  • Servus my Motorbikefriends, today (and tomorrow) we are installing heated grips on a Road King Special. The install is schematic and I'm not win an OSCAR in the near future. Enjoy the wrenching.

I just went to install my heated grips and would like to do the harness modification. On the right hand side accessory plug, there was actually a female white connector attached to it. So I would imagine I just need the bigger pins to do the modification.
My question is, would I be able to run a sound bar the same way with the other plug? Utilizing electrical connections that are already there, over running new wires back to the battery seems much easier/cleaner.

Thank you for the video. Can you provide more details for the wiring harness modification you used? I know you show the package, but I’m having trouble finding the exact match here in the US. More info and step by step might help. Possibly a link to the resource you used also?

You didn't show the fitting of the new left hand grip onto the handlebar. This was a major pain! After thoroughly cleaning the handlebar I couldn't fit the grip and, worse, the assembly kept coming apart. I had to apply some silicone grease to the *inside* of the handlebar. When you reattach the controls housing it holds down the grip so it doesn't move.
Also fun was finding a key-fob-enabled and switched source for 12V, but in my 2016 Road King I found it in a black and grayish wire housing that wasn't connected to anything. After some splicing, now it is.
    Are BMWs more rigorously engineered?

Hi Wes, I’m sorry to hear. We had no issues in reassembling the righthand side, that’s why I kept it so short. Do you still run genuine HD bars? Normally the play is so big that you definitely need no lubricant. Check that the switch assembly is seated right against both halves of the switch housing.
      Enjoy your warm hands!

Hi Again Stefan, Ive purchased the auxiliary power harness for my pending heated grip install on the same bike you used here, however I like the idea you have implemented using the existing available connections. Couple of questions I have before using this method is, What circuit are you plugging into using that stock connector( can you also confirm the factory wire colours on the plug you used please? is this plug fused and where is the fuse located please? Keep up the good work, regards Danny

Hi Danny, I’m sorry it was a customer bike. So I don’t have the wires. It’s the auxiliary lighting connector, so it will only work on RK Special. You need to get a DC Meter to check the voltage as there are three pins.

    Hi!
    Thanks for a great video!
I have exactly the same Kahuna grips that I want to install on my RKS 2017.
I have an odd (but maybe easy) question as I've searched my answer all over the internet to no success.
My right hand grip was delivered with the cap plugged on covering the connection.
How do you remove this end-cap? (I don't want to break anything so I've just tried screwing and pulling by hand.. )
    Biker regards from Sweden

Watch my Easygrip Rattlekiller installvideo, I remove the plug there. Just fingernails and some pulling on the Kahunas.
