Humility is a great friend of greatness. Mike Holmgren said similar thing about Joe Montana when he got the first NFL coaching job as the QB coach of 49ers. Joe Montana was coming off his MVP season and he told Mike Holmgren the first time they met "Coach me hard.". Mike ends up mentoring 3 HOF QBs after that, "Joe Montana gave me the freedom from the beginning.". Jordan and Montana, they are my GOATs in their sports.

Graham Bensinger does what a good interviewer should do, ask a relevant question and listen to the response. Then proceed from there. I have a good deal of respect for Bernsinger because of his respect for the interview process. Others can learn from him.

It was my junior year in HS and he made the time for me someone he didn't even know and stopped even for just a short minutes-fleeting moment! I treasured it tremendously! So if an ego existed, it was at least absent that night! It's funny because I'd heard the same thing about Mike Mussina the ex Yankees and Orioles star pitcher! He was from my region (Montoursville PA)! Ppl constantly told me he was all about himself and yet when I met him at an autograph signing open to the public, he was down to earth! I believe that Jordan’s parents and Dean Smith instilled in him the manners and respect for others that he has displayed all his life. Jordan did not instantly win an NBA championship when he first entered the league. It took years of blood, sweat and tears to reach that goal. Jordan also respected Coach K for what he had accomplished at Duke. How many times did Coach K reach the Final Four before he won an NBA championship? His record of coaching excellence impressed Jordan, who knew exactly how difficult this feat was. Jordan wanted to win, and he believed that Coach K could help him become an even better player.
You can say plenty of bad things about southerners but they do have manners, and generally speaking, some of the nicest, warmest and most polite people I've found in my travels around the world were black and white southerners from the good ol USA

I've always been amazed, the team of NBA elites actually took that Olympics seriously. Its a testament to the pros on the team, the coaches, etc. At that time, the NBA elites were head and shoulders above the rest of the world, I could have been the coach and rolled the ball out there and they probably win. But none of them took it for granted, they showed up and did a job.
I feel like MJ was much more free to just be himself when he was on the Dream Team. Sure, he was the big dog, but he really respected and maybe even idolized the players and coaches that made up the team to some extent. Therefore, he didn't have to be on edge 100% of the time as he was with Chicago. He let his manners show and he took it less personally. In Chicago it was a different story. He had to carry a whole franchise on his back, media pressure and his own brand. That takes a toll on you mentally, so it is no wonder his leadership was focused on getting the best out of his teammates at any cost. In his mind, in Chicago you had to earn his respect. I don't believe he was an asshole all the way through. When not backed into a corner, he could be a nurturing leader and great teammate. His own success created huge pressure that brought out the dog in him. I can't say I have a problem with it, but I can see how some of his teammates would feel disrespected.

Okay, up front, I am a dyed in the wool Carolina fan - HATE Duke. However, I have to say that watching this interview increased my respect for Coach K. Kind of funny, if you think about it, because the interview isn't really that much about HIM as it is about MJ. But what spoke to me was the fact that Coach K had such recognition of, and appreciation for, Michael's attitude toward him and the way he interacted with him. Many people - that is, many LESSER people - would not even have taken any notice of how Michael behaved there - it wasn't a big deal or some moment that was naturally charged with significance. THAT's what impressed me about Coach K here - that he showed a real depth of, for lack of a better word, humanity, by the fact that he DID notice and appreciate MJ's actions. The fact that both Coach K and Michael were able to set aside the Duke-Carolina rivalry within the context of, "Okay, here and now we're both on the same team - America's team", is really a testament to the character of BOTH men. God, I really effin' hate it when I have to LIKE something about Coach K...it just makes me sick (hahaha). Graham - your stuff is always awesome - thanks!
Chuck Daly was the mastermind behind the Jordan rules and coached the team that bullied and beat up Jordan for most of the late 80's. Krzyzewski coached Jordan's biggest college rival. Team USA selected them to coach the Dream Team. Jordan put all that aside and was very gracious to both. He didn't forgive Isiah Thomas though.
Nobody on that team wanted Isiah Thomas playing with them, it wasn't a Jordan thing. Pippen didn't want him, Magic didn't want him, Bird probably didn't want him either, Chuck didn't want him for sure...

I don't believe he was an asshole all the way through. When not backed into a corner, he could be a nurturing leader and great teammate. His own success created huge pressure that brought out the dog in him. I can't say I have a problem with it, but I can see how some of his teammates would feel disrespected.

Jordan was raised right...he's a southern boy! I haven't had any interest in the NBA since MJ left...I knew then I had already seen the greatest basketball player of all time. This vid just reaffirms it.
Okay, up front, I am a dyed in the wool Carolina fan - HATE Duke. However, I have to say that watching this interview increased my respect for Coach K. Kind of funny, if you think about it, because the interview isn't really that much about HIM as it is about MJ. But what spoke to me was the fact that Coach K had such recognition of, and appreciation for, Michael's attitude toward him and the way he interacted with him. Many people - that is, many LESSER people - would not even have taken any notice of how Michael behaved there - it wasn't a big deal or some moment that was naturally charged with significance. THAT's what impressed me about Coach K here - that he showed a real depth of, for lack of a better word, humanity, by the fact that he DID notice and appreciate MJ's actions.
The fact that both Coach K and Michael were able to set aside the Duke-Carolina rivalry within the context of, "Okay, here and now we're both on the same team - America's team", is really a testament to the character of BOTH men.
God, I really effin' hate it when I have to LIKE something about Coach K...it just makes me sick (hahaha).

Chuck Daly was the mastermind behind the Jordan rules and coached the team that bullied and beat up Jordan for most of the late 80's. Krzyzewski coached Jordan's biggest college rival. Team USA selected them to coach the Dream Team. Jordan put all that aside and was very gracious to both. He didn't forgive Isiah Thomas though.

Im an MJ fan, but i read about the dream team, MJ 's condition to join the team was no Isiah. So yeah, it is what it is and i could understand why.
Thomas got his comeuppance for the freeze-out of Jordan in the '88 All-Star Game. He was forced off the Barcelona team along with Dumars, to make room for Jordan and Pippen. Pippen had just been cut and Jordan was not going to Barcelona until Nike talked to him.
Another big point in favor of Jordan over LeBron, Jordan was humble enough to ask for help to his coach, on the other hand, LeBron gets coaches fired, and he is un-coachable, don't tell me Lue is the Cavaliers coach, we all know who calls the shots in Cleveland

I never saw it in his playing days; of course I was not his confidante. He might as well have asked, "Are you not entertained?", when The Shot went in that day in June of '98.
