I think to some extent, we all do. For me personally, it is the removal of excess skin. I lost over 140lbs and that has negatively affected the way I view my body because I can SEE some of the muscle and definition, but it is blanketed by layers and layers of skin. I think that the comparison game we play is difficult and shifts throughout our lives. I do find Summer's point about age and "aging out of beauty" to be poignant. I taught my mother how to use eye shadow pallettes (I'm a licensed cosmetologist) and there are little to no tutorials or any tools out there for women in her age group. It is almost as if she doesn't exist because she's not within the confines of the industry's target market. People do not exist on a sliding scale of designed obsolescence, and it is sad to see that parts of the world are systematically built for that thought process to occur and come to fruition.

I'm a 40 plus transgender woman who by no means passes as a woman.
Outside of the constant verbal abuse, fear of using public toilets and being misgendered by nearly everyone I meet, within the transgender community the pressure isn't just to pass but to be sexually attractive.
I've considered surgery on nearly every aspect of my body, not necessarily to be sexually attractive, but simply to be able to exist in my skin and have the freedom to self express without constantly being reminded of my appearance.
It's hard and can be soul crushing to go through life treated as a fraud in 'woman's face'. So, in the end I will probably have plastic surgery out of necessity and to simply blend in.

Some comments below seem to point fingers and criticize the women who undergo plastic surgery (labeling them as "vain" and "stupid"), but I think it's important to note how the plastic surgery phenomenon is deeply rooted in US imperialism/occupation of Korea (which is touched upon starting @3:58). It speaks volumes about what Koreans perceive to be "beautiful" today and the still existing glorification of Western traits and ideals as things to emulate. To add, though there are more Korean women getting these surgeries today, a growing number of men are also actively seeking and going through cosmetic procedures, too.

This is an element I see siting atop something even deeper. Go further to look at the dominant economic system. A system that thrives only on exploitation, alienating people from their natural psychological needs in place of being a cog only producing and consuming. The more unhappy you are, the more markets are created to be serviced. The more services and products you consume instead taking more slow and natural treatments, the more easily you are coerced into participating beyond meeting survival needs. So take things out of their natural element, creating a problem of dissatisfaction or pain, misrepresent the problem as something with a purchasable remedy that has intense short-term stimulus but rapidly waning long-term effects. Rinse and repeat.

Asking a question like that to a plastic surgeon about how it will effect kids mental health is redundant. He is a plastic surgeon. His goal isn't to enhance patient natural beauty or help correct issues, but to perform massive surgery on a patient to profit from them. Many people focus was to get one or two surgery, but once they hear a doctor saying that your forehead is too big, your chin is too short, ect it causes the patient to be very self conscious. Manipulation = gaining more profit. South Korea need a reality check and psychologists. The society they live in is tainted.

As an adult woman in her late 20s, I still suffer and I feel the anxiety about my body is getting worse. I talk more openly about wanting plastic surgery. I know though that plastic surgery is not a lifelong answer, nor is it a healthy one. But I just want to be seen as beautiful and as valuable as my sister and other pretty girls like her. I want to know what it's like to be loved for my appearance. I recognize that's shallow, but your physical appearance is what everyone sees. Not many people get to know you personally, and see your intelligence. But everyone can value you based on how pretty you are. I want to be beautiful too.

My previous girlfriend whilst I was living in America told me my eyes looked scary. I think she was joking but that really lowered my self esteem.. As for my face, it's very square. My mom always makes me have my hair up, but that just makes my insecurities worse. Everyone can see every inch of my facial structure. I have arguments about it a lot because my mom thinks I look unkempt trying to hide my face in my hair all the time. The possibilty of having plastic surgery hadn't occurred to me until one of my friends got her nose done. I laughed it off and told her she looked completely fine before, but all in all it stuck with me.
It's been a difficult journey. It still is. But despite all that I've tried to accept the features that make me unique. Even if I think they're undesirable. You may dislike your appearance, through your own observation or the fault of others, but I betcha there's loads of people- So many that we can't individually count- that believe you're the most beautiful person they've ever had the chance of meeting. I haven’t liked the shape of my nose since I was about 13. I also am insecure about how wide my face is. Even if I’m still trying hard to accept these things, I still find weeks where it’s quite difficult, and like many other girls, it is constantly brought up to my attention.
I’ve also been a kpop fan for about 5 years, and I’ve definitely felt insecure when watching kpop idol girls. Of course, the argument against my comparison with these idols is that I should know by now that I don’t have an idol lifestyle, and I am not Korean, so why should I care?
But the thing is, being a fan for so long makes these body types and face types almost subconsciously embedded in you, that if you are insecure in yourself, the comparison with these idols comes automatically-like it’s second nature. The standard of beauty that is instilled in the kpop that I love so much gives me the impression that those who should be looked up *the most* are those who are conventionally “beautiful”. In fact, the inadvertent statement is more exaggerated by the fact that variety shows, kdramas-even the ads on news networks-explicitly advertise that people *should only aim* to fit in what is conventional.
And sure, I respect someone’s freedom to change their appearance because they want to. If that is what they want, then go for it. But I also respect the freedom to NOT change one’s appearance as well, if they don’t want to. Regardless of my own preferences for beauty, I respect the right for someone to appear in any shape or size they want to be in, because that is what makes them happy.

While I get that this is not the point of the video, the framing of plastic surgery as a frivolous has its downsides too. I understand that it is harmful to those who use it simply as a band aid on deeper issues of body insecurity. It can be a life saving procedure for trans folk where Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) can mitigate suicidal ideation, and reduce street harassment. For people who fall well outside the norm of beauty standards, various surgeries can allow them to move through society more easily. To be clear the real problem is the societal systems that insist that create standards of appearance and punish those who fall out side them. Framing those who use surgery as a method of trying to survive these systems as vapid, required more thought.
The other angle to consider is that the piece frames the potential for permanent damage as a self evident reason that surgery is bad. When people should be free to do what they want with their bodies regardless of the risk as long as they understand the risks and consent to all the possible outcomes. Again would people need to make a lot of those decisions if society was less restrictive on what is and isn't beautiful? No. But painting a coping mechanism as the problem is not a good solution either.

Whatever it is that make you change...Pls. do think about it a million times before u reach a decision that will change your life forever...P.S. God bless those who do!✌️✌️✌️😘😘😘💓💓💓

Did anyone else feel super frustrated to tears that the doctor did not give a single care about how this affects women's self-esteem and instead defended it by saying how plastic surgery could help with insecurities? I mean, of course, he's not worried, he's making money. His ego probably got threatened, so he defended plastic surgery. It's unfair that men are not put under a microscope like women. Jenni has nerve damage, for crying out loud!

that's a reason why i hated the mainstream kpop groups... they are always being pressured to look nice and presentable.
indie groups or single artist don't really have the pressure, since they don't make the big bucks for the companies and not exportable, unless it's from a K-drama soundtrack.

That American chick is crazy, and looked as good if not better before her surgery. She's gonna end up being one of those doll faced women in a couple years. I need plastic surgery on my body because of trauma I suffered years ago but nobody really specializes in doing those procedures because there is so much more money on the cosmetic side.

Uuuuf!!!! you gotta be brave to perform liposuction in someone's neck, I've seen plastic surgeons performing it on a patient with Madelung disease (massive adipose tumours all over the body) and they told me that a single wrong movement can disect a vase or the respiratory tract... Definetely wouldn't do it for a slight curve under my chin, like the girl on the video!

in histry ever people want to be buitiful.
    that was human's permanent,nature instinct.
also i agree human surffered by is seriously wrong.
but that can be a reason to blaim people who has unconsciousely tend to love beauty
or make a decision to have surgery and anticipate to have the goodwill by other people.
plus beauty is not a absolute vertue
kind,manner,wisdom....there are many other charms except appearance.
    that is same in korea
    even though who is agly.
but if he or she has other charm.
other people will accept in their group.
