i love the cover "which one will die" and it pointed right at the one that does.

Morrison mentioned in an interview with Kevin Smith that he feels like Image sort of saved comics from the pretensions of his generation of writers who he described as these “romantic poets with our frilly cuffs.”

This kinda reminds me: I'd love to see the Allred X-Statix on here. I'm sure you've gotten that request before and maybe mentioned it, but I can't remember with my spongy swiss-cheese brain.

Yes! I would love to see their take on it. I remember when that book first came out it was pretty mind blowing. Definitely not your parent's X-Force. It was a weird combination of attraction and repulsion for me. I was drawn to the story and art, but it took me a while to get over how this fit in with the rest of the X-Books. I thought it was so out of place and off putting. Of course nowadays, I think it's the best run of Xbooks from that period.

Such a good comic. Love these kind of quirky books. All of Morrison's Doom Patrol run was real good but this in particular is so sharp and incisive.

Great parody of X-Force and most of Image teams in the 90s, I still love Liefeld’s art no matter what people say about it.

I've been watching your videos long enough now that I understand why these parodies are so funny, and I'm pissng myself.

So funny! I wish doom force had more drawings that hid their feet or women with u-shaped spines

I'd been laughing my ass off for the whole episode - that comic is comedy gold

Scratch is a Wolverine parody with Scratch being another word for money. The Crying Boy is a parody of the painting The Blue Boy by Thomas Gainsborough, even though "Blue" refers to the color of the outfit in the painting. There is a panel in Doom Force depicting how Crying Boy stands that reminds me of the painting. Shasta the Living Mountain is just a parody of the bulk/tank characters that Liefeld like Badrock. Spinner is just the adult version of Dorothy Spinner who was a pre-teen in Doom Patrol at that time. Flux is a mystery. I guess she is a parody of how all women heroes are drawn in Rob Liefeld books. I always assumed that the pattern of her outfit was little balloons but now I am thinking it is enlarge version of black semen. This ties into Morrison's comic The Filth and the origin of Black Semen.

I think that Doom Force was a future version of Doom Patrol with Dorothy from the 90's Doom Patrol team being their leader. When I read this issue, I didn't know enough about Image comics, so I just read it straight rather than parody. Very strange.

    • @molnet999

it's not only an image comics parody, doom force compared to doom patrol is supposed to be similar to how x-force were the cool edgy 90's x-men group

I think "Sctratch" is like what many have said- a "Branded money grab critique." But I also think it is a funny pun on his "claws." Scratch is a character that is making fun of an Image character that steals from Wolverine. Hilarious shit. Another think to note is the amount of teeth these characters have. LOL.

the 'Crying Boy' was a painting back in the 70s & 80s that people believed caused house fires, fun fact!

I think scratch is just to make fun of how someone on every image team had "claw" in their name. Maybe I'm wrong. But this book is hilarious!

Ed, my good man, today I received my complete set of
    Hip Hop Family Tree
Fantagraphics Treasury Edition. I finally pulled the trigger on all 4 volumes while I pre-ordered 5 copies of Red Room... And that, folks, is what a stimulus check is supposed to be used for... LoL
I've previously read and admired it as there are many like them... but these are MINE. Can I ask...How much would you would charge me to small sketch all 4 volumes... if Heroes Con happens this year? Like a simple 3inch sketch in black marker. And I assure you they will NEVER leave my possession without a fight as that huge gun safe in the living room ain't for show... LoL
Jim, my good man, I'm looking to acquire some of your work that I'm totally fucking amazed by. To drop a hint... I just bought a new fangled LED blacklight... and to my delight I found a copy of the FCBD Street Angel's Dog I forgot I had, in beautiful condition no less.
God willing and the creek don't rise, I'll see y'all at Heroes Con in June.

I figured the Scratch bubbles were scratch and sniff areas you'd like you'd see in Nintendo Power and whatnot back in those days, to emphasize what a gimmick Rob's stuff was.
