I was born in 80 and grew up watching MJ. The RUclips channel Joseph Vincent just released a 2hr long video spanning Jordans career. I figured I'd give it a watch to refresh my memory on how good Jordan was or if it was just nostalgia being a kid/teenager making him larger than life. The astounding thing after watching it was that he was actually better than I could remember. It's as if God molded the perfect basketball player. Not only was his physical gifts a cut above everyone else, insane 40+ vertical, hands larger than most 7 footers where he could snatch the ball out of thin air with one hand, break ankles by just palming the ball around faking people out. Running a 4.3 40 in college. All those physical gifts combined with a mental drive to win like no other. Absolute clutch shooter. A picture perfect midrange jumper. His other worldly hype was completely justified.
Anyone trying to compare guys like Lebron to MJ are insane. Jordan was poetry in motion that could slice and dice his way to the rim like an agile cat. It's the media manufacturing another basketball savior to generate revenue who try to put guys like Lebron in the same echelon as Michael Jordan. There is only one MJ. There will never be another like him.

Being an Indiana boy (born there) I would have to agree with the General on his assessment. Jordan is the best to have played the game; so many abilities and drive, lifted his team. Russell is the most valuable; he won more titles and was a force in the league for a long time, and he tamed Wilt Chamberlin. And Red Auerbach was a wizard as a coach and GM; built some of the best teams ever. Good to see Bobby Knight in a calm and sane moment, he does know his stuff.

MJ also has the highest player efficiency rating in NBA history. Highest ppg average of 30.12ppg in NBA history. MJ has 6 finals MVPS. MJ is the only player in NBA history to average over 100 blocks and over 200 steals two seasons. Scottie Pippen & Hakeem are the only other 2 players to do this 1 time. Jordan is the only player in NBA history to retire in his prime go play baseball and return 1 year and 6 months later to 3 peat. Knight's experience with Jordan on the Olympic team was what I suspect he expected before hand after having seen him perform on the college stage and in fact defeating him in '84 in the NCAA tournament on his way to his third NCAA title. He was somewhat close to Dean Smith in the coaching fraternity always expressing great respect for Smith, so knowing what a meticulous teacher of basketball Smith was Knight had to know Jordan would be well prepared for international competition. Jordan himself has credited Smith's coaching as the catalyst to making him the great player he became. Smith by the way beat the legendary Adolf Rupp like a drum in head to head games eventually surpassing Rupp's 876 wins ending with 879. Smith was a liberal icon in this very conservative southern state. But you can be damn sure that Dean Smith was a god down here and always will be. In my part of the state we're all Tar Heels. You can see what's happening now that LeBron has lost some of his physicality an cannot get to the rim as frequently as
before. Bron never really improved his perimeter game. And that is coming back to bite him in the butt now against younger
teams, in an NBA that prioritizes perimeter shooting.

Jordan better on offense & defense, better ball handler, better in clutch, better analytical stats, better personal awards, and better team achievements. For NCAA Finals, Olympics & NBA Finals, MJ is 9-0 while LeBron is 5-7. In what world is 5-7 better than 9-0???

@@paulsilas9070 I'll try and make this as painless as possible--- The championships have absolutely nothing to do with Mike's GOAT status...
Mike is the GOAT simply by how he, with all his immense physical talents, genius level IQ, unmatched skillsets and unconquerable competitive spirit, approached and played the game...
An approach that was like no other before, during and since...
All The long awaited, and slowly developing team achievement stuff is just gravy to round out the portfolio...
I mean, One "chip" is more than enough to solidify his position as the GOAT; the fact he won six comprising 2 separate threepeats and never seeing a game 7 is preposterous...
      ...and overkill
In fact, Losing to Isiah Thomas's pistons three yrs in a row, or Larry bird's celtics in his rookie and second yr in no way diminishes the fact that that even back then as a youngin, with Larry, magic and Isaiah all in their primes, he was, skill for skill, still the best player in the league...

There, it is a legend a student of the game considered one of the best coaches in college, probably the best. I agree with what he said, Mike Jordan. When a person of his total understanding of the game and won at the highest level and the way he answered that question with no doubt, I don't need anyone telling me why it's a toss up or LeBron or some areas no there is no comparison listen to what this man says .Greatness at his coaching level can see the greatest at a players level his perception outweighs anyone.

It's not a conversation. Jordan was by far the best player ever. And if you have to give the most simple reason as to why it's because he had no weaknesses. People seem to forget how fundamentally sound Jordan was led by the tutelage of Dean Smith. He was also ridiculously efficient. Now some say he wasn't a great 3pt shooter but that's because he could dominate without taking threes. The other thing is when Jordan had off shooting nights he would casually have 17 rebounds or do other things to help his team win. He was as good a clutch player as we 've ever seen and defensively could guard 4 positions well. He was also smarter and a better competitor than LeBron.
