    I've played the game for 400 hours, and I can say that BF2042 doesn't feel like a real game, but like a simulation of a game. I'll try to explain:
    What is presented here under the game process, it feels like something is not real. The gameplay itself. It’s as if the game was designed in such a way that everyone was constantly killing each other, and there weren’t huge positive K\D ratios like in previous parts of the BF series. Even the maps themselves are built in such a way that everything is visible. There are simply no dominant positions here, as in previous parts, for which it is interesting to fight.
    Both the cards and the approach to balance seem to have been generated by a neural network - living people simply could not do something so bad. Seriously, I recently went into BF V for comparison and saw a huge difference. BF V was made by real people, there is a logic to the way the game is designed. In what BF2042 is, it simply doesn’t exist. You can take a screenshot of my comment, but I am sure that in 3-5 years, DICE will reveal the terrible secret that BF2042 created their neural network. And the entire team of “developers” were just testers.

    I play BF since the the 1942 & I follow DICE development when they start developing the Frostbite Engine, before Bad Company came out. The company start decining before BF1 release (in development fase). If you remember there was a big time gap b/w the main game & DLCs. Thats when DICE management structure started falling apart. BFV fiasco was the climax of all that, the visible part. I have left many comments in forums, videoclips & discussions, warning about this long before BFV came out but outside everything was looking OK. The financial success of BF1 was a big catalyst of the change DICE suffered.

    • @willfullyinformed
      @willfullyinformed Месяц назад +2

      I've also played since 1942, Vietnam, through all of the games minus the mobile and 1943 since it was console exclusive. Even played before it was called Battlefield, it was just the mod "Desert Combat" as I recall. I agree with you almost entirely and I've done similar in the community raising warnings. I would only argue that the fall and mismanagement of Dice started with Battlefield 4. BF4 was the absolute worst launch of its time, it was very similar to 2042 in this regard, except that thousands of people couldn't even run the game due to crashes, the bugs were enormous, the optimization for both FPS and network was absolutely game-breakingly hideous (it took over 1 year to fix and make it one of the best Battlefields) - nonetheless, all of this was so bad it brought to light a new cynical era for gaming and Battlefield, where publishers would start releasing games so early in completely unfinished states.
      With this in mind, this is why 2042, BFV, etc. were such a huge deal because it marks a pattern dating all the way back to BF4. So, in my eyes, this is how long it's been going on, and I'm going to count Battlefront as well, same developers, same concepts, same problems: BF4, BF1, Battlefront 1, Battlefront 2, BFV, and now BF2042.
      BF4 was launched in Oct 2013, that makes literally 11 years of broken games at launch. While BF1 and BFV are considered great or decent now, they launched with tons of game breaking bugs, balance issues, crashing, etc. - although not like BF4, it was bad enough for myself and my friends to quit for 3-6 months waiting for fixes. With each game launch it has taken them over 1 year to fix and make more enjoyable - now with BF2042 taking the crown at over 2+ years to put in basic content, features, fixes, and remaking the maps. If they do this again, Battlefield is done for as 2042 was the most publicly-faced "expose" of what Dice/EA has done to a loved franchise.

    • @n1kobg
      @n1kobg Месяц назад

      @@willfullyinformed Desert Combat was BF2 Mod. The first DICE game was Codename Eagle if thats what you mean. There was a console only Modern Combat (if I remember corectly). The BF4 and later games are purely EAs fault because they were preasuring them for time schedules. Thats why DICE LA was formed to help because it was impossible task. It started with BF4 because before that DICE was new addition to EA & had a more liberty. For ex. DICE had 5+ years to create BF3. DICE even scratched everything & start from the beginning at some point. I remember there was a leak made on 2-3pixel phone camera in 2008-9 & it looked like Bad Company (it was single player-on some bridge).
      I assume this will happen with Vince Zampela Ripple Effect (ex.DICE LA) as well. For now they have creative freedom but it wont last. Thats EAs pattern for many if not all their studios. Bad Company games were small & took less time. They were trials for the new engine. Actually the grand rehersal was MOH2010 Multiplayer-It was made by DICE & had for the 1st time that unified Weapon customization where all weapons had same attachment (heavy barel, grip & sights).
      Fun Fact: that ability to dig trenches in BFV was a BF3 feature but was removed at the last minute because the servers wernt that powerful. With BF3 the server requirements were increased & many servers in East Europe just stopped working. I had 2-4ping in BC2 but after BF3 I cant get lower than 28-30ms & when add the physical distance the hit-reg was much worse.

Like the last dude mentioned, people are just being put in positions they aren’t really qualified to be in. They get really sensitive about their “vision” and they chase the dream of being like another project that made it big instead of making their project the best it can be.

    Coming from a career software engineer (though not game dev), this honestly just sounds like the gaming industry is joining the rest of the tech industry in terms of how products and decisions get made - the description of top heavy decision making has been standard practice in tech for forever now. The days of "talented devs" are largely over at major companies, besides there isn't that big of a delta in raw code writing skills anyway, the "talented" part usually came from a time when devs had actual decision making and design power. Generally you'll have some higher up execs that want something done and then it's product leads/managers that make the decisions for how those goals will be achieved. The devs just figure out how to build the product they're told needs to be built in the time they're given.
    Think of it like building a house - in the past for the gaming industry, the people who were actually building the house were also the ones designing and architecting the house, with help from people who have more specific skill sets for that, but generally the people building the house, who want to build the best house possible, were the ones deciding how the house gets built and how long that would take. These days, you have people who don't care how the house gets built, they just want to make the most money off of it and tell the builders what's going to be in the house, effectively stripping the builders from their power and input in the early design process of the house and putting all that power into the hands of people who have never built a house and aren't living in the houses being built and don't know how long it takes to build a house properly.

I do feel for ex DICE developers its clear they really didnt want to do this but had no to choice to leave and make their own studio when they could

    Great video. Pretty much proves that a lot of the speculation was also a pretty accurate take on the state of things behind the scenes at DICE. Many factors at play, but nothing that couldn’t have been addressed by clear direction, decisive management and open discourse. As an ex-corpo I am overly familiar with the failings of one way mismanagement, both as an employee and a member of the leadership team. The one thing that continues to concern me is EA’s direction, because they absolutely will and do set key features that a title will need to be molded around, hence live service, extraction shooter, modding sandbox Battlefield game… Bears all the hallmarks of a Competitive Analysis report as well as fundamental misread of key opportunities. Great video 👍🏼

Most managers have no idea how software is made, all they care about is meeting arbitrary deadlines and KPIs pleasing the manager above them and making money. They constantly push for faster deliveries which means delivering buggy crap, increasing technical debt ... It's the sad reality of the software industry

    Battlefield was different. It's what set it apart. Do things that Battlefield does well. Don't chase cod, do your own thing. Update your netcode, lean into the M rating, add gore and such. Have maybe even a gore system with chunks and guts. It is a Battlefield after all.

    I don't know. The state of S7, the staff that has recently left like ML and the sacking of the whole Ridgeline studio is not giving me confidence.
    Employee politics is insightful, but gamers are going to judge them by the games they release. They didn't do enough in 2042 to give it the "Battlefront 2 revival" as claimed by EA's CEO Andrew Wilson in the last investor call.
    Don't get me wrong, they have made some great improvement to the game. But S7 is a clear management call that has undone all that good will the developers had built up to Season 6. You would have to be so out of touch with the games community to think the effort on Season 7 was going to be nothing but a failure.
    Makes you now question have they really learned anything?
    My fear is EA got cocky after season S6 success. Changed plans to go all out for that WZ clone and are going to bite off more than they can chew, and the core BF experience will suffer once again.

    There's definitely things that are out of the hands of the devs and are entirely to blame on management, like the overall vision of the game, gimmicky events like the weather events, the superhind and railgun tank existing or the amount of explosive abilities, but things like vehicle balance, weapon balance, class balance, map design, all of these things are to blame on the devs. 2042 has many faults and some of it is to blame on EA, some of it is to blame on DICE management but the devs are hardly innocent and I think it's important that we still recognise the mistakes they've made and don't just shove it under the rug and blame big bad EA for every little thing.

    I would take every review of DICE on Glassdoor, ESPECIALLY the last guy with a huge grain of salt. It is VERY easy to say 'management bad' and 'us devs good' when your one of the devs, and never have been in management. The last Glassdoor review sounds like a very disgruntled employee freshly separated from the company and listening to a disgruntled employee talk about their ex-company is like listening to a child rant about their parents, is there actually truth here? Or is the kid just mad? People who have never held positions of management are always quick to blame management for things when sometimes management is just doing their job as they best see fit, I learned this bit of common sense as a teenager working my first job, noticing that some kids complained about the managers and how 'they were so mean' but when working with these kids and observing the situation, the managers were making those kids actually work, and the kids would complain.
    Obviously management does not seem to be perfect at DICE & 2042 clearly launched with some questionable changes, but these Glass Door reviews are something NOT to take as hard truth, but as one persons side of how their employment went with some expected exaggerating to support their views of how it should have been.
    At the end of the day, if a game is a failure then that falls on the shoulders of EVERYONE involved, trying to say 'oh its managements fault, us programmers are great' or 'us engineers are the good guys' here etc is just not going to fly, the ENTIRE COMPANY is what failed when the product fails and trying to act like it is just one part of the company really does not work. The consumer doesn't care who didn't do their job right, the whole company failing is what they see.

    Season 7 has been very difficult. Fun limited time game modes are very laggy. Servers can not seem to keep up. Too many times at the start of the match server crashes and I get kicked back to the lobby. Sometimes I get an error code, sometimes it just says the match has ended. Other times it says nothing just black screen and then back to the main screen.
    Yesterday I tried Frontlines, Conquest and Breakthrough. In all 3 game modes I could only get a match on redacted. After pressing cancel for the 7th time I quit. I uninstalled 2042 and installed BFv.
    It is SHOCKING how much 2042 has lost compared to BFv. According to these comments . All the devs could see it was all going wrong. know devs have put a lot of time and effort into getting 2042 up and running. The is just not good enough. I uninstalled 2042.
    Battlefield V, the last real Battlefield game.

    DICE is not solely the problem. It's mostly EA and their need to release a new game every year, usually when it's not fully complete.

      EA definitely play a big role in this as well and are even likely influencing the manager that are spoken about in these reviews. DICE's opportunity for redemption is coming though, let's hope they seize it!

      I think you have it backwards. EA is a big part of the problem, but DICE management bears the most responsibility for producing the worst and most un-Battlefield game in the franchises history.

  • @ChrisMcEvoy72
    @ChrisMcEvoy72 Месяц назад

    DICE/EA have learned nothing. EA will always put people in management positions that they believe are best suited to push their agenda forward. You can bet that the best people have left the project, and the people left steering the next game will only continue the slow death of the franchise. 2042 is an unmitigated disaster. Based on the most recent decisions with 2042 in terms of the changes and content they have released, it's clear they are not interested in listening to feedback. The next BF game will be just as bad as this one.

    I'll be 100% honest.
    EA needs to move away from using frostbite, use Unreal Engine. that way more people from different studios can assist, as it's widely used and easier to use.
    then, I'm sorry, this will piss people off. End DICE. I love DICE, and the old devs that still works there.
    But end it.
    Kill DICE, let another studio take battleifeld in, allow them to have all of DICE old resources, but have it as a clean reset. Allow new eyes to look at the franchise, allow new people to provide feedback, and use the old currently emplyeed devs to take the responses to run a new studio within EA.
    No more Frostbite, a clean sweep.
    that said, obviously EA is the trouble child that needs to go, but that aint happenin

      Frostbite engine in terms of its capabilities far outright Unreal engine. Not saying that Unreal Engine is bad, If you use frostbite engine in the right way now that its also bein getting upgraded the last 3 years, I'm sure its the better option knowing it will be used in the right degree.

    When the bar for leadership was buried 6ft deep, excavating it to ground level is an improvement, but still leaves much to be desired. If 2042s support was righting the ship, RIP DICE. Hopefully BF goes to a studio who's leadership isn't totally up it's own ass. 🖕EA🖕DICE🖕2042

    Fact: The game has been playable since season 1.
    Fact: New BF players are going to suck at the game for months.
    Fact: BF is an awful game to play when there are no good players on your team, leading to an even more awful experience.
    Fact: Having AI Bots on both sides ruins the experience even more.
    Fact: As playable BF may be, other titles are more fun to play right now.

    i dont think dice have improved anything on this game other than making the light vehicles not act like tanks. The guns still have no recoil and no spread. The rockets still do very little damage to tanks and now they even made it so the only person you will ever see running enough c4 to kill a tank is lis.
