ABOUT LARKIN POE ----------------------------------------------
Grammy-nominated Larkin Poe was founded in 2010 by Rebecca Lovell on lead guitar and lead vocals and her sister Megan Lovell on lapsteel guitar and backing vocals. They have released six studio albums and toured extensively around the world, earning them millions of fans. Distant relatives of the famous author Edgar Allan Poe, the band was named after the girls’ great-great-great-great-grandfather.
As teenagers, Rebecca and Megan began their musical careers by joining their older sister Jessica in a trio called The Lovell Sisters. They put out a couple of albums, but then disbanded, only to re-emerge a year later as the duo, Larkin Poe. The band’s third album, Venom & Faith, was released in 2018, reached #1 on the Billboard blues album chart, and was nominated for the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. That same year, they released Self Made Man, which also reached #1 on the Billboard blues album chart, giving them two consecutive #1 albums. After putting out a collection of cover tunes during the pandemic, they recently unveiled their sixth album, Blood Harmony, which they are currently promoting on a world tour.
With six studio albums to their name, Larkin Poe has amassed an impressive library of original music, but they have also recorded dozens of covers, both for their RUclips channel and also for one of their studio albums. In this episode, we will focus primarily on their original music, including only one cover. However, we highly encourage you to visit their channel to explore their almost 300 videos.

I've always liked many bands and many styles of music. This meant that for most of my life if someone asked me who my favorite band was, I had trouble coming up with an answer. These last few years I finally have one, and it is Larkin Poe.
They can take blues classics from the '30s to the '60s and make them sound both awesome and authentic, as well as writing a couple songs that had me fooled because I thought they WERE blues classics that I was unfamiliar with, only to discover they were LP originals. And for Southern Rock, I think they may have perfected the genre.
Glad to see videos like this being made that will hopefully bring more attention to them.
That is great. It is so wonderful to discover a band and fall in love with their music. They really do have an incredible knack for writing classic sounding songs.
These Ladies are amazing live, and the Blood Harmony album is their best, in my opinion. Larkin Poe deserve their latest Grammy nomination!
Nothing like blood harmony! Do you have a favorite track of theirs?
@fortivomusic there are too many... From Blood Harmony, it might be Bolt Cutters and the Family Name, but give Lips as Cold as Diamonds a listen. A hidden gem. An all-time favorite is Mad as a Hatter. Makes me tear up every time.
Great selections@@brettkester1639 !
💯🎸✌ wow Larkin Poe what that's Woman Power ...I love it ..
Bye Muddyblues 🎸🎸✌🍀❣🙋♂️
Their tunes lift my days. Love this blues, goove, soul, rock, roots mixture. They're great. Soulful.
Watching this video on New Year's Eve, 2023. For me, Larkin Poe have brought much joy to what was a tough year emotionally - 2 members of my extended family passed away from dementia - and then I found their "Mad as a Hatter" video clip from The Convent, had a good cry, and since then have searched for more and more of their music and other output on RUclips. These 2 hard working and very talented sisters are now my favourite rock and blues musicians - the best around currently - and deserve every award and accolade thats going. Thanks for this compilation, including my favourite track, which (unsurprisingly) had me reaching for the tissues again.
Thx4 sharing..God bless you w/your difficulties..
Larkin Poe RULES !!!:)))
I have to apologize. Based on the recommendations RUclips kept sending me, I got the impression they were 'just another YT cover band' and never bothered to listen in. Foolish me. This is powefull stuff.
Thanks for putting me straight!
So glad you're enjoying discovering their music! They sure do know how to rock 🤘
Those sisters have that special type of chemistry! And their stage presence, oh dear! I've enjoyed them live in Brussels, Belgium a few days ago; still sends the shivers down my spine. There's only one Larkin Poe, and they are something to be experienced.
There really is something special about sibling harmony and connection.
Thank you for spreading the word about these fabulous musicians, and thank you for presenting so many of their songs in their entirety.
I've seen them seven or eight times now, and each time has been better than the one before. Rebecca's guitar playing has improved tremendously, and Megan is no longer hanging back in her shadow during shows. I do miss Kevin, though. He was a hell of a drummer.
What happened to the drummer … ? Why was he replaced?
@@nckwlch He just decided that it was time to do something else after 6 years on the road with Larkin Poe. I think he's doing session work in Nashville now. It happens. Ally Venable lost both her drummer and her bass player last year for the same reason. Not everyone's cut out for playing 180+ shows a year indefinitely.
Wow! Do you have a favorite concert of theirs that you've been to?
@@fortivomusic Hard to pick one, really. I did enjoy seeing them on the Main Stage at the Big Blues Bender in Vegas back in 2019. It's always cool to see how the audience at a festival reacts to a relatively-unknown (at least to them) performer. When they came out, most of the audience was milling around, off getting drinks, etc. Nobody paid that much attention to them. They were waiting for Robert Cray. That didn't last long 🙂
I like the organ
They're really nice - thanks
Just bought a ticket for their concert in Bonn/Germany on July 19, Front of Stage. I probably wouldn't have discovered them without your introduction. Thanks a lot!
This is so great to hear! We love introducing folks to incredible talent. Hope you enjoy the show!
Excellent introduction for myfavourite band (after Beatles). Their non compromising musical independence is what drives them. As they plough through many musical genres they never disappoint. They're very hospitable to their fans, and have earned a nice community of followers who willingly support their music. Please consider a more in depth L.Poe video in the near future.
So glad you enjoyed! Our goal is to highlight amazing artists and introduce fans to musicians they may not have heard before. We encourage you to take a look through some of our other videos and get to know some of other talented artists. You may just find your next favorite band 😉
I absolutely love everything these ladies do! Thank you for making this video and helping promote these immensely talented and dedicated artists!
Our pleasure! Our mission is to help promote incredible artists and introduce fans to music they may not have heard before!
🙌🙌🙌
Excellent work! Finally, a Larkin Poe artist overview that I can share with new fans without fear of inaccuracies or false assumptions. Thank you for your due diligence:-) As a 13 year fan, co-founder and co-administrator of Facebooks first Larkin Poe Fan Group, I give this Artist Spotlight my stamp of approval:-)
Wow! Thank you so much. So glad we could do such a talent group justice!
Bizarre le groupe ,2 star et 2 fantôme
Saw them live in Glasgow last night, absolutely phenomenal show ❤
Wow! It's great to hear from a fellow avid Larkin Poe fan. Perhaps you could help us out: if you were putting together a 10-song playlist that would introduce a new fan to their music, what songs would you add/delete from our list?
Great summary! Thanks for sharing!
So glad you enjoyed it! We hope you will check out some of our other videos where we highlight some more incredible artists :)
I have been following Larkin Poe for a couple of years now. This video is an excellent intro to the girls and the band with a nice representative collection of their songs and some historical info about how they got to where they are today. Great Job Fortivo. 💯👍
Than you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video. If you had to put together a playlist with some of their songs, which ones are a must add for you?
@@fortivomusic Hi again. You already included great songs in your video. I guess if asked I would add "Jailbreak" & "Bolt Cutters And The Family Name" & "Wanted Woman/AcDc" & "Easy Street" & "Ex-Con" & "Kick The Blues" And I also think their cover of "Wade In The Water" is an atmospheric track. Oh, and also their version of "Black Betty" - especially the one recorded in the "Jam In The Van" series (with just Rebecca & Megan playing)
This is a pretty good high level overview of LP's music, but I was hoping for more depth. Their love for the American South goes deep, and there is a dark side to some of their music. Hopefully someday you'll go into more detail about this excellent band that makes some of the very best music today. 👍
There is so much we could have said about this amazing band! We'll keep that in mind as an idea for another video down the road. Thanks for watching and appreciating their incredible music 🤘
Sure, you bet. 😊@@fortivomusic
As this independent band's recognition rises, it's a wise business decision to continue covering their progress.
Undoubtetly, these two genius sisters will make it to the world top artists- but i fear, when that happens, will they lose their freshness, their power, their southern roots, their beautiful performance and feeling?
🤩🤩🤩🤩
They are absolutely incredible. ❤
W0W! A couple of Ga made girls!
These sisters rock.
They're Fantastic!!!
ENJOYED ...
Hi!
Excellent video my friend.
I love these two ladies.
Great Southern Rock and awesome Blues Rock too.
Cheers 🤘🏻
Thank you. They always have a great fresh take on southern rock and blues 🤘
best ever !
I don’t much care for southern fried rock, but these kids do it so damn well. I love them!!
Do you have a favorite track of theirs?
@@fortivomusic my fav of theirs is “mad as a hatter”.
Love Larkin Poe! Could you do a spotlight on Samantha Fish please?
Great suggestion ... she's definitely on the list!
As you can imagine, our pipeline far exceeds our ability to crank out quality videos once per week, so we are in the process of adding more resources in order to keep up with demand.
Stay tuned for more exciting announcements heading into 2024!
Great video. Just to make a small correction, they were born in East Tennesse, as they've mentionned, before growing up in Georgia.
your review is superb. LP presented at their best, charizmatic rockers with unique style.
Thank you so much! We really aim to present artists in as unbiased a way as possible so that their artistry speaks for itself :)
I think its great they've carved out a little niche of blues and seem to be popular touring act!
Love to see the blues still alive and well!
Went to see them whenever they're in Paris, great show Megan is just amazing.
It's great to hear from a fellow Larkin Poe fan! Do you have a favorite song of theirs?
@@fortivomusic it's a tough one, from their latest album I'd say Summertime Sunset and Southern Comfort.
Like they're kinda slowly becoming the female Black Keys soundwise. Dirty, distorted blues.
Love what they're doing for the blues genre
girls are getting high❤❤❤
Voices, musicality, charisma, they have it all except repertoire. Someone needs to write em a hit songs.
They are "southern rock n roll," not rock n blues...There is no swing in their rythems,,all straight time....there is an influence of the earliest slide blues players but nothing that shuffles, like the 3 kings,,, its all down beat...these girls are brilliant musicians and very Self Made...
We agree they are brilliant! We love what they are doing for both the southern rock and rock/blues genres. Seeing young musicians bringing a new perspective is always appreciated!
🤔 not my cup of tea. I don’t care for twangy whiny music.
