It never used to be quite this bad, but I think the preponderance of OP premium tanks, bond equipment and gold spam now makes grinding out a line a lot harder than it used to be 5 or 6 years ago. The game itself in its entirety is extremely Anti-F2P friendly since WG mainly consider the paying part of the community which are the minority but disregard the majority of players who are F2P who just pad the player count. The paid battlepass and Pay to win premium tanks are some of the blatant disgusting reminders of how P2W the game is and shows how divided the player base is. The benefits you get from the paid battlepass alone gives you a MAJOR advantage over the F2P player with all those additional bounty equipment, training manuals, extra bonds, etc.
    Yeah sure it's a "skill based" game at the end of the day but the argument doesn't really hold much weight when you see the "better players" having all the good equipment (bounty/bond - Sure some F2P players have this but that's rare), premium time and consumables, powerful premium tanks to give them that edge over others.
    Those who still actively defend the game for what it is needs a reality check.

    To be fair, I've played the game casually for five years, mostly having played or at least *tried to* play competitively for the first year or so, and then realizing it really isn't worth my time/effort that i have so little of, even now. It has been really fun watching all the content you put out however, and at certain times I feel like playing that way myself, but then again, I'm quite busy already trying to study and handle life at the same time.
    I've recently started playing WoT Blitz, and tbh, I like the Tier 10 there better than here, balancing and what not. But what Blitz fails to give me are some of those nostalgic moments that I first had back in 2016, sitting in the comforts of my home and platooning with my friends and so on. You have time and again, made me come back to the game, and recently, I've had some fun by being able to actually pay and buy premium tanks, and I must say thank you for bringing me back, time and again to play this game, which I despise and adore at the same time :D

    Okay, one things I would critizise: Even a free-to-play player should always be able to mount an automatic fire extinguisher.
    You don't really *need* it that often, and I would wager that running automatic fire extinguishers actually SAVES you money in the long run. You get them for free reasonably often, your fire chance is reduced by 10% anyway & no human reflex is faster. The result: Either lowering your repair costs and/or keeping you in the fight longer, allowing you to earn more money & XP. So, I will NOT accept the price difference as a reason to not run it.
    Other than that, you're right, and it's true for the Large Repair Kits and Med Kits.

      yeah I have like 500 of them in my garage, keeping them because what if WG stops giving them away ? Btw over the years I may have spent around 150€ on WoT, so I don't know if I'm really p2w or f2P, I'd say I'm between the two at least)

    • @lucidnonsense942
      @lucidnonsense942 2 года назад +2

      Sell them and buy premium consumables, they will give you far more advantage than any fire extinguisher. You'll be able to engage tanks faster, get follow on shots faster and you'll be detected later. Fire extinguishers are there so it's not too obvious that you don't have an empty slot and get salty that you are at a huge disadvantage.
      Sell the extinguishers when they are at full price, buy consumables when they are 50% off. You get 1 for 1 swap of something useless for something that makes you competitive.

    • @DGARedRaven
      @DGARedRaven 2 года назад +17

      @@lucidnonsense942 If you really think they're useless, you have NEVER played Soviet tanks. Or are at a level at which point your crew has good firefighting skills.
      And you are still missing the point... rations are used up after a battle. Large fire extinguishers are not, unless triggered. Meaning that they are far more cost effective, given that your average player isn't good enough to get the full use out of rations anyway.

      Considering how rare it is to get put on fire. (ammo rack being the least normal thing to go boom) Using the normal fire extinguisher is good enough. Really rebind one of the slots to F key and at worst you lose 300damage, that is if you have any reflexes and game sense to notice the fire as you get hit..
      So used to hitting F when I notice I'm on fire. Really 10 000 credits is 7 500 wasted to save 200hp. That is RNG at tie 9-10. You get hit for 1100damage or 800. The fire damage is nothing when being F2P. The 10% advantage the enemy has is so much higher then a random ones in a while fire... F2P players should stay away from tier 10 as much as possible. And make sure to focus on tanks with good standard pen. And take gold rounds on tanks that it makes sense to use them. (330MM heat at tier 8 is really nice to have)
      So dam used to dab the 5 key to repair my tracks. 5 and 2 combo to repair my ammo rack. But F (used in many games) at worst adds 1 or 3 ticks of extra damage vs "automatic" crap costing 10 000 credits. That is like 4 missed shots! The "RNG" tax is high enough. I rather get a return on 3 or so shots then not having to press F ones every few games.

    T54E1 when it was a medium and with the old top gun was just spamming gold rounds left right and center just to even be competitive back then. After I got the T57 Heavy, I just sold the E1 because it was just not viable to play without a decent chunk of your ammo reserve being gold ammo.
    I think ever since it got change into a HT, they did change the gun's penetration value of both base and gold ammo which is a great change. Before this, I would never recommend anyone keeping the tank with its old top gun because it's a pain in the ass to even play it.

    I've been playing for 7 years started when 13 and have been f2p until this year (got adult money now lol) and the biggest challenge for me was credit income. Even for a decent player with 2800wn8 credits were hard to come by so that actually pushed me to become a light tank main and my only tier 10 being the obj140 (since i did very well in it almost every game = break even on credits). Regarding food/equipment I still don't think they're essential unless ur in a competitive match, going for Moes or your in a borrasque(I can't play that without food).

      @Daeki Ne I'd say the French amx Lt line and the Soviet Lt lines are the place to be for starters. The Soviet one in particular might be more forgiving of mistakes since they do have a bit of armor meaning you can get lucky bounces while the amx would definitely suit the hit and run style of Lts due to the autoloaders. In terms of advice I don't really know what to say besides remember u have a gun so use it when you can, play to your strengths (mobility n camo), and try to conserve HP until the end game. Honestly most of it is game knowledge so you'll get the hang of it the more you play. If you're looking for a lowerish tier Lt to try out first I'd maybe suggest the t71 da it's quite frankly pretty darn epic and fun. Cheers:)

    I'm so grateful that you said something about the people that are bombing around in their op tanks thinking that they are king shit and they most likely aren't. I have lost track of the times that I received a message from someone after they killed me in the game saying "get gud scrub" yet they are in said op tank. A few times I was able to 1 v 1 the people that sent a message like that and crushed them. Your point about the absurdity of not being able to research field mods before grinding the next tank is so on point
    As a returning old player, it makes no sense to me that the biggest grind I do on the tank I need to do it at it's 'stock field mod' state. Like why...? What's the reasoning for that
    When you finally unlock the field mods, there is no reason to play the tank unless you really really want to play the tank.

    Just to talk on the effectiveness of the T54E1. I find that when I play mine the armor just doesnt exist. When I first started playing about 8 years ago I remember people saying how good the turret armor is on the vehicle but now it just feels like it has none. I will constantly get people going through the turret front with no problem. Not even using gold rounds (though some of them do). It feels like an even larger clunkier version of the Chi-Ri. Although that burst potential is truly something special.

    I have played the game on an off for 7 years. The biggest issue with WoT is their business model. At least in NA, people spend lots of money on f2p games, but that is spent on cosmetics mostly. WoT expects you to spend outrages amounts of money to even stay competitive. While most MMOs have a monthly cost, you get the full game and can only purchase cosmetics. Most of the games played in WoT are vs premium vehicles that are better than most in game line tanks. Those premium tanks aren’t available by playing the game, and their prices are that of full priced games. I’m mostly talking to the wind here, but if the game had a better business model, it would have had the ability to compete vs CoD and or Battlefield on player numbers.

    I used to enjoy the game by the time the video tutorials were made by Wargaming for T32 vs Tiger and IS-3 (maybe 2013?). Each had strong points and weak points and you had to make the best of it. That was what I enjoyed about the game. Sure one would use occasionally a premium round in special situations. Now there are so many perks to consider and buy. All kind of autoloaders roam the battlefield - some have a clip, some have double shots, some have a hybrid loading mechanism. Once in a while a new OP line is introduced. After the armor buff is seems that it is a prem rounds frenzy. Even you feature games of players having good games while shooting mostly premium rounds. "Oh, it's an armored tank, I will switch to gold to be competitive". I used to enjoy taking advantage of game mechanics (searching for weak spots, angling the tank, wiggling the hull) and not game economy.

Man, this tank is a fun-beast compared to all the other non-meta tanks I’ve been grinding for over years just to get to tier 8 or 9 at max. (Still not owning any t10 tank but that’s due to the variety I am playing). But something like a stock-centurion 7/1 is just cruel to grind for free… 29% winrate in the last 60 games even tho I am a 52% player.. Well, I think the p2w aspect is why I mostly prefer other games over wot and only come back every once in a while.

    I am not a regular player and I spend a set amount on the game from time to time. Mostly I buy gold, but sometimes I will buy a premium account for something like 14 days.
    I have to say that I have learned a lot from your channel over the years, so please keep it going! Your videos about the consumables have been of immense help, especially what to use with what to get that edge! I have never bought a single premium consumable such as fire extinguishers. Those I have all won via the game when WG have some sort of event. The non-premium consumables I buy when they are on special, but then I buy like a 100 of them at a time! Also, a tip from your channel I believe!
    Yes, the premium tanks are a pain, especially when you shoot gold at them, and you cannot even damage them! Some of them is a nightmare to fight against; completely overpowered, but if you work with your team and just spot and track them, then someone on your team who has a more powerful tank can hopefully kill the nightmare! WOT's are probably play to win and unfair, but that is life; GET USED TO IT!

  • @miked6
    @miked6 2 года назад

    Hey QB…thanks for vids. I believe your thoughts on field mods or researching up would help. I think the problem is helping lower winrate and new players. We want to get people to join and stay playing. I think one the answer is limiting gold rounds based on tier matching and skill(win rate). The other way frequently discussed is just limit damage, but then lower tier match tanks have an even greater disadvantage. Tier 6 tanks will really struggle if trying to kill a defender with lower damage. So, I’d keep current mechanics and let computer calculate and display. You could round up for clip tanks, but autoloaders would not get the rounding. Player just selects how many HE rounds and computer calcs and displays. Then the allowable amount is modified based on win rate (to help lower players) and maybe even credit mod for lower win rate players to also help.
    Example same tier (top tier) base is 30% gold rounds (just as with any stat computer will calculate and display options, you could choose no gold rounds). One tier down max 50% gold rounds and 2 tiers down 75% gold. Then each of these is modified by win rate. For each point over 50% you loose 2.5% and for every point under 50% you gain 5% rounds. You can set lower limits. So experience player 53% at tier 10 will start 30%, but loose 7.5% to a base of lower limit 25%. A player at 47% winrate in same tier ten tank would get 30% base + 15%=45% allowable gold. So better players need to use more skill and less gold. Throw wargaming a bone, premium tanks or monthly accounts get 2.5% bonus, and maybe even loader skill at 2.5%.
    Just limit “skilled” players from just spamming gold and give players who are less skilled a chance. We need people to stay and play…..Thx from NA

    i played this game in 2011,2013, 2017 and this year (4 out off 10). as a FTP i want to add other big issues. first off all a FTP have a limited space in garage. that means you have to constantly sale small tier tanks to make space for the higher ones. and when you get close for that Tier X you wanted so mutch, you realise that you need the small tiers that you sell to make some coins to actualy have a chance to buy one. and this is the part were the developers have their fun with FTP, becouse afther you grind hard your way , they nurff so bad that tier X that you went for untill they forces you to press the uninstall button :) it happened to me with E100 & IS7.

  • @warcrafthumanlord
    @warcrafthumanlord 2 года назад

    To be honest I agree with QB, for example I started grinding the object 430U a few years back when it was the best medium tank, in the meantime you got italian auto-reloaders, the object 140 got better... and now I don't even play it.
    Also It took me years of grinding to get to tanks that I actually enjoy the play-style, that's my biggest pet peeve with world of tanks. And that is that most lower tech tree tanks either play nothing like the higher tier ones and therefore you can't even know if you like the playstyle until you invested tens or hundreds of hours into grinding or are just downright a masochistic experience to sit through. And even if you get to that point where you get that good tank, you still need a lot of time and hundreds of thousands of experience just to get that top gun, or tracks or something else which actually makes the tank special... (you know what I mean, a tier IX tank with a stock tier 6 or tier 5 gun with 170 pen or less...).
    I have tanks that I detest now and feel like they are crap not necessarily because they truly are but mostly because I had to play them for a long time to progress and the stock grind was extremely punishing. I feel like this is somewhat patched with new tech tree tanks (for example the double barrel tanks weren't that bad) but the higher russian mediums, or british TD's, heavy tanks...
    And worst still, most of the stock guns are only viable if you load only gold rounds (more expensive ones) and if you don't you can't pen, which means you can't kill your opponent, which means you die early, which means you loose silver on repairs and don't get any XP bc you didn't live long enough to make an impact which ultimately leads to having a negative economy and negative win rate which then forces you to play your premium tanks, but wait, you don't have premium tanks, but wait, you can buy premium tanks for bonds, but wait, you can only get bonds on tier X, which you need to grind, but you need credits...
    All in all it's a very well oiled machine, and even though I commend QB for playing his free to play account, I still think that the biggest advantage he has is the opportunity to try out any tank he wants and then decide on his limited f2p if it's worth it or not. Wargaming, if you can put trial periods on premium tanks, put trial periods on tech tree tanks, you have the vs AI maps, use them, you don't have to offer every tank there is, give players a chance to try the most iconic top tree tanks, take them for a spin, so they can see if they are actually worth grinding and suffering for...

      I mean they occasionally do this with 'rentals', though this is very sporadic and of course they're always premiums, so the insight you get from playing them for 20 battles or whatever is limited. Obviously WG's intention with the rentals is to entice u to buy; maybe they've finally given up on me as it's 4 years straight F2P.

    I've been playing the game for 9 years (with a 3 yr break in the middle) and last week was the first time I ever spent money on the game. I must also mention that I received a gift of some gold from a clanmate when I had been playing for about a year. I used it with extreme frugality and extremely gradually (pretty sure I still haven't spent all of it) to buy extra garage/barracks slots when on sale and a small collection of tier 3/5 premium tanks for crew training. It wasn't until this fall that I was able to purchase my first two tier 8 premium tanks using bonds. I've done the grinds to earn additional tier 5/6 premium tanks for free (TOG).
    As a (mostly) ftp player I have just accepted that I need to use good tactics/positioning in order to damage some vehicles without using gold rounds. I try to make sure I use what resources I have wisely.

I went up the tech tree and found the Tortoise, learned how good it was, and started: A. grinding in the AT15 (not nice) B.saving up special crew for it C. Bought equipment at half-price for it D. I guess I still have the mentality of the old days. I get that grinding sucks, but it always has. However, they've added so many things to help you grind. More events that have x5 exp, exp boosters, and on track missions. It used to be brutal. I was looking back at my early days of playing and realized it would take over 100 games to get out of a tier 6 (granted I probably sucked back then). Now it takes 20-30 without premium. I still think that this game has gone too far with the premiums, but you can streamline your grinding to make it not too horrible. Completely agree that it's stupid you have to elite the tank first before field mods, though.

    I have a great example of why people think the game is out to get them sometimes.
    Today I was in my Centurion 7/1 on Himmelsdorf, I was top tier. I had a 54% WR in the Cent up until two days ago when I got 14 losses in a row. 52% now, and I'm completely F2P.
    Anyway, literally every shot I fired either missed or bounced. I fired 8 shots, had 1 bounce, and 7 misses. All from close range. I witnessed other tanks on my team shoot at enemy tanks point-blank and somehow miss them. T30 fired at an EBR that his barrel was touching for 0 damage. We lost 3-15. You can't tell me that the game does not rig the results in favor of some teams winning.
    I've been on the other side of these rigged battles, and it's like I can't miss.

    I grinded almost a 100 hours in one week to get an IS-3. Did that suck yes a lot, I even quit the game shortly after that. Player base was way worse 7 years ago so my team kept getting swiped away so fast it wasnt even fun anymore. Just got back in the game last week and boy is it way more fun now even when you play without paying anything.

    The only thing that is available to a f2p player and does give you an advantage is the automatic fire extinguisher. The credits and XP are also just brutal. Example, I play a game in my tier X strv 103-0 and i get 2500 dmg or so and I stay alive but left on 300hp or so, also it's a win, that game costs me like 10k credits or so when in reality a won game where you did some damage should never ever be burning your credits. It's just insane

  • @nightsounds8366
    @nightsounds8366 2 года назад

    The only thing I don’t like tbh that’s a premium advantage, is the premium ammo. For example, if you have a tank that’s known for having good frontal armor or good turret armor and then someone who normally wouldn’t be able to penetrate you from that angle and it’s the only thing keeping you alive. Just loads some premium ammo and just destroys you and defeats the whole purpose of your tank

    Ultimate freeloader tip:
    Install World of warplanes and play every day 1 battle (or AFK 3 battles till the battle ends, who cares about player experience in WoWp). That will finish daily mission, if you complete all 7 in the week you get chest. Chest may drop free experience (valid for WoT), gold (valid for WoT) and wargaming premium (it is not as good as WoT premium, but still gives you +50% experience and credits and is better than nothing).
    After a year or two you will have enough gold just to buy one t8 premium for gold and enough free experience to skip the stock on the entire line for almost nothing

    I can't even afford to drive some of my tanks without premium consumables or ammo, like my E-100 or AMX 50-100. I would love to see a credit-earning guide, like what tanks to drive for it, because all the ones right now suggest a premium tank, and I just want to know what regular tank is best for it.

    You nailed it this time mr.QB.
    I have been playing this game for 10years. But strictly out of fun. But playing a game here or there or an 30min-1h play once or twice a week does not make my progress fast.
    Long time ago I have decided to stop at Tier 8. T10 are not economical for me. I do have 2 T9 but don’t play them that much. And also buying a T 10 would be impossible.
    I have given compliments to the Wargaming by buying one premium and buying some progress. But honestly I think they have become to greedy. But I still enjoy playing it. So that is why I am playing it.
    Would be nice if they can make a subscription for all of those who wish to play them. And also make a game mode where only free tiers can meet regardless of the tier level. And I don’t play to be ranked higher or get the medals. I just want to enjoy it.

Free players like me in such games are nothing but a non bot practicing targets for the premium players. The studio is using us as numbers to give the game moneterial value and to make the queues fast for the paying players.

    QB,
    Request for QB: How about a 2021 Top 10 Fun tanks? What tanks do your really enjoying playing, irregardless of winning?
    As a player recently returned after a multi-year absence I can really relate to the free-to-play issues. The game really feels way more monetized than it used to be. I have so many tanks poorly fit because that’s what we used to have. Equipment 2.0 means hours of grinding credits in a premium tank for each of my older tanks just to properly equip them. And my old standby’s that were godly are now just practice targets for gold spewing auto-loaders, immensely frustrating.

    On free to play account you have less tanks and you have lower tier tanks. Don't make the mistake of always playing high tier tanks, of grinding all the time, of trying to unlock many tanks. Play your best tanks. Then you can even get field mods and good crew, equipment for those few tanks.

    I pretty much have given up on WoT. I have been with WoT since the start when tanks,SP's and arty had their real world capabilities,but little by little WoT started jumping the shark. I quit playing for a yr because of how bad the game was getting.Example a luchs with a 2cm flak gun can kill a T-34 but the T-34 can't kill the luchs,or a PZ ll can survive 5 hits from a marder 38t 7.5 pak gun and kill the marder 38t. I came back to see how things were,and was disappointed that nothing has changed. I was on covid quarantine so I played WoT for 10 days 15 hrs per day beginning on 1/08/22,and my crew training never advanced in those 10 days.

    i'm not f2p, but im also not completely p2w, however i don't think you absolutely need to spend money to get anything done in WoT. but i do strongly feel that the game is formated to be extremely unforgiving for a person who refuses to pour dollar bills onto WG's head.. just the rng alone can very often make you want to chop your head off with a rusty spoon..

    As 6 years Free to play experienced player, I would like to recommend most free to play players to avoid Tier 8, there are tons of tons of much better powerful premium tanks are roaming around, they will eat you alive no matter how hard you try in tech tree tanks, Go with Tier 9, 7, 6 there are less of over powered paid tanks, more enjoyable gameplay, I repeat if u r free to play player without meta tanks, avoid Tier 8 at all cost.

    • @robinkhn2547
      @robinkhn2547 2 года назад

      I would recommend to avoid high tiers entirely. With tier 9 you will still meet op tier 8 premiums, and at tier 9 they still have a huge influence. And with tier 9 u will meet tier X half of the time, and tier X is the most toxic and least fun tier in this game. In no other tier you will find so many games ending on-sided and over after a couple of minutes. Most of the time you either get rushed or your team rushes and the game is over after 3 minutes. Both cases are shit.
      Tier X is so unbalanced because I guess that's were you have the biggest skill difference in players. I believe most high-skilled players almost only play high tiers. Tier X needs a skillbased mm more than any other tier. And I recommend not to play tier X unless u have achieved a rating of 5k-6k at least, cos otherwise u are too inexperienced.
