Living in Ireland for more than 10 years made me always think that my blood is green :)..... thanks for the share..... keep up the good work... Great video. My parents are both Irish. I’m amazed at how I use some of these. Like, I’ll let you go. And thanking bus drivers. And more. I’m in Canada.
You are not too many Irish pubs today that play live music I remember years ago in New York City on third avenue they had live music playing once a week and everybody used to run there and get in there to get a good seat sit there for a couple hours drinking after they left they put the old jukebox on what Irish music those days of really gone not many left today but RUclips brings it all back again so we could listen to it and enjoy ourselves just excellent music ❤️🍀🇨🇮💯🎶🍀
Many years ago, when I was stationed outside of Washington DC, I attended a conference at a hotel near downtown Washington. I chanced across the street to an Irish Pub to check out the lunch offering. Guinness and corned beef sandwiches! Live music also! I often wondered it this might have the pub in the the movie "Patriot Games". I still enjoy my Guinness, though it isn't a nice as a pint from the tap!
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic It'll probably be the WHOLE town as they don't know Irish music and our Irish pub is just as worse:::))) Thankfully I bought a full set of uilleann pipes made from the famous Johnny Bourke and bought from the famous Crehan family:::)) Cheer's
heaven to my ears, best thing is, I could be having the shittest day ever, for whatever reason, the instant I start blasting trad. Irish tunes or songs by Gaelic Storm, whatever has ruined the day no longer matters. can't wait to experience this vibe in person in my upcoming first ever trip to Ireland (or anywhere overseas for that matter) this July-August. Four weeks of heaven, here I come!
Enjoyed a session at McHugh's in early June. Great entertainment and hospitality. If you're in the neighborhood, also check out the sessions at Egan's. And if you're interested in the local history, visit Thomas O'Briens's Pub.
I beg you! Please write me the guitar chords of the first song. I beeeeeeg *.* ( i found Nightingale but it was so diffrent from this version, and this version is a masterpiece)
Hi, I'm not sure, sorry. The second tune "Hollybush" is the first track on my album check it out here - kirstenallstaff.com/index.php/gallowglass Kirsten :)
Hi Scottish-Irish Folk, The first tune is a Sean Ryan composition called "The Nightingale". The second tune is also commonly known as the "Three Little Drummers".
Sorry, I know this is an old video but I've always wondered: How does everyone know this music so well? I know about 20 irish tunes well enough to jam on the banjo to, which isn't super impressive but I've never even heard these two. Do they decide which songs to play ahead of time so people can practice at home before a session? Or does everyone there know 1000 songs perfectly at any given moment?
Everyone learns the same tunes, so if you know the tune you play along. Ear music is amazing, many musicians know 1000's of tunes with no need for sheet music or reminders.
True . My session in my city .. we all learn the same tunes and sets .. we make sure we communicate what new ones we learn , we play and share , we record the sessions on our phone and we can learn them on home the ones we don’t know and play them the next week . I started leaning Irish music in 2015 and what started with one tune by memory “ the butterfly “ has grown into hundreds of tunes and sets memorized , I love the freedom - no sheetmusic . If you work hard to Learn the tunes it pays off !
This is fantastic. I'm dying to get over across the pond again and would love to visit McHugh's. It's also on my bucket list to shake Decky's hand - my favorite rebel singer of all time! Does he still perform at the pub?
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic I'm the least optimistic person around but I'm hoping for a healthy and speedy recovery for the entire session community once this is past us, and the fortune to catch Declan in person someday!

It's good because it isn't too fast. Easy going and still ok to dance to.
Glad you liked it !

You'd get away with Am (but A5 really) alternating as appropriate with G (but G6 or Em7 according to taste).
The Nightingale (Dan Dowd's) + The Holly Bush (Jigs)

Good question
Also the tunes are very formulaic and similar to one another, which makes it easier to memorise and/or play along.
What's the name of the song?
It's the Nightingale and Hollybush
What is the second tune called? First one being the nightingale sean ryan jig. Adam Beanstock
The Hollybush?
The hollybush
Any videos of harmonica player Tommy Basker
I can ask if...Caroline Corr is there?
What did you do to record that so clearly? What recorder, mics, etc?
Thanks! It was a zoom h4.

A tune is a tune, you can learn it from any instrument :)
