Both very credible sheep...and strong for the money...need to see them shorn...a good trimming man can make a grands worth of difference to a sheep...very interesting video...thanks...
Really enjoyed the video Sam! Your tup at £750 isn't a dear tup, he's not quite in the condition as the £1200 tup but your tup will turn out the best one in the long run. Plenty length and leg about him. All the best Sam
Great buys , never see the difference between a £1k tip and a &10k tup but the effort the breeders put in is amazing. Look forward to some quality lambs. Oliver did you proud 👍🏻
Oliver’s ram is a good sheep but he is a sheep to breed rams your sheep is a growther sheep and very kind headed slightly lighter of the bone he should breed very nice ewe lambs basically if they were mine I would put Oliver’s ram with the lighter boned ewes ( you know the ones that have a bit of a dip behind the shoulder) and he should straighten them up and put a bit of power into them and I would put your ram with the stuffier, thicker ewes and hopefully he will put a bit of kindness into them, if you are lucky and they are matched to the right ewes you should have a lot of very nice ewe lambs next year and then you will have a good base flock to breed from. I have followed sheep for many years and I have seen some very fancy ones that make huge money and never breed anything and some middling sheep that have breed great stock , the best advice I can give you is try to breed a good ewe and when you have a very nice ewe then you can think about trying to breed rams, regards from Ireland.
Some cracking tups on sale there I picked out 2 tups 321 and the tup oliver pick out he got a good taste in sheep has ur fella he had a bargain with his tup , I do like ur tup but it's a bit to long for my liking but it's the 1 you wanted and it's the one you got well done on ur tup sam fingers crossed he gives you some brilliant tup lambs for you to sell next year
Yes he picked well !! Ones we originally picked went for thousands, so we had to re think 🤣🤣 mines slightly longer but his is brouder might have to borrow his 🤣🤣🤣
I think you did really well at the auction. Tbh I couldn't see the difference between the two you both bought and one's going at 10 times the price! I think they will make cracking lambs x
@@Sam-shuttboth a good stamp for the money , i would be happy with either at what you paid on them , fingers crossed they do the job for ya , everyone has there own eye for what they like
Wow Sam and Oliver two cracking tups you bought should produce some good lambs next spring , will be interesting to see how they compare although I did prefer Oliver’s choice a much stronger tup in my opinion , sorry Sam 😂😂
@michaelhartley9450 Yes, he's a good tup. Ones we originally wanted sold for whey to much 🤣 so had to rethink and look again 🤣 mines bigger and longer but dosnt always mean lambs be bigger. Weal see !
The Attonburn ram is better for breeding rams , better head & shape , the New bank ram is better to produce females or bigger store lambs but he has too long a head and black spots on his ears and maybe a more open coat . Both rams will correct faults on different type ewes and you just never know if they will click with your ewes
they all looked much the same to me but a big variation in price........your sheep have got to ruff it up on those hills of yours.......it makes a difference i think to those that are on lower ground. is it like it is with bulls that you want a ram that will produce easy lambing lambs......long and lean lambs or do you prefer more stocky sorts
Stocky but can't beat length. We've got the length in our ewes really so broad stockyness would be good. I do think he's the better tup like and yes dont want them to melt when they get home haha
both have great stance slightly bigger bag on Olivers, do the expensive ones end up producing for insemination companies, surely there is a limit as to how many sheep a tup can cover? will both tups be used on the whole flock. Also how long do you keep a tup before the gene pool is needing a change ? sorry lots of questions but an office worker with lots of interest great videos as always these last few weeks.
@ianunwin we buy plenty of tups to cover our sheep. So, depending on who's getting, what roughly 40 / 50 sheep to a tup even less if we have plenty. So I'd your breeding for lambs to sell every year like our beltex lambs we sell he can stay as long as possible but anything that we are breeding to keep So like our cheviots he has 2 years to tup then will have to go onto something else or he will be tupping his daughters. So have to change about or sell and buy another if that makes sense. All will be explained once we louse the tups 😃😃😃
I am guessing that judging by the head width between the ears, some texel has been bred into some of them. A DNA analysis would be interesting. Not sure that they need to be goaded and struck in the ring, it only makes them difficult to handle in future.
Are your cheviots bred up ( down) from swaleys? Sheep game cammy saw his arse when yours scanned at 203% and his mate's (which he was garenteeing) expensive supposed fancy cheviots scanned at 135%. Swaleys may look like shite but they can't half breed a good cross bred
They can breed a great cross bred like our texdales, just not keen on puring them 🤣 but have to. No bred ourselves had a lot of years at chivs so we've got length and strength just want more power 🤣😍
I think he is playing up to the camera… or at least I hope he is. Males being males, if it isn’t their idea or their project it is just rubbish. Plus I have noticed that a lot of partners of RUclipsrs don’t like or a sick of being on camera. Sorry Sam. Not our place to comment on your partner. It is just that we luv you and your channel. 😘😘🌸
I think they love oliver to. And he's not keen of the camera either, but he's the only one that tries for ME. So I appreciate his appearance 😄 he plays up yes cos he dosnt no how to talk to the canrea n prob feels awkward but he's getting better 😄🥰😍

Yes probably best as our stock tup amd olivers onto our best will make nice tups to sell possibly
Great buys , never see the difference between a £1k tip and a &10k tup but the effort the breeders put in is amazing. Look forward to some quality lambs.
Oliver did you proud 👍🏻
Just more fake crap between sheep breeders you scratch my back and I will scratch your back to impress the public and jack up prices
He sure did
Both Good looking males, i hope you get many years of use from them with no health problems.
You ain't done bad there lass the pair of ya. Lets hope they perform well in the years to come. 👍
I think the goat is very pleasing to the eye , so my friend Abdul remarked.
Hi sam they do go for a lot of money but they are very nice looking sheep😊
Hi Sam, we hope both tups do well for you two grafters - good luck! Malc and Ann North Lincs xx
@annrobinson4951 thankyou! Roll on lambing time 😃
2 good tips for 2 good people hope they do well for youse
I think you’re one is the best x
I know zero about Sheep, but just on looks I prefer yours Sam. Both look good value tho.

Sorry Sam, but I prefer Olivers tup. Had a wee laugh when yours was chapped down to Mr Shuttleworth.
😊😊Lolx
Think I do too. I might have to borrow it 🤣 haha yes I l chuckled to 🤣🤣
A good buy sam i really like your tup 😅 you should have great big lambs out of him and going by his head should be easy lambed 😮
@ThomasReilly-h7b yes head is on smaller side but weal seeeee

@TheKayc136 there is a big difference I went for length he went for broadness
Reminds me of the day I seen baileys Suffolk ram sell for 40k at roscrea premier sale 😮😮
Trade is good and big crowd around the ring
@jimboyd6615 is always a busy day
2 good rams Sam I prefer the one Oliver picked he's a bit squarer across the back
@@colinpoole9285 he is more square !
Must of been some buzz seeing that tup sell for £28k. Your tups look good.
@Calum_1940 so gutted I actually missed it while we were looking around! But yeh be some buzz for the seller 🤣🤣
@@Sam-shutt 🤣
I always look for a good back end muscle on a ram, that’s where the power comes from 😉😂
Haha well said 😉😄
Olivers one got great front shoulder your one's got a nicer head. Lambing could be easier with your one
I thought my head was a bit snoupy I like them short and chunky 🤣🤣🤣 but hey ho
A long straight back with a good head works for me.
i would have gone for the one oliver picked , brauder and has better stance in my opinion
Yes far better stance

28,000 for a ram....ramsgate surely!...must be the biggest ram me lads that ever was fed on hay!

Are they fertility tested before they are sold or that up to you
They are 2 shears, so they will have been used as shearlings

Same but very different
It would be useful to know their dates of birth
I'm curious...I'm not a farmer..but do those guys in the auction ring Have to keep hitting the sheep in the ring? Please can someone explain it to me?
They are trying to make the ram show itself, but I don’t think some of them need to poke and goad them.
@@wendyrowland7787 Thank you for that...appreciated
No need for over use of crook, the tup would move just as easy if the men were just waving their arms.
Yeah the stick was not needed
They are trying to get that 28000$ Ram to stand for a photo after they hunted him around the ring. He could of broken his leg.
Are these all semen tested?
No used at shearlings
