This really just goes to show how determined Undyne was to kill you, she didn't even need an injection from an outside source to transform to begin with. She definitely would have won if the human didn't have the power of reset and load.
I remenber a théorie that Saïd that undyne's détermination Comes from chara's soul because in her date she say's that her and asgore drink golden flower tea and if the golden flower Come from the garden where asriel and chara died then the DT might be there (Not fully sure)
Thats easier to do then you'd expect, expecially when source material provides a solid exit instead of entrance. We knew how it is supposed to end, Yellow Soul ain't got a body in UT. But you can answer the question of "what happened?" And as long as it ends with what we know it can easily lead into the established world. Giving players a chance to *break that cycle* and see what could have been was amazing.
You don’t “Absorb” Exp. Like LOVE, It’s just a measurement of someone’s capacity to hurt. That’s why Clover’s LOVE rose on its own in the Axis fight. Execution Points can’t be gained in ways other than just killing people, but LOVE can. Also, HP increases because your SOUL distances from your body, and the damage taken is done more to either the SOUL or body directly rather than upon both simultaneously. (At least, that’s my theory)
Little fun fact:The reason why Zenith Martlet and Undyne turn to dust after melting is most likely due to know monsters to fuse with In true lab the amalgamates are monsters fused together due to the monsters not being able to withstand the determination thus they mept and fuse together to survive and with no monsters to fuse with Undyne and Zenith Martlet turn to dust because they can't withstand the determination and the low hp so they turn to dust
I think it’s a mix of both. It seems out of place to have her inject herself with determination narrative wise, but it’s determination is no doubt involved. Here’s my theory: It could be that what happens is Martlet injects herself with the faulty serum, but it temporarily works because of her own determination. However, in the battle, Martlet talks about how whatever she did to herself is wearing off and she doesn’t understand why. It’s the determination. What allowed her to survive the Boss Monster Serum is now burning through it. That’s why as she melts at the end, her colors return to normal and her body begins to resemble her normal self before fully melting and dying.
This could mean that determination works differently for boss monsters than normal monsters, because both types get revived but for normal monsters they melt after revival. But for boss monsters they resist melting until they get defeated again and then they melt but they also still turn into dust.
Also worth mentioning that, like Undyne, Martlet doesn't become an amalgamate towards the end of her fight, and instead barely has the time to melt before turning to dust. Why did the other monsters become amalgamates but Martlet and Undyne died?
My theory is that martlet and undyne could handle the determination, But us killing them made the determination do its thing, but the body is in such bad shape and 0 hp that it just dies, not falling down or anything.
Undyne was using her own determination which gave her the power to keep her body together long enough to try to kill you and she was also probably trying to not melt being able to use the determination as a sort of glue to hold on and Martlet she was alive so she was probably able to resist her body melting better than the amalgamates that probably started melting before they were revived
The Amalgamates survived because they merged together. In doing so they create a new monster soul and thier body stabilizes itself - ofc the trade of is both thier physical and mental identity is a jumbled mess.
Soul-merging is also the reason Asriel didnt just immediately melt into a puddle from Chara's determination. The other work around is ofc Sans - he can handle determination without issues because he is already human - just an undead one.
I feel like it was because Clover when he met up with flowey for the last time has LV20, considering that, In Undertale, that’s deemed as the ABSOLUTE. And since Flowey hasn’t *actively* killed anyone, he’s most likely LV1, but he just has DETERMINATION stronger until the very end. But since LV20 is the “absolute”, Clover had beyond what Flowey had.
I love how determination works across the whole canon franchise and how this game portrayed it so well, like with Undyne if you kill her she melts because of her determination aswell
Isn't she a boss monster already? Giving a boss monster a serum that turns them into a boss monster probably overwhelmed her soul which caused her to fall down.
I think that it was still the faulty serum/ integrity from the blue soul and maybe martlet was able to handle the serum temporarily because she had determination of her own or it only instakilled kanako cause she was a child
If you think about it the endings show you are a heartless person destroying any on in your sight mean while the other ending is your soul being pure you hurt nobody you spare Dalv because he attacked by accident your pure you have true heart you don’t fight you carry on flow respects that you are a true clover…

Ooooohhh, I didn’t- think.. about that. I kinda just accepted the fact that Clover gets control of the time line, never thought about the fact that you kill da bird in the same run.
Not to mention in the phase 2 fight the monolouge says "Fallen Down" which means she was beyond saving at that point, just like the amalgamates in the True Lab
What if the injection was still blue soul but Martlet is just more able to withstand the soul's determination 1(maybe): the armor (which is why she melts after the armor is broken) 2: Martlet isn't a literal child.
Determination doesn't work like that, It's not a Wifi, Bluetooth connection. You either generate it yourself or inject it manually. Clover just got more determined to finish the mission. Possibly Player giving their own determination too. Beceasue Both knew that Flowey could undo all their progress. The same way, their LVL increased when Axis revelead they killed a human. Clover and possibly Player, simply grew more angry, merciless
I thought that LV/XP was separate from determination but yeah you might be right here. Determination possibly can't be absorbed like XP. Maybe that last level earned from Zenith Martlet was enough to give Clover more detmination than Flowey had? Idk for sure tbh
@@GaroShadowscale LVL makes you soul stronger. It makes it easier to hurt others, while also making it harder for you to get hurt. It's anger, killing intent, bloodlust. I think, Determination can affect LVL, and make it bigger. I'd guess Boss Monsters are so strong, they can take Determination from human souls without dying (instantly). Also the case for Asgore, which was told by Toriel, that he could've saved the monsters with just one soul. He could've left the barrier and get enough souls to destroy the barrier. This is kind of funny actually… The theory of where Undyne gets her determination is the “pink ice cream” in Alphys’ lab. Since she feeds it to undyne, and it’s made of seaweed which is “scientifically important” according to her phone call. Now where do we find the ballet shoes? In the seaweed grass in waterfall. The theory goes that it absorbed the determination leftover from where the blue soul was killed, which activated once she had some determination of her own. It explains why she melts in the neutral run, and why she turns into undying in the genocide run. So all of that basically means: Martlet didn’t get her determination from the blue soul, she got it from the blue soul
If we go from everything explained in OG undertale and we take the fact she has the syringe from the true lab, the most likely implicates "determination" as content.
maybe it was the serum from the basement after all. but it had a better effect on Martlet because of her great determination to fight. Because of her great determination, the soul did not immediately begin to crack, but a special determination made martlet a boss-monster. most likely, sooner or later Martlet would also have died, even if she had won, her determination to fight would have faded, and the introduced determination would have gone out of control and melted her. As for me, a monster can withstand determination either if it has a human soul strong enough to restrain determination, or it is a strong enough monster with a lot of determination of its own. but unlike humans, the monster's determination fades easily, and in the end, a monster without a human soul is doomed to melt and become dust. That's exactly what I think is happening. as a result of the damage caused, Martlet lost her will to fight, her soul weakened, and she began to melt, and when the injected determination ran out completely, her body turned from a liquid state to dust again And Undine has a scientist friend. And maybe she wanted to keep Undine safe and somehow gave her a small amount of determination, knowing that she was a determined and strong enough monster to contain this power. Monsters can be determined, but they don't have their own determination as a power or as part of their soul and body , only humans have that. but Martlet is still cool. And she's cute, so killing her in genocide is very hard mentally.
All monster's souls look like an inverted heart by default, I'm pretty sure it's just by coincidence that it matches with the yellow soul when it shoots.
