It can be worth playing around with your guitar's inbuilt volume/tone controls and/or pickup configurations. Sadly the game doesn't always like when you do that and it will cause you to 'miss' notes due to your guitar having lower/muddier volume output. But if you care about sound quality give it a try. :)
You can also lower/raise your guitar/bass volume in comparison to the backing track ect in the mixer.
