    For a few years I worked in the building that they filmed the scenes of Harry's bedroom in When Harry Met Sally.

    Loved Nora Ephron's films. When Harry met Sally is superb. It was so different at the time and great seeing interesting female characters. People would laugh at me for loving her trilogy but that's because they're used to generic romcom garbage with 1 dimensional characters and a clear beginning middle and end

    Multiplicity is an underrated rom com. But When Harry Meet Sally is my favorite rom com.

    I remember when _The Mindy Project_ 📺 started and she had an obsession with rom-coms. Don't know if it they kept thst when the show went to Hulu?
    Anyway, Ephron's ground-breaking influence is unmistakable, but my problem with her super-White films was that they traded one set of tropes for another - and it *still* ends with 'Happily Ever After'.
    If anything, _Crazy Ex-Girlfriend_ succeeded in doing what Ephron's films tried to do (IMHO).

      You had to bring colour into it?

    • @BuddyL
      @BuddyL 4 года назад +7

      @@thedamnedatheist 😒 Ephron left colour out of it - just they way rom-coms before hers would only portray women as simpletons.
      That's how change happens, ❄: you acknowledge the problem, then you *act* on it.

    A good romcom is a rarity. Most usually involve a scene where one of the characters acts the fool for no good reason or creates a flimsy misunderstanding, and that's the point I turn it off.

    • @grubert3535

      AvangionQ I feel that Amelie and As Good As It Gets are really good romcoms. Very complex characters compared to a lot of other romcoms.

    interesting at the same time as the 3 films mentioned there were a number of indie Rom Coms that focused on Gen Xers (the films mentioned are very Boomer films).. that did't treat the man as a complete jerk.. films like Ed's Next Move, Kicking & Screaming, Glory Daze and Next Stop Wonderland ..

    • @bobsolo55
      @bobsolo55 4 года назад

      Agreed. I felt like she really oversold these 3 movies as being deeper and more innovative than they were There were other comedies before this that already made characters more than 1 dimensional and had complexities as well.

    Some of my failed love stories are similar to a movie. Man starts building time machine, meets woman outside Area 51, gets in high speed chase on Vegas hwy with girlfriend's boss. Lol

    Why is the Qatari government funding the creation of videos about romantic comedies? Do you know where your money is going, Qatari government. Qatari. Qatari. Atari. Hmm, never noticed that.

    Remember guys buying food for a girl automatically equals sexual favours.
    A movie equals a handy J
    Dinner equals a Bj
    Dinner plus a movie equals sexytime.
    Dinner plus a movies plus chocolate n flowers equals a blumpkin

    But were Nora Ephron's men really men? You know, it was acting and they were acting like women. they were sort of gay but for some reason, you know, for the plot, they liked girls anyway. Maybe they were confused about their gender identity or whatever. But after watching this video it makes me realize how contrived and ideological those movies were. If you want real life, think Kobe Bryant: the national hero raper (yeah, I looked up that story. He had smacked her around and tore her up really badly. Everybody knew what happened. The League jumped him and rescued him from himself. Wow, what a career he went on to have. that guy was a real man).
