I was 12 in the 70s when the Mall opened up. It quickly became a place to hang out and meet others from different schools. We could ride the bus, shop eat and get home in time for supper. Good times.
Very cool!
I studied in the MSU in 2014 as an international student. I went shopping in the mall many times. This visual tour just reminded me of those happy days. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing!
At late as 1980 the mall was just the north-south part that faces Glenstone. The land that became the western extension of the mall was all cornfields.
It seems to be holding on with the recent transition to online shopping.
Great walking tour
Thanks. Finally starting to get all the footage I have taken while traveling uploaded.
Great tour. Be careful in Springfield-crime is through the roof!!
I was just visiting my parents. They live in NIxa.
Lol, Ill be fine in Springfield. Try living in Illinois😅The Crimw rates Dont Compare i promise u!!1
@@franklyspeekin I think it depends on where you are at.
I remember when the mall was only the part that runs North-South, parallel to Glenstone. Expanded I think in 1981 or 82, prior to that all the land that became the new part of the mall was all cornfields!! hahahaa and Battlefield Road was the un-official south end of town, National didn't extend south of Battlefield, Fremont did but it was two-lane country blacktop road with no street lights, and the 4 corners of Battlefield and Campbell was all un-developed pasture. Fun times. KHS class of '83
Did you go to school with Brad Pitt?
@@CityArtTravel He was a year ahead of me, class of '82. My only claim to being almost-famous is that I nearly kicked his ass one day before school hahahaha
I’m in Fayetteville, AR. One day I took a day trip to Springfield and I liked this mall better than the one I have here. I went to that little Great American Cookies stand before the dining pavilion, didn’t sit too well while driving…
Thanks for sharing!
Yeah of course. I’ve also seen NorthPark in Joplin.
Muito bom rever estive aí em 2018....❤❤❤❤
Thank you
👍🙂
That’s my home mall.
My parents live in Nixa. The mall management wasn't happy I was recording. I bet they sure enjoy the free advertising they are getting from RUclips now.
Security at malls always makes such a big deal about cameras while filming and watching us the whole time…..never made since to me why they care. Also they make it easy enough to hide cameras now easiest way to do walking tours is with your phone in a front pocket with the camera faced out.
I have a GoPro adapter now, so it can be clipped to the front of the shirt/backpack.
I once tried to make a vlog of myself inside of a high-end mall, and no one cared. Obviously, the focus was on myself rather than other people, but still...
(I never actually published said vlog, it was my first attempt and I was embarrassed.)
Just another "poors' mall." Not one single high street store in that dumpy town.
Most bigger cities do not have high end stores.
@@CityArtTravel Macy's? Nordstrom? Banana Republic? Not even a Gap!
@@CityArtTravel And downtown is worse...IS there even a merchant downtown besides bars, coffee, and weed?
@@timrodrick8438 There was a gap there at one time….a limited and abercrombie as well, one time even a theatre.
I beg to differ. There are actually some nicer stores near the entrance at the beginning of the video; this walkthrough unfortunately didn't cover those outdoor-facing shops.
Chico's (0:07 / 0:37) and White House Black Market (0:15; right of Versona) are fairly upscale. I bought a $220 velvet blazer from WHBM back in October; full-price WHBM dresses are usually in the $150-$200 range (at the time of writing). These price points are comparable to Banana Republic's women's offerings, and even several Nordstrom departments.
Battlefield Mall used to have a Banana Republic too. Google Street View data from 2015 and 2018 shows one on the exterior part of the mall; there's actually a Lululemon there now according to their website (and Google Street View data from 2022). If they can sustain stores like Chico's, WHBM, and Lululemon, then this isn't a "poors' mall" as you seem to suggest.
