    I had the airbag light suddenly turn on in my 2007 Ford Focus. When I would start the car, the airbag light would turn on and then turn off for about two seconds, and then it would turn on again and stay on while the engine was running. I have a lot of tools, but I didn't have a scanner that would read airbag codes. I followed the instructions in this video and put dielectric grease in the airbag connector. I also put dielectric grease in the electrical connectors that are under the front seats. I put everything back together and started up the engine. And...... No more airbag light! Thanks so much!

    You simply deserve a medal!!
    I fix lots of things on our cars and yet I have never felt the urge to mess with the airbag on any of them. The airbag light started coming on intermittently on our 2005 Focus about two years ago and eventually just stayed on all the time. I was about ready to take it to the shop when I came across your youtube video and decided to go for it. Bought contact cleaner and dielectric grease and 30 minutes later the problem was solved!
    Thank you so much!!!

    I used a 7/32" deep drive socket for the steering wheel bolts, and Super Lube for dielectric grease. Light went out! Let's see how this goes.
    Thanks for taking the time to post this most excellent and helpful video!

    You are a genius! Not only that, you (through this video) taught my mechanics how
    to fix my airbag the easy way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I insisted they try your method first, and it worked.
    The ZWX steering column has extra moldings that I would not be able to handle.
    It only cost me a 1/2 Labor for my 2005 F.F ZWX Wagon!!!!!

    I'm so glad I found this video after a B2232 code appeared suddenly in my 2005 Focus ZXW. The fix worked perfectly. The most time-consuming part was getting the damned yellow connector to unplug (after a few years they always seem to stick, even with the release tab pressed).

      I'm guessing they couldn't not find why they were getting a break in the connection code. Rather than follow the line and find it they suggested to replace the whole air bag and anything connected to the system.

    I did not think the repair would work for me car. My car had deer damage and parking lot damage. I tried the repair and worked! Thank you very much! Though I did try and clean the pins a bit before the grease. I also slightly bent them for better contact.

  • @petestanton1945
    @petestanton1945 6 месяцев назад +2

    Why does dielectric grease help? It's non-conductive. Is the problem lack of conductivity in the connecter, due to corrosion from old age? If so, contact cleaner like DeOxit would be better. Maybe this repair works bc you're cleaning the pins by just unplugging them & plugging them back in, idk

    Good video. Information that i needed. Light on my car keeps coming on after i honk the horn but goes off after i restart the engine. Only tging i have to say is your editing was off by a little bit. You disconnected tge battery to make the repair but when to show putting the airbag back on the orn goes off. Wouldnt honk if tge battery was disconnected.
    Follow up on this comment. Took your video and fixed my Focus. Just in time to get the safety inspection. Light hasnt come back on so that was the fix it needed. Thank you so much. Videos like these help us fix our vehicles with out spending lots of time trying to figure out the problem and how to fix it. Little things like the correct sockets and other tools makes it super fast to do repairs so thank you very much.

    Correction: It turns out I was using the wrong wrench socket size. I was using 6mm and switched to 7/32" and it worked like a charm. Airbag light is off now. Thanks!

    Very nice video. My fiancé's son has a 2008 Ford Focus with two airbag codes. B2296-20 and B2434-E0. The first one is for an impact sensor error and the second one is for a driver's seat buckle switch circuit short to ground. I'm not sure where the first code is referring to unless it's referring to the sensor behind the grill in front. The second one is pretty self explanatory but I couldn't find much info online about either code. I've never worked on airbag stuff before so I'm a little leery about even trying. I know to disconnect the battery before messing with anything but that is about all. Any tips on addressing these two codes?

    Thanks so much for this video! I have a 2005 Ford focus that I bought in 2008 with about 50K miles. The airbag light came on at about 65K miles and I was told I needed to replace the clock spring. Same thing happened at about 120K miles so I replaced it again. The third time the airbag light came on I did not bother replacing it. It now has 325K miles. I came across your video yesterday and today I went out and bought some dielectric grease and a 5.5 mm socket. 30 minutes later I was done and the airbag light was off just as you said it would be! I should have done this a long time ago…I hope the light will stay off as I drive around tomorrow and the days afterwards.

    • @scottbrainard5751
      @scottbrainard5751 7 лет назад

      Just curious. Assuming no other issues other than the airbag light is on due to lack of dielectric grease, would the airbag have functioned as designed in case of an accident? Or is it disabled if the light is on?
      And, now that it has the grease and the light is off, is it safe to assume it will work as designed?
      Thanks!

    Well, didn't need another big bill fixing up a wrecked 05 Ford Focus ZX3. Had an air bag light on, checked all the fuses but didn't want to spend alot to fix the problem. Googled the issue and this came up on You Tube. Did the procedure as he describes and wala, no more air bag light. This might not have been the trouble but other than time there was no cost to me. Try this first before you spend big bucks getting some garage to charge you $90.00/hr for diagnosis and if it's not a Ford garage they may not even know about the TSB, technical service bulletin, from Ford.

    I took my '06 focus into the dealership, suspecting i have this problem, but am not comfortable working on my airbags myself. They said I had to replace my airbag module before they could run more tests and find out what else was wrong. Although he said they tested this I don’t believe him 1) Because he wasn't the person that worked on my car and 2)Later in the conversation thought I had a red pickup.
    Is there any way to test this? Is it just a coincidence KCarubia was also told to replace their airbag module?
    I would love to get some advice before I spend $1000+ on this.

      Sophie Aubrey Never seen one go bad ever. Lets just put it this way airbags are made to such strict quality standards we only change them after a crash that is how reliable they are. Perform what I show first and go from there it is very easy just follow my steps and make sure the battery is disconnected and isolated for 10 minutes or more before working on it.

    How come you were able to actuate the horn with the battery disconnected? By the way, excellent advise about leaving the airbag face up when working. That is the proper way to handle these modules. Was the airbag light flashing or stayed solid on?

      It flashes the code at first then goes solid. I was able to honk the horn because I have gotten complacent around airbags and don't disconnect the battery negative for most airbag work, but it is not the safe way so I don't advertise that fact.

    I've got confusion. 2006 Focus with a B2234 code. I've done the grease in the connector twice and the code remains. Is there differences in electric grease? Could there be a different issue?

      Michael Hensley Yes yours has a resistance that is too low and not too high, I would stop right there and take it to the dealer.

    This worked for my 2007 Focus ST, but once I hooked the battery back up the horn won't work. It makes a clicking noise which sounds like its coming from right behind the instrument gauge

    Hello! I´ve just finished reading all the people you have helped with this pro video being honest at all. I have a 2002 focus and have 2 problems(can´t get the codes): my horn isn´t working and my airbag light doesn´t appears when I turn on power neither start engine. Can I try this method? When an Airbag is disconnected the light should remain off? Thank you very much for your appreciated help.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Abraham Romo Horn is likely the horn itself they get corroded over time from the location they are at. When you turn the key on the airbag light never comes on for a few seconds to prove out and no beeping from cluster area?

    • @arnaldocanales660
      @arnaldocanales660 10 лет назад

      FordTechMakuloco Understood, regarding the airbag light, answer is no, whenever I put the key and turn it just to give power it never comes on for few seconds neither when I start engine. There is no beeping from cluster area this is a used vehicle I bought, I´m guessing maybe someone deactivated the airbag light or in the worst case it doesn´t have anymore an airbag..

      +jimmymac yup I have gotten complacent working on airbag systems over the years. So yes the battery was disconnected but the key was off.

    I have a 2006 Focus ST and drive it hard occasionally (ok daily). While pushing it, this light comes on. Goes away after start up. Does it sound like a clock spring or the connector? Which electrolytic stuff did you use?

    • @RobertNuno
      @RobertNuno 10 лет назад

      Actually, you said XG12 (Motorcraft). Is there an equivalent to something at an auto parts store.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      I would do what I did in the video first. Get the codes read if you can. I use Motorcraft XG-12 Electrical Grease

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Robert Nuno Yes there should be as long as it says electrical grease and is thin like in the video. Not the brake dielectric grease they sell.

    • @RobertNuno

      The code is B2232.

    The light was intermittent. It would come on after a few km, and go out when the vehicle was switch off. Then come on again after a few km of driving, now it's on constantly. Where in the 2010 fusion are these connectors located, do I have to remove the passanger air bag, if so any tip?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      If you lower the glove box you should be able to access the connectors on the backside, make sure it is depowered first.

    I have a air bag light illuminated in the dash of a 2010 ford fusion. I scanned it and got a B0028 code. "passenger side air bag deployment control. what do you recommend as a fix to this problem?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 лет назад

      Did this just occur out of nowhere? I would disconnect the 2 connectors on the passenger airbag and reconnect most of the time that is all they need to clean them. Of course make sure you depower the system first.

      No nothing common. I don't suggest you touch airbag systems unless it is something simple like what is shown in the video.

      Worked beautifully! I felt like MacGuyver disconnecting the airbag, but after the assembly, everything worked beautifully!
      Oh and you don't need that fancy XG12 di-electric grease, I had a tube of XG3 and it worked just fine :)

    This trick worked for my 2007 Focus! Did not have time to do myself so took to dealer to check out. Dealer wanted to put in a new airbag for $1000+ dollars. Made him try this and light has stayed off, no problems.
