Much of the songcraft on World Wide Whack is not strong enough to carry the lyrics' emotional heft.

Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? - Видеоклипы
as someone who values emotional impact above all else in music, and someone who is very neurodivergent with various mental health struggles, this album is exactly what I needed it to be
That's actually an interesting way to look at music, and perfectly puts into words how I listen to music. It's the emotional impact for me too, not the mathematical perfection of arrangements or cleanliness of mixing and mastering.
Great comment!
Right behind you on this one. Couldn't disagree more with the review, I understand the criticism, but I think it's an album with a very personal appeal, that some people might feel it more relatable than others. I absolutely loved it.
Exactly. I thought her entire album was very cleverly interconnected and maybe that isn’t obvious. she just gets “it “ in a way that’s really relatable. I haven’t felt that seen in a while. Maybe the people who are not vibing with it don’t get that- Lucky for them.
Whack’s an amazing lyricist which she has demonstrated on ig, but this album wasn’t for that. It was for us
As someone who really liked this album, this review feels way more positive about the album than most of the people on twitter/rym/aoty have been, which is why i'm honestly relieved you gave it as high as a 6
Yeah I would give it a 7. I like Whack World better, but the themes and ideas on this album are really emotional and personal which elevates it a lot
I really, really wanted to like this one. It felt much more generic than I expected.
I didn’t like this album at first, felt let down, and then the lord I listened, the more it grew on me.
Can you stop blackballing Cal and let him drop The New Calassic 2
From a “bucket list interview” to a six. Never change, Melon.
You know what… I respect it
those assumptions people make that the score are high when the artists do an interview w him is bs in my opinion.
car seat headrest got a 5 in 2020, and there still was an interview.
@@jna9841 zoomers when journalistic integrity exists:
I guess that's how you know he's not biased I suppose
Bro keeps it 100 so fair play
Yeah. I unfortunately agree. Had high expectations and am just left a bit underwhelmed. I think the long wait added to that sense of expecting a lot. Hope she makes it through the dark period she’s in
YEAR OF THE CAL
I like when funny man with moustache talk
Funny mustache man good
I really enjoyed this one, the lyrics are very emotional and I loved the variety in sounds and styles here. It also flows insanely well. Mostly everything was done well for me and I’m gonna be playing this all year. 8.75/10, one of my favorites of the year so far
Two Night and 27 Club together are so sad
@@georgeandfriendsadventures5073seriously man, those ones hurt
Same, when I finish an album and think "yeah im gonna come back to this for a few months", I know it's a good one, and that's how this album made me feel
Me too ❤
Great review! I feel like your interview with her last week put you in a certain state of mind to be ultra precise about your thoughts. I think it's great, you aren't always this clear with your feedback. You put it in a way that even if I was the artist or I really loved the record I could understand your gripes with it and respect them on some level.
I understand what you mean but i think the minimalist production is tierras style. I mean its always been her style. She wants to out perform the beat and production and she does. Melodies and sounds and styles r awesome. Idk why nobody talks about X. Thats my favorite song shes ever come out with. Whole album is great ill gove an 8.5 but X, accessible, ms behave, moovies, and 27 club r all 10s
Difficult is my fav
DUDEEE YESS “X” is peak lol. Ms Behave definitely follows right behind X
Cal has been coming in hot on a lot of these reviews
Album was ok. Wish the songwriting and production had a little more polish. Still can’t deny the direction and themes presented by Tierra are good.
bro js repeated what fantano said in the video 😭😭
Nah, this album is phenomenal. Not just the lyricism but the tunes, which yes are minimal but hooky and dynamic, and I never felt like the songs were under-cooked in the context of the entire album for the exact reason you gave; every song is an amazing idea and is refreshingly different from the last, and is either a sweet blip that avoids overstaying its welcome or does double down with some kind of switch like Acessible or Imaginary Friends, which together are where the album really takes off and doesn't stop until just before the closing two tracks. If I have any problem with the songs, its the tune at the core of for example Invitation or Snake Eyes, but certainly not the length of them.
I can understand why you want more out of each track but I don't really see the need or even think it'd inherently make for a better album. The songs last as long as they need to.
The first couple songs didn’t grab me but once it got to Imaginary Friends I loved that song and everything that came after it
I’ve listened to the album all the way through 5 or 6 times this weekend because I had some long road trips but it’s a very easy listen and really solid. It builds on Whack World and doesn’t seem like Tierra whack has changed really at all melody or rap wise in 6 years. Just seems like she’s still a solid artist. Some of the songs are still too short tho. I enjoy it:)
I think the only track that should be longer is Mood Swing, but the rest are a decent length
@@georgeandfriendsadventures5073 yes deff an improvement on her past work song lengths
I am leaving a comment to help Fantano with his bated breath as Cal asked me to do
I thought music was dead, what is this?
You're hallucinating. Drink some water and lay down.
music 2
it cant be dead forever right?
Dragon Balls
MELGELIC 2 THE CORE
i was feeling a 6 as well. this review was unusually gentle and longwinded lol but i think he put it all very well. love her personality and what she’s able to express so uniquely, but the songs were often feeling too 1 dimensional
Yeah 6 is him being nice I think
Love seeing Cal Chuchesta more this year, he carries this channel
The thumbnail to intro of the video transition was crazy!
Cal was needed in this review!! Yeees
I love the return of Cal
I could not get over how skeletal the production was, I wish it was good as rapping
27 club really set my expectations so so high that this album was a big 'eh'
Man, the two last tracks on this are insane in every single one of the ways
feeling a strong 8 personally
6/10 and Fantano do look good together
*oh the memes*
Bro where's the mountainhead album review? I can't resist having an opinion about that album (9/10 btw) for much longer
Would you consider reviewing the debut Friko album that released a month ago?
Stuffy fluffy mcgruffy
I completely agree with this review and its always been the problem I have with tierra's music. She has personality and talent in spades, yet she can never seem to channel it into a really killer song. She has a couple of bangers that I'll still throw on every now and then but for the most part her music has little to no replay value for me. And this is coming from someone who struggles with my mental health on a daily basis, unfortunately the themes and messaging just arent enough to carry the album :/ I still have a lot of respect for her though and I genuinely do think she has the potential to release an amazing project in the future if she can hook up with the right producers.
Would you have any reccs for your fav songs by her ?
@itsMasonMcCulloch Mumbo Jumbo, Unemployed and Dora are my most played songs by her, Whack World (the album) isn't bad either just know you're only getting a minute of each song so it's not super substantive.
@@joekratman1872 i agree with you, and i think it's for the same reason. in those songs she goes harder with more classic style rap and very clever lyricism and ideas around production. the ideas in her other stuff are often good, but the tracks themselves aren't attention holding unless you're a chill vibes kinda person.
Well said. I saw her perform at the Adult Swim music festival in Philly about 2 years ago and even that performance was a let down. Not refined or rehearsed enough. Love her though
@@itsMasonMcCulloch I would say just watch the video for Whack World first. It's ~15mins and each song is 1 minute and they all have music videos. It's kinda a visual album project, but gives you a good idea of her style and how each song is pretty unique.
"Unemployed" & "Gloria" are probably her most accessible songs if you are a HipHop fan. If you want to hear some of her songs that aren't straight hiphop, then check out "27 Club" & "Dolly."
10/10 this album Is so good
You can tell it hurt him to give her the 6 but he had to maintain integrity.
Que the 'If this album was called' comments for Melon
the rhymes are creative, a bit disconnected sometimes but the music, beats and rhythm.... kinda quite, boring and formulaic. there's a lot of great concepts they're just all. underdeveloped. the over all narrative is really good.
Will you do a review of “Compare What’s There” by Real Farmers for me
Funny how someone who had the gall to say something negative about Nas is still struggling to produce anything fully fledged.
If you think the tracks are too short..listen again! We are living in a world where we lose attention often. It is what it is. This seems like me to me a way to say what you want to say and get out of the way,.
Why do so many Nirvana songs repeat the first verse on the third? Because the record industries told them their song wasn't long enough. I am just hypothesizing here but I bet Kurt didn't want to do that.
The beats are incredibly clean and concise. Not everything has to have a climax. They hit hard, minimally.
Tierra is a wordsmith, artist, musician, actor, and magician.
I cry to her tracks. I feel the profound sense of creativity and collaboration with whomever she is working with.
This album was refreshing and uplifiting to my musical ears, my heart and, my soul.
where's the psykos review freaktano
Wish it was more fun. A lot of snoozers. Felt super unnecessary. Parts reminded me of MGK trying to go punk 😅 Wish they stayed more hip hop with it. They do that a lot better.
It didnt stick for me much on the first couple of listens, but thats alright. Ill have to come back to it in the future
Hey, can you please review fallingwithscissors, the birth and death of an angel?
he took off the glasses and scared the shit outta me
Please review Exotico!!
it’s my album of the year so far. i think most of your points are valid but you have to take into account the context it was made in. artists need to make impactful sound bites if they wanna make a bag in todays climate. review is great, just disagree with final score✨
loved this album honestly
review Erick the architects new album, pleeeeeaaassss
I ❤ this album so much, her Tiny desk is also incredible 😮
Which song does she talk about making a deal with the devil?
Why are you not reviewing Faye Webster again 😢 She’s not that underground, you know?
Pls review Rainao's album Capicu I think it's a great one
I was going to suggest the same!!
I agree
it’s been 10 seconds and you already agree? 💀

And? Let the man agree
@@ramfarid1 your so dumb kid 🤦♂️
I really agree with this review BUT I’m pretty sure no other artist will do an interview before review again. First he CRUSHES Kevin Abstract then UNFINISHED Tierra Whack after their interviews. 😂😂😂 I love that he does this because it’s HONEST. A rare trait in this backstabbing sneaky world we live in. Don’t ever change ANTHONY 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I’ll see if my parents will let me listen to this one, Fantanny
I disagree, but great review anyway!
Anthony "LA KNIGHT" Fantano
10/10 for me yall just aren't on the same wavelength
This album is good but it can’t touch the original Whack World, not even close.
fantano this is not psykos
you have new bladee to review melon
Hey Fluppy Stuppy
One of my favorites ä. If waited so long for a song like Difficult.
I loved this album! I’m glad you get generally positive about it! Hope everyone who’s checking it out likes it :)
I would give it a 7
we need a cal story arch
Yeah I can't lie, I love Tierra Whack but this was just kind disapointing honestly.
true
It's not a sophmore album. Whack World was a 15 minute mixtape.
She just dropped a tiny desk, would love to hear your thoughts
Considering the quality of Whack World and all of the singles she released since, this album is a very surprising letdown.
Idk what u talking about this album was a strong 8
Flo Milli next
All that matters to a guitar licker like me is Tom Scholz even if he fibs to me about the new guy.
I don't mind one drop telling him and showing him how much he means to me for the rest of my days.
He did musical things to me in 1990 that I can never wash off and would never do so.
If he's not there, I walk out. I don't play guitar without him. Because less is unthinkable to me.
NO FAYE WEBSTER REVIEW STILL????
I love this major return of Cal cuchesta
It makes sense that she was sponsored by adobe because I feel like she is if adobe cloud was a rapper
Should have named the album 'the world we whack in'
Chief keef dirty nachos review!
Everybody asked for a longer, "whole" album and she finally did it and by did it I mean she kinda dumped her trauma on to us
Melon where can I buy dem red shades ?? 00:00
It’s more than a 6 for me, prob 7.5 - 8 but I get that Melon can’t give it more than that if he gave Whack World a 7.
I disagree, i think the album is a meditation of these unfiltered emotions. If im distracted by the beat, ill wont be paying attention to the words.
I’ve been a big fan since the beginning. I like the album a lot but I agree it feels undeveloped
The production on this thing was often basic af and completely strucureless. Massive disappointment
CAL CHUCESTA RETURNS
Cal Chuchesta gaming today
Wow melon you really outdid yourself with this one, this is one of the best reviews I have ever watched. I can now die in peace knowing I’ve seen the best review from the busiest music nerd on the World Wide Web

This is where I draw the line Melon. I was interested to see your review because I enjoyed every single song on this album without hesitation. That 6 is worse than MBDTF in my eyes I’m not joking
