Green crabs would make good fertilizer. Crab meal is a thing for home gardens. You can also eliminate bag limits in areas they are not native, and use them for fish bait. Just a thought.

Depends on the area, but bag limits are not a thing for green crabs. In some areas such as Washington, you’re encouraged to report sightings but leave the crabs, because not all European green crabs are green, and native kelp crabs, shore crabs, and juveniles of larger crabs can look similar. However, you can keep and kill as many as you want, but the responsibility to identify them properly is on you, and if you’re wrong you will be fined.

I have seen them used for fish bate on charter boats in Niantic CT before. The fisherman literally cut them in half with scissors and put them on the hook. I caught several black fish with the crabs as bait this way. This was about 2 years ago.

That’s a great idea but it would have to be only males for bait to cut the chance of eggs getting out there
All should be ground to pulp and dried and could probably be used for certain animal feeds as well

I live in a place where the green crabs are native and I must say, they are delicious! Boil them with some salt, hot sauce and bay leaf and you'll see. Also, the ones that are molting have a soft shell inside, they are used here as bait for fishing.

crab sticks/imitation crab (surimi) is actually made of fish, not crab. it's extremely impractical to process crabs in a way a product like that would be manufactured. look how small they are also, the amount of meat per crab is abysmal with these you really have to find them when they're moulted so you can eat them soft but like the video said.. their shells harden particularly fast, so this is also probably very impractical

Green crabs are being eaten already. In fact they have been a part of Spanish and Italian cuisine for a good while but outside of this region green crabs have poor reputation and often viewed as lesser-quality products. And even though those are being introduced into cuisine in some USA regions as a substitute for Blue crabs, the idea of "sea cockroaches" remains strong and there aren't enough consumers to make harvesting and processing those crabs economically viable on many occasions. And even if we would be eating them we simply can't outcompete them. Invasive species are known for being able to reproduce quickly.

Hi, there is no $5 bounty on green crabs in Washington state at the present time. From Washington dept. of Fish and Wildlife "If you find a suspected European green crab or its shell in Washington, take photos and report it as soon as possible using the form on the European green crab identification and information page. Review WDFW's crab identification guide (PDF), and take pictures to confirm identification. At this time, we are not asking the public to kill suspected green crabs. This may sound counterintuitive but is intended to protect native crabs from cases of mistaken identity. As a Prohibited species, it is illegal to possess a live European green crab in Washington."

They are native to Europe and North Africa, but have been a threat to the Atlantic Coast since the 1800s and have recently been found in Alaska. Green crabs are damaging to marine habitats and ecosystems in several ways
