I only found this band recently, and to saw I'm slack jawed is an understatement. I have listened to this song EVERY DAY for over a month! I remember how music could be everything, I was 14 in 1992. Seminal for me is Nirvana, Neutral Milk Hotel, Iron and Wine and the Beths. The best band playing in 2022, is the beths
I now own all three albums. And have listened to the band everyday since. Not since neutral milk hotel have I been so enthralled by a band, can't wait to see them in the summer
Liz Stokes is an absolute Diva/Goddess/Queen of the highest order. You can live to be a million and never see anyone who sings like that and writes like that.....Thank God for the Beths
Liz Stokes is a solid songwriter, but let's not act like they're the second coming of Lennon and McCartney, dude. They do what they do very well. She also sounds relatively terrible here, unlike her live performance in Portland a couple weeks ago. Must have had a cold.
Even more incredibly - their studio trickery is still them - Jonathan Pearce (lead guitar - playing Les Paul here) is also their recording engineer, did the majority of the mixing, and is credited as the producer on all their records. The do all their own arrangements and Liz does the vast majority of the writing with the other members contributing the rest. They really are magic.
have loved this band for years, all their works are great but this album knocks most of their discography out of the park. the titular song specifically is one of their best of all time IMO!!
it's such a small detail but the end of Knee Deep is amazing - really shows how locked in they all are. It builds and builds and the stops in an instant. Love them so much.
this band proves that you don't need to have an extroverted personality, outrageous outfits or crazy stage antics to get people to notice you. You just stand there and be good
Those harmonies! That energy, held in restraint! Honestly, as an old man by any indie rock standard I thought my days of having a newish favourite album were behind me, but since their debut I've becoming totally devoted to these humble Kiwi geniuses. There was nothing immature of unfinished about 'Future Me Hates Me' but there's something so interesting in the way Liz's song-writing is moving. Thanks from me in the UK to CD 92.9 for hosting and engineering such a superb platform for the Beths.
The Beths are a great rock band, with chiming guitars, soaring vocals, catchy melodies, and insightful lyrics. The front line walks up to the mics and delivers terrific songs. No matter how polished they sound, they never leave behind their Indie origins.
I recently discovered them too. Totally amazing. I saw the video for dying field I was like there was no way they could pull the vocals off live and wow. They totally did.
I live in Central Ohio. Been at this studio once. They used to be CD 101, playing college music/alternative. I actually was a guest DJ in 2000 after sending in a playlist. Good times. I still have the tape they recorded for me. This is a great, catchy tune. Just discovered them!
Saw them last night in Asheville NC. They are amazing! Their live sound is incredible. A lot heavier and psychedelic than how they sound on most of these videos. The vibe was great. Their drummer is also a complete monster who drives the band with such energy and amazing chops. Definitely worth catching them on tour right now if you can. They’re fantastic!
If, for whatever reason, you're still on the fence about spending your hard-earned cash on their newest record, do it! It's every bit as great as the earlier stuff!
This is just perfect. Should have gotten more views. When I first heard this band, I thought they were Alvvays. I mean both are great, but I think The Beths has more modern sound and the lead guitar parts are exceptional ❤
@@dogdyedblack I think it’s a mixing issue of this recording. Or maybe the recording itself. They sounded massive last I saw them! Like insanely good live, just wanna see more well recorded live versions of their stuff 🙈
probably my fav band in the world right now, the songwriting and arrangement is always seems to be perfectly put together
Love this band. Thanks for taking me back to a great Indie Band era. kia ora.

Same!!!
I feel you 100%
They are great
100% check out their albums. They're incredible.
One of their main inspirations is Alvvays - I'd recommend checking them out as well.

Nothing better.

My favourite band in decades…. I’ve had a break to freshen my ears but now I’m back in again, their music hurts my heart

I like The Beths. To me their sound is very reminiscent of THE SUNDAYS.
I don’t believe there’s a thing about this band that’s uninteresting. And it all looks effortless. Thank you, The Beths!
i don't know like but I like
this band is so tight, my goodness. vocal harmonies and instrumentally they are *incredibly* consistent. Great band

Happy to discover The Beths by way of Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of 2022. They are my new favorite band!

Just saw them play in Santa Fe - incredibly fun band live!
So good. “Silence is Golden” reminds me of Juliana Hatfield. Love it all. “Expert” may be a perfect modern pop song.
Wow she is on point live! Amazing performance!
Literal perfect performance.
This band is awesome!! Love the new album. The guitar tone on A Passing Rain is incredible. The tremolo sound in Best left is also really nice.
This band speaks to my melancholy heart.
100%, Pure Rock & Roll.

Such a good band! Very clean performance.

I really love them.
I love this band so much
That guitar riff is incredibly catchy.
I have tears in my eyes. Thank you!
Silence 🔕 is Golden Simple Rocks... third track 3. Turn it up afew notches in volume in America to really blow them away in clubs and venues...
So Enjoyable 😉 😄
3rd place on my spotify wrapped
What a band
You can't rewind. 😄
Anyone else feel like bass and lead guitar is super low?
Yeah. It still amazes me that they can play "Silence is Golden" so cleanly live, but it doesn't have anything like the power of the studio version.

Yes, agreed, just a mixing issue....
Take the wool blanked off the mix! haha

Love the beths but this mix is way off
I agree. It sounds a little hollow to me.
They sound like if late-era Superchunk went to college for music performance and didn't have an obnoxiously whiny lead singer.
You guys rock, sound guy sucks.
Who ever mixed this needs to go back and do a bit more learning.
Great band. Lousy mix.
