This whole album is seriously a classic. The lyrics are so smart - "How can we rely on demand and supply, if you said goodbye would that be a lie" "Put poison in my wine and hope that you're the one who dies" - and these common terms keep appearing throughout the songs: "breath" "vapour" "cold" "condensation" - "in the cold the steam escapes my lips and dissipates, you breathe it in, we all breathe it in" "breathe aloud/I promise it won't freak me out" "when the cold sets in, a river will run" - it's just so emotional and deep and encompasses pretty much all the stages of romantic life. The whole thing starts out with her wishing she could escape from between "the ache and the apathy" and ends with her asking humanity to "leave me out of it" next time.
I've met her and she was just like this in person! To be honest the whole band is pretty "Kiwi" - ie pretty impassive - but they let their talent speak for them I think :-)
@@kingcrimson1204 I was standing waiting to meet her at her merch table but then changed my mine and walked away lol. I could just tell she was awkward and I am too so I didn't think it would work well.
@@quasistellar @TheBrutalDeluxe I saw them in March and they sound just straight off the album - everything is perfectly tight, the backing vocals are sublime, and Jon's guitar tone just perfect for every lick and solo. And Liz's voice just has such a sweet quality even though she says that she's not primarily a singer. I recommend seeing them anytime you can.
Props to Cheryl and her questions, out of left field and having the band speaking in ways that are actually interesting. This is why I love these KEXP videos. It's a music lover's music channel.
Yeah I'd like to see a compilation video of every time she eagerly smiles while awaiting someone to respond. That would be a very soothing and very long video.
Great, great band... they blew the roof off The Brighton Music Hall in Boston a couple of weeks ago. So tight, and they sounded so good in a such a small venue. Nice folks too... Jon stopped and chatted with us for a bit and it was nice to meet the rest of the band as well. I cannot stop playing this album... end to end.
Iggy Pop on his BBC6 Confidential slot recently mentioned that too. After an all female set he comes on and says that it wasn't a conscious decision to be playing so many female artists, but they're just killing it lately.
There is something about this album "Future Me Hates Me"... it's simply AWESOME!!! I am definitely stoked by you Elizabeth Stokes :) You definitely remind me of Molly Rankin (Alvvays)..Really excited to see you guys @ Logan Square Festival next week...yohooo....
She sounds like Molly Rankin from Alvvays but I think she carries more emotion in her voice. Super affecting. Like, Karen O/Regina Spektor levels of affecting.
OMG I remember doing the open mic thing and YOU GUYS WERE BEFORE MY BAND i could NOT compare as we were a covers band.... but I ABSOLUTELY LOVED every single song you guys presented and still do..... I am so so so glad you all reaped at the awards xxx
The Beths have been at the top of my playlist since last summer. I love this band! I'm so disappointed that they had to cancel their tour dates in April. I can't wait until they come back around again. Anxiously awaiting the release of their new album. Thank you KEXP for this great little video!
I absolutely don't dislike anything about your goodies. I would buy your product having only read the titles and lyrics. Varacious delivery. Continued success.
absolutely a wonderful band thanks so much to KEXP for some of the most compelling live shows out to date. this and Caveman are some of my highlights from this station cheers!
Love these guys - not their best performance as they look overawed by the spotlight, but warmed up towards the end. New album Jump Rope Gazers is even better than the first one sampled here- check it out if you like clever jangly guitar pop.
these guys are legit the beths band I ever seen live
Good pun
@@btaddeonj I'm glad two people have appreciated it
🥲😂
I appreciate it too.

The dream of the 90s is alive in Auckland!

check out Miss June!
The new Portland!

Hell yeah!! I’m loving it!
"It's so great to hear you playing live!"
"Thanks."

I saw them live and she was so similar then too. lol
They didn't start making music to do interviews. She seems like she just wants to play the songs and not talk about playing the songs that much.

Well written
The greatest lyricist since Morrissey in his Smiths days. I love this band ❤️
wow, never actually looked into the lyrics. This makes me love them and this album even more.
I realize it is kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to stream new movies online ?
wow
Liz is the cutest. No need to be so nervous, Liz! You rock!
She looks shattered. So do the others.

I am more than pleasantly surprised that Liz's voice holds up live. Look forward to them headlining their own tour.
Can confirm she's legit live. The band as a whole is crazy good live.

best DJ ever, perhaps. Truly an amazing person.

I'm literally going to a Death Cab Concert just to see them
first saw them support Death Cab in Glasgow earlier this year! They were a m a z I n g
Wow it’s Ben from Mr Sunday Movies
As a crusty 59 year-old myself, I love the youthful exuberance of the band and their sound!
Damn right, I understand. I'm 61 and stuck a 28. Everyone that knows me knows that.
creeper
Beths rule! cool to see nice presenter lady having a boogie too 😎
One of the best albums of the year!
The Beth's are very good
Apparently, if you wait long enough you can like them twice. I swear I have liked 👍every Beths video, did I miss this one?

2018 is the year of female singers taking over
2018 is the year you started chugging more soy lattes than usual.
2018 is the year stupid calls finally go away
Iggy Pop on his BBC6 Confidential slot recently mentioned that too. After an all female set he comes on and says that it wasn't a conscious decision to be playing so many female artists, but they're just killing it lately.

My god I love this music. I have been listening their songs since 2018 and it has helped me through some tough times. Thank you so much

So ridiculously good. Enjoying how well you can hear the lead guitar warbles and slides in here
As an awkward Finn I formed an immediate affinity towards these unassuming Kiwis. :)
Shy peoples of the world should always have each others' backs!
I just discovered this band. Their sound is so refreshing! I will be catching their show in L.A. in July. I’m too psyched! 🐢
This album hasn’t been out for that long but it still gives me a nostalgic feeling? Seriously love The Beths
the hans pucket t-shirt too!! so proud!!
voice of an angel
Thank you for bringing back awesome harmony!!! All Hearts! ++++
they have this positive The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart vibe
The most perfect voice I have ever heard,my esthetics

I love how the accent enhances her emphasis of various words, it's so refreshing
This is one of the best records of 2018!
I've been in love with the album for years. Oh wait, it was released a few months ago... Probably just listened to it too many times!
Reminiscent of the Sundays - lovely songs
So many drummers. Fucking outstanding band.
Saw them in Atlanta with like a 40 person audience. They’re def gonna blow up in the states this year
You guys rule. Representing NZ!
Amazing! I especially love Happy Unhappy in this set. (18:00) Their harmonies and speed are brilliant.
The delay at 3:48 is crazy I can't stop rewatching it. I've been made a fan by the virtuosity
Simply bloody brilliant.

Cheryl, you ALWAYS, have your self together!! And so generous with your compliments, you put anyone at ease, it's lovely (it's IN you).
Happy-Unhappy... The best song of a brilliant album ! Thanks a lots The Beths.
Finally, the KEXP performance! ❤️
Nailed the vocals live, which is a very difficult thing to do in a setting like this

Totally spreading the Hans Pucket word, btw. When a band you like wears other band t-shirts you should pay attention.
Loving the musical and sartorial stylings of the lead guitarists.
One of the coolest up-and-coming female-fronted bands
awww why does liz sound so sad she is literally my favourite person on this earth
Beth's nervousness is adorable.
The best female fronted band since The Sundays ...high praise indeed fucking awesome
That might depend on how much (or how little) the listener wants their rock bands to rock, but they are incredible at what they do.
You make me feel 3 glasses in ..I feel that 🤙🏻

Saw them play at Villa Maria last night, an excellent band.
