was great “if you don’t get up I’m gonna shoot you” 😂 this episode was intense, I can’t believe how many times y’all were still able to make me laugh during it 😂 Have a great week guys!! 💜
FYI - The man playing James is Troy Baker who is the original voice of Joel in the games - AKA the original Joel - among a ton of other well known roles in games and animations.
Oh watching this was stressful for the first time, but also watching your reaction, I could just feel the stress through the screen! Out of all the monsters on this show, I think David is one of the worst. Also the “buddy boy” guy being the original Joel’s actor I found a neat little meta thing. Like he tried to kill Ellie and then Ellie ultimately killed him. But in another life…he was the one calling her babygirl. I’m glad they had that instead of just giving him a one off background character. I think it adds a neat layer to it haha. And omg so close to the end now! I’ve really enjoyed watching you two react to this show and I’m so happy you both like Bella’s acting! They deserve so much praise for their talent!

OMG I am never here for the premieres! Just wanna say, I love your content❤️ You have helped me trough some hard times, as I love popculture and a good laugh (and you guys are so funny and sweet!
Maybe we could react to some of the game, we’re not big video game players… Yet😅
@@PinkPopcast haha me neither😂 You properly also would have to do a lot of video-editing I would imagine. There are just some scenes from the game that is different from the series. I would love to hear what you think of the changes as fellow film/tv-nerds😉💕
@@PinkPopcast that would be so cool!
I'm surprised that no one in the comments has pointed out Troy in this episode! Troy Baker was Joel's voice actor in the game and he played James in the series! He's done an amazing job at both :)
This episode was scarier than any of the others
Eugh.
When Joel called Ellie baby girl I CRIED SO HARD
You’re so funny Benji, the editing was great “if you don’t get up I’m gonna shoot you” 😂 this episode was intense, I can’t believe how many times y’all were still able to make me laugh during it 😂 Have a great week guys!! 💜
🥰🥰
12:43 I am VENGENCE
20:25 I'm so "special" 🤪
We are, the last of us.
Great video!
Cheers 🍻
Can't wait to watch this with you!!!
Rizzo is literally me watching this show
10/10 Just Friends reference👌🏻🤣
Fun fact, James is played by Troy Baker, the voice and MoCap actor for Joel in the games 😁
been waiting for you guys to watch this one!!!!!!
themes of cannibalism and sa both as forms of consuming someone/using someone.... ooof
😳😳
FYI - The man playing James is Troy Baker who is the original voice of Joel in the games - AKA the original Joel - among a ton of other well known roles in games and animations.
James (David's bestie) is Troy Baker who is Joel in the actual game
Omg 😂 I always love your reactions, the stabbing scene cracked me up 😅
y’all… NOT TASTY!!!
😅😅
19:53 the guy that's gets unalived he's the voice actor of Joel in the video game. And the next one is Ellie's video game voice actor.
Just discovered this channel, you guys seem so sweet, great video ❤
Thank you 😊
❤❤❤❤ thanks for the reaction, as always y’all make me laugh through the tough parts 😭 ❤❤❤❤ THE TARZAN REFERENCE ❤
🙌🙌😂
“oh no! not the Christians” had me wheezing XD
Accurate description of Pedro: Joel = Mando, just more stabby and brutal... 😧This episode was intense, for sure! But like others have commented here, when Joel calls Ellie "baby girl"... I got choked up when I first watched it and I STILL get choked up whenever I watch it. Pedro and Bella deserve ALL of the awards!!! ALL👏OF👏THEM👏👏👏👏👏

This episode is so heavy. Hard to watch it again, your comments make it lighter though. When I watched it for the first time it hit me really hard. Bella's acting is amazing
Re-watching this and realizing that David was a TEACHER!!!!! It just makes everything worse...
Right! 😫😫
OH MAN I Wanted to be here for the live on this one! I had to work I. The yard today! I cannot wait to see the reaction. TO THIS!!!!!!,
It’s all good! Hope the yard turned out how you wanted :))
5:24 THIS IS HILARIOUS
😂😂
10:39 - no overdose. Its an intramuscular injection. Put it right into a large muscle as local to the wound as possible. Directly into a raw wound is pretty hardcore though lol. She did good. Saved his life for sure
Yes!! Great job, this is why we love Ellie 👏👏👏
5:23 had me dying 😂😂
😂
Jesus these episodes are not easy on the ol heart
