      To be fair Rafe almost doubled crossed her when she wanted to leave with the treasure in the first place by paying her men more if you remember. Rafe was talking complete shit to her too despite her using shoreline to their advantage and he tried to play it off cool. If anything she played it smart when she left his ass to die on the island

      +UltimateDarkJak OH so what Rafe did, slapping her, then paying her men off to threaten her to come aboard the booby trapped ship, was what? I know. A brat. She was about to leave but SOMEONE decided to an entitled asshole who thinks he can do what he wants and screws over his partner

      J+UltimateDarkJak Jezz. There are those words again. Betrayal. Deserve. I don't think you know meanings of these in the context of Rafe. The only taking advantage i see is Rafe using the Drakes (He did'nt made ANY progress finding it on his own after Nate walked away, so he bailed out Sam AFTER 13 years for suffering for his crime of murder) to find the treasure for him. You know why Rafe doesn't deserve shit? The Drakes found it not him

    • @anon6235
      @anon6235 7 лет назад +24

      Ryan I mean they always do things and explore shit with ease, possibly because of luck. But rafe said his whole life he has been looking for avery's treasure, and that he did not want things hands to him again. He used manipulation and fear to get at he wanted, so in the end, he kinda did deserve it. But they are all thieves, so none of them deserved it

    What I like most about A Thief’s End is that there is no supernatural effect from the treasure..no smoke that turns people into zombies..no glowing ooze that superpowers humans and no “demon” locked in a vase....just a good old treasure hunting race between two men...this one really felt like playing an adventure film

    • @zx9203
      @zx9203 3 года назад +60

      Exactly, the supernatural stuff in the first Uncharted games was fun I admit, but it broke the immersion for me and were my least favorites as well. I prefer the realistic approach they took in A Thief’s End, the characters-even Rafe-felt more relatable and human too. One of the reasons why it’s the best Uncharted in my opinion.

    • @SteelBallRun1890
      @SteelBallRun1890 2 года назад +33

      @@alexmear5096 Most of the Uncharted "supernaturals" had some explanation to them and wasn't completely supernatural. El Dorado was a virus, Cintamani Stone was resin, the Djinn were just hallucinogenics.
      The most outlandish one is the resin since it actually makes people immortal, but the rest are just high fantasy science.
      UC4 may not have had "supernatural" enemies, but the game dangles the possibility in the player's face by suggesting it's ghosts, when in reality, it really was just traps laid by a very paranoid pirate who was long dead.

    What I find funny is that people don't get how deep the symbolism behind the St. Dismas Cross and the links between the characters.
    According to the Gospel of Luke, Jesus was crucified alongside two thieves. One thief, Gestas (the Impenitent thief) mocked Jesus for not being able to save himself. The other, Dismas (the Penitent thief) accepted his fate with grace asking if Jesus would remember him in paradise, but was later promised by Jesus that he would join him in heaven.
    Nate is a reference to Jesus Christ, as he is pinned against his own will, stuck between two worlds of family and the shackles of greed, ultimately entering paradise. (10:45)
    Sam is an allegorical reference of Saint Dismas, who accepts his fate gracefully, willing to let Nate go while he dies on Avery's ship. However Nate is able to save him and joins him in paradise (Escaping Libertalia). It really is highlighted in 9:45 .
    Rafe is a reference to Gestas, who constantly mocks Nate for teaming up with Sam, his inability to escape impending doom, and is very boastful about himself. His constant mockery would however prove to be his downfall (8:13).
    And that's not even talking about the treasure. I could write a whole thesis about that.
    The symbolism in this is mental.

    While I still preferred Uncharted 2, this was a fantastic game and one of the best endings to a franchise ever done. I wasn't there from the beginning, but I was always able to have a respect for it. When I got the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection, I deeply regretted not owning these games, cause these games, especially 2, was some of the best games I ever played. I loved the story, I loved the characters, etc. So when I finally played and beat this, even if I wasn't there since the beginning, I still felt like I've known these guys for all these years, and to have ND create the best sendoff for them, is something I applaud them greatly for.

    • @theinsurance2450
      @theinsurance2450 4 года назад +18

      Earn is not the same as deserved or worth it. Rafe is the dark shallow of both Nate and Sam. What all 3 have in common is they wanted to prove their greatness. That has always been the theme of this series. All villains of the series wanted to show the world of their "greatness". The 3 never wanted the money really. That was just a nice bonus. What they wanted was a feeling of accomplishing something by their own two hands. Accomplish something great, something amazing. That the world will admired them for achieving. Nate has done that time and time again. But always is left with this feeling of not enough. This why he ends his dangerous life for a more peaceful one. With a family. With true greatness. Sadly Sam and Rafe never got that chance of greatness. While Nate treasure findings throughout the years made Sam proud of Nate. Therefore making Sam want to even more so accomplish the same. It just grow Rafe's jealousy and frustration.
      The truth being is that Nate and Sam couldn't go as far without Rafe. But Rafe couldn't go as for without Nate and Sam. The 3 needed each other. Sam didn't trust Rafe. Back of his mind was fear that Rafe would either metaphorically or literally stab him in the back. Similarly like what Rafe did to that guard. That fear along with never have earn his "greatness". Is what push Sam to leave Rafe and find the treasure with his brother. Of course Rafe answer to kill them was a bit over exaggeration. You would think? That being said do you think if all 3 would have worked together from beginning. That Rafe would still have kill them the second they found the treasure. So he'll be the soul finder and get full credit. His character seem like he would do that.

It’s why I love this game the most and can’t go back to the others so easily, since the older games revolved around many of the clichés and cheesiness that’ve been so prevalent. This game at least took the story more seriously, and even then it’s not even to the same level of Last of Us. Yet people think more realism in dialogue (marital arguments, scenes of crying) make it an emo-fest. I hate the fan base sometimes. These are the same people that seriously want an Uncharted 5 after how much this game hyped itself up to be the last, and even wrote itself into a corner so that Nate’s story can’t be retconned in any way. For a conclusion, it did a damn good job, and still managed to make me give it a 10/10, even if not everything I wanted to see happened.

      - Nate in Cartagena (~13yo)
      - Nate, Sam and Rafe go to the prison, Sam 'dies' (~25yo)
      - Nate finds El Dorado (~33yo)
      - Nate finds Shambala (~35yo)
      - Nate finds Iram of the Pillars
      (~37yo)
      - Sam gets out of prison and meets up with Nate, Nate finds Libertalia (~40yo)
      - Epilogue (~53yo)
      And since Sully said in UC3 that Nate has thirty years on him, Sully is in his mid eighties during the epilogue.

      Sully in UC3 said that Nate has twenty-five years on him.
      Plus, in the UC3's flashback (20 years earlier), Nate was 15, as he said. That makes Nathan 35 (UC3), 33 (UC2), and 31 (UC1). Since Naughty Dog said UC4 takes place 3 years after UC3, Nathan is 38, and Sully 63. When Sam and Nate break into Evelyn's house and change name, they were like 14 or 13. And during the epilogue, Sully is 76 years old at least!

    I cried watching this. Can’t believe it’s over. Nate is one of the best characters in the Uncharted series and sad to see his adventure and journey come to an end. Also, Nate’s brother Sam, is an awesome brother to him. Nate, Sully, and Elena will always have a special place in my heart from these games
