Andrew wrote a Requiem Mass that premiered in New York on 24 February 1985 at St Thomas Church, inspired by an article he had read in the New York Times. It was about a Cambodian boy who had the option of killing his mutilated sister or being killed himself. The subsequent death of a journalist in the Northern Ireland conflict who had just interviewed Andrew, also provided a muse, and would be a subject Andrew would return to later in his career with The Beautiful Game. The Requiem Mass was dedicated to his father, William Lloyd Webber, who had died in 1982.
