- Norris Packard vs Shiro. In my opinion, the best action scene from any of the series in the Gundam franchise. MS08th was one of the first Gundam anime I ever watched and it was this grittiness and realism that got me hooked!

この場面の解説動画を視聴した上で拝見させて頂いたが・・・やはり終始ノリスのペースで戦闘が行われていた。
ガンタンクの狙撃を回避するために防音壁のある高速道路移動、相手に精神的なダメージを与えるための壁の押し返し+一喝、シロー機・カレン機・サンダース機の３機を相手に常に一対一に持ち込む地形を活かした戦術etc
最期はアイナの想い人であるシローを撃墜せず、自らを斬らせてケルゲレン脱出の障害となるガンタンクのみを排除するため行動・・・と、やっぱ強いよノリス大佐😢

カスタムはまだガトリングシールド装備だから中距離もそこそこなんとかなるけど、それも残弾気にしながらだし、機動性とかはザクよりかなりいいものの、基本的に近接戦闘装備しかないグフ系乗る、または乗れる人って中遠距離を見切りとか操縦の腕でなんとかできる人だけだと思うから必然猛者だけになりそう

The best part of the series is when Norris shows up in the gouf custom. A mobile suit is only as good as its pilot and he proved that.

@@sei-un多分ですが、使い捨てなのに新しいヒートソードを補給してもらえなかったので仕方なく劣化してしまったヒートソードを鈍器として利用していた、ということなんでしょう。
ノリス大佐…最期までサハリン家に忠誠を尽くしたお方だった…

This era of Gundam was amazing before the flight packs and Lazer spamming. Just a grind of machines in ground battle, and even having the Gundam itself didn't make you invincible, it also depended.on the pilot itself.

I think it's funny that you say this, because 08th MS Team is really the only series that fits this description. That's pretty much its identifying characteristic, and always has been. 0083 didn't really do this. 0080 didn't do this. MSG, Zeta, ZZ, none of them tackled ground combat particularly well. It IS something I wish they'd give us more of, but to make it sound like this was just the mainstay of their older work that eventually fell off is some serious revisionist history.
Maybe not the mainstay but IMO, one of the better original series and how they approached things

For the first time I realized Norris had to sacrifice himself because now that he knows the enemy pilot is Aina's lover, and killing him would break Aina's heart. Yet the mission had to be done, sacrificing himself is the only option to complete the mission and leave a future for the lovers.
Its not because of that, he think shiro guy interesting. He try his best protecting the tank even tho he newbie. Norris already sent his signal way before he know shiro was aina lover
This fight is legendary, Norris Packard and his Gouf Custom were amazing.

The thing interesting about this fight is when people complain that gundam video games are too fast and "unrealistic" when you look at this ground combat it's not exactly slow or the machines look like they are hindered by gravity, it's more grounded but they still show great agility and much better mobility than in games like Gundam Battle Operation 2

There's actually another scene I love in one of the Gundam series that is pretty awesome as well but for the love of me, I cant remember what series it is. I thought it was MS08th (which is where I came up with this alternative) but it wasnt!

That's like comparing Aerosmith to Slipknot; both are rock band but each delivers a completely different product.
Gundam has always been about the harsh depiction of war between entities with gray-area morals.
Macross is about love triangles and wearing your enemies down with the power of love and music.

Norris is such a badass, he understands his duty and doesnt shy away from it, even if it means death.

Most overrated series ever, if it wasn't for the godlike animation it would have nothing, it lacks a good story, the most important aspect of a Gundam anime. At least it still keep the theme of War is Hell.

Whether it´s the best depends on the metrics, the personal preferances ect., but i for my part think this one is definitely amonst the BEST mecha anime fights EVER.
Given how comparatively small scale it is, it´s extremely exciting, the back and forth in this fight is amazing, and the stakes deeply personal to the pilots.

Sunrise and home video, the best combo ever. It seems they save the best for last in the last few episodes. Bet the original video cassettes are fetched up these days. How often you see urban combat like this in any Gundam works or mecha show in general?

@@mechanomics2649 I’m currently watching unicorn for the first time. I’m going to episode 4 and so far the series sucks in every term. I hope it gets better but we’ll see. Having recently watched gundam 00 and being extremely annoyed by that character Saji crossroad and his equally annoying love interest, the first thing I noticed from unicorn is the same annoyance coming from Banagher Links, “I just want her to need me” or “people are gonna die because of war” crap. I wasn’t particularly big on Setsuna but at least he understood that he needed to fight and kill to get the world that he wanted. But these Saji crossroad and Banagher Links, all they do is whine and annoy and get people killed because they were trying to avoid fights.

the music, the weight of the mobile suits, the intensity... I dunno man, 8th MS team is one of the best gundam animes out there, I like the war in the pocket too, pretty cool battles aswell

8th ms team is the best gundam series. The soundtracks are amazing as well. After watching all of gundam series starting in the 70s up until now, this series is the most realistic to obey the law of physics and the conservation of momentum and the conservation of mass.

I would argue that it's the best ground combat MS battle ever. They do so much with terrain and the mobile suits actually move like walking humanoid robots. One of my pet peeves in Gundam are when they have all the MS just floating around. Like say the recent Witch From Mercury episode. Or just have them fly on Earth just like they're in zero G in space like so much of Seed once Kira got the Freedom.
There are rivals for space battles but on ground it's hard to compare.

The original gouf has a heat saber that can cut through the gundam shield. I never understood why this gouf custom saber is not heated. He would have finished both the gundam and guntank, and made it back to base if he has a proper heat saber. The only explanation is plot armor, I guess.
This Gouf is a later, cheaper model, Zeon is long past burning through their limited resources, so this gouf drops the magma saber for a cheaper option
@@ecth97 I thought Gouf Custom didn't used the heat saber because it was using too much power from the generator and most aces preferred the mobility over heated saber
Its a later model towards the end of the war. No resources etc.
Plus there is only one Ramba Ral!!

Behind the scenes reason it was to make it less powerful and help separate it from Ramba. The whole point of 08th ms team is to have weaker suits with slower fighting. At least until the end with the big zam 2.0
I kind of like the modern ones, but I'm still waiting for a scene that surpasses this one in my point of view.
There have been some good ones (I do like the Unicorn series) but given the time etc, this is still my favourite due to the 'realism'

顔のパイプは口の排熱口に繋がっているからエンジンの排熱に使われているだろうからそこまで問題ないのかも？長時間の行動は無理ってだけで。
車だって冷却水やラジエーターがなくったって多少は走れる訳だし。
everything from the dialogue, all the way down to the soundtrack in this scene were absolutely perfect.
