I got as close as I could lol...Just bought the Gibson Les Paul "November Burst" Slash Edition and it was delivered yesterday....it's his signature series Gibson with that finish on it....wasn't cheap, but totally worth it.
This is actually part of a trilogy of songs (Estranged and Don't Cry are the other two parts). The lyrics and the videos of the trilogy are based on a short story by Del James called "Without You". Basically the story is about a band called Suicide Solution and their vocalist, Mayne Mann, who is of course supposed to be Axl Rose. Mayne has a girlfriend or wife, Elizabeth. So SS are on tour, and it's the last stop. A tour's last stop most often means one or both of two trends - first, that they end (and start) in their hometown; second, that it's the best show of the tour. Mayne wants to celebrate after the show with Elizabeth, but she's called out of town on business. Mayne's mad, so he picks up a groupie after the show, and they're hooking up in his hotel room. Matter of fact I think there are two girls, they're having a threesome. The drummer comes by, and Mayne offers him a girl; he turns him down. Then it turns out Elizabeth's trip was cancelled at the last moment. She finds out what room he's in, and goes there to surprise him. Mayne hears a knock, thinks his drummer is back, so he answers the door nude with a girl on each arm, nude as well. He's looking right at his wife, and she takes off. He gets dressed and gives chase. She loses him, gets home, and when he finds her, she's shot herself in the head. That is why only half of her face is shown during the funeral.
@michael tabor thanks for that. I used to own the book, (“The Language of Fear” by Del James) but I couldn’t remember all of the story. Probably because it was 30 years ago (that doesn’t seem possible). I “had” to get the book, because I wanted to know why the mirror was in the coffin. You told all but the end, how he then goes on to pour alcohol(?) all over the house and lights it on fire while he plays the piano. Good book, if you enjoy horror type short stories.
Thanks for the shout out as always!! ❤️🇺🇸 Love y'all and the reaction!! You know I have to get you in your feelings every once in a while!! Like the others said in the comments, many more good songs from GNR. Don't you cry is a must!
This was my dad's favourite song by his favourite band. He passed away last year due to cancer and GNR always reminds me of him so always excited to see people reacting to them and their songs. Great reaction.
Axl Rose (frontman) is a classicly trained pianist from childhood. He started writing this song at age 18 in 1981..there is a piano demo here on RUclips from 1986. Finally in 1991 here recorded/relased his finished recording which hit #3 on the Billboard charts in 1992
I love this song and I loved your reaction! Your the first reaction of this song this song that really got the message of the song and how the rain relates to life’s ups and downs! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤❤❤❤
Axl Rose's voice is absolutely ridiculous. His vocal range is astonishing. I saw Guns N' Roses in concert in 1991 and 30 years later I still count it among the top 3 concerts I have ever been too.
The marriage represents the beginning of the new life together. The funeral represents the end of that life together. All the stuff in between are two Gibson Les Paul guitar solos. The clear message is that guitar solos are life. This is why reactors should never pause or talk during guitar solos.
Yes! The marriage is the beginning of new life, and the funeral represents the end of things. Life, whether by death do us part, or by divorce, but death. And yes, divorce is a "death". I know by personal experience. There is a part of someone who dies when they are on the receiving end of that divorce.
That's what you call a high budget video, you all are probably the smartest reacters I've seen and I've watched alot of them, lol.Just want to send out a prayer and a blessing for you both, and keep doing what you're doing because your insights are spot on.❤️
Slash's solos are God-like. His musicality, melody and phrasing are better than any thousand-notes-a-minute shredder out here. It's why, 30 years later, I still remember every note of every solo he played on the 'Use Your Illusion' records.
React to "Don't Cry" by GnR... it's the first chapter to this trilogy. You just reacted to the middle chapter. "Estranged" is the third chapter. "Don't Cry" is my favorite GnR song and it features the late, great Shannon Hoon... the deceased lead singer of the 90s band "Blind Melon".
One of the most iconic guitar solos ever created. It's great when you see Mel feel the lyrics and then the song grabs the both of yall. Again another great reaction guys. Guns and roses definitely have alot of stuff for yall and also check out more Marilyn Manson Godsmack and many more
Those high angle shots of Slash playing outside were done with a helicopter no drones back then. G n R had some great videos back then. My Favorite song from them is Estranged and the vid for that is awesome. Slash standing on the piano is a classic.
Just make sure it's the studio version and not live. Not saying GnR are bad live because they're awesome... but the live version of this song just doesn't sound right to me.
It's kinda cool to see yall feel that song...you all caught me off guard as I thought you would not like it..I guess never judge a book by its cover.... Great job and my hats off to the both of you! My favorite part is how yall swaying together ...made me smile and made my day.And when she yelled whooo....the best. That girl was straight out feeling it....
1 - I love how rain in this video is a total, life-ending reason to panic. I get the metaphor, but it's still funny in context. 2 - best guitar solo of all time.
Great, great reaction. Man that guitar solo couldn't have been more perfect than it was already. That guitar was crying. Damn. I am 72 years old and there are very few guitar solos that can light a candle to Slash's in this one.
Great reaction! I loved Guns n' Roses as a teenager and still consider myself a fan 25 years later. November Rain is a great song, with an epic video. Kind of Falling in Reverse videos nowadays. Anyway... I love Slash's solos! Estranged is another epic song by them. Or Ciril War. Has anyone told you yet, that Ronnie Radke from Falling in Reverse reacted to your reaction of his song earlier today on Twitch? Usually you can watch the recording of the stream a few hours later. OK, so here goes. I've been a life long Guns N' Roses fan. My favourite band ever. I've seen/heard Novemeber Rain countless number of times. I've seen many, many reaction videos to this song. Today is the first time I have ever cried to this song whilst I watched your reaction (especially Mel's).
Just found you two and subscribed. I love watching a beautiful, funny couple get into new music. Mel I heard a little of your singing voice and it sounds like you're quite the singer yourself! Happy to be apart of your squad! 💜💚🖤
GNR is a very prolific band. They paved the way for so many bands after them. in my opinion they were the bridge from 80s hair band music to early 90s grunge. And Axl Rose is such a talented man.
i remember when this video came out....MTV still played music and this was in full rotation....also this song with Elton John at the MTV music awards, AMAZING
I remember waiting that night for Headbanger’s Ball to come on at midnight for the premiere of this video. I already loved the song, so I knew the video would be good, but this was mind blowing.
My husband faced 7 cancers and I was right there by his side until he passed in 2015.. I know I am a little bit late to this one, but this is soooo true, rain comes down and changes everything. This is one of his favorite songs too. Keep up the good work.
You are watching this video out of order. It's a trilogy of videos telling a story. The three songs in order are "Don't Cry", "November Rain" and "Estranged"
Who cares, let them enjoy the music. Music is the one thing that can break boundaries from country to blues, rap to metal, the very fact that we can connect bob our heads together and enjoy great music and could help end this ridiculous culture war. Music doesn’t have a race it’s what ever gets your head movin and your body grovin. Music does not have an order, any Musician will tell you that. Go ask any rocker or metal band that you want order like slipknot or korn, the answer they give may not be the one you’ll like. I see your point but like a child that discovers a new thing in life you just let them enjoy the moment.
I understand that...Coma is on Use Your Illusion II. All the other songs including the 2 versions of Don't Cry are "support" songs...side stories if you will...November Rain, Estranged and Coma are the only three songs pushing the ten minute mark. Coincedence....I think not.
Alright I guess I gotta break it down....November Rain...A surprising death..."No one really knows who's letting go today" Estranged...trying to carry on " I don't know how you're supposed to find me lately when you took everything, said you took everything from me." Coma...couldn't deal...tried suicide...and is hanging in the balance..."Please understand me. I'm climbing through the wreckage of all my twisted dreams and this cheap investigation just can't stifle all my screams and I'm waiting at the cross roads waiting for you...waiting for you....Where are you?" Not trying to be a dick about it but that's just how it is....As for xonk"s comment....Sometimes Albums tell a story and there's order to a story. It may be straight forward or like a Tarantino movie but there's order none the less.
Remember, this was back when labels were willing to spend a million dollars on a video. Just check out GnR's 'Estranged'. That is the epitome of indulgent 90s music videos.
Subbed. So many good aspects to this. You presented yourselves well, then did the thing so many miss and let the music flow, THEN followed up with excellent insight. It's a great formula and sadly not more present in reactions I see from some other reactors.
If you haven’t yet, Mr. Brownstone. 🎼🎶🎶🎶🎸🎤🔥🤘😎here comes that screaming agony from Slash. Axl on the piano- this is my favorite GNR song. The instrumental tells us what the lyric says......thank you GNR. ❤️November Rain.
This is the second song in a video trilogy starting with Don't Cry and ending with Estranged..... Based on the short story "Without You" by Del James. There is A LOT of context with the videos... But the song itself was one that was around for years and before Appetite for Destruction. There are some great demo versions avbailable and its cool to see the song evolve to this magnum opus.
I truly appreciate your reaction to this video. My wife and I have been married for 22 years, and we have been going through a tragedy the last 5-6 years, and that is the conversion of an old Baptist Church into a soap making retail store. We didn't have November Rains moments until then. Malevolence was brought to us from our local Borough, so you are correct, you don't know when that November rain is going to come and you cannot prepare for it. For us, it came on January 24, 2018, and it continues. Multiple lawsuits, corrupt courts, etc. Another interesting, though related comment from a Guns N' Roses vidio is the quote from "Civil War" video, in which G'N'R quotes, "What we have here is a failure to communicate".
FUN FACT.....YOU GUYS ARE THE ONLY REACTION GUYS WHO GOT THE ANALOGY OF THE RAIN AND HOW THAT CHANGES LIFE SIMILE.....BRAVO....KUDOS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.....FINALLY....SOMEBODY GETS IT

Yes he is, and he literally showed up that day, and did all of his solos for this song.

Absolutely!

He is! One of my Top 5s guitarists for sure.

The song is epic. My favorite of theirs.
Mine too... Though I've always wondered about where everyone parked their cars outside of that church during slash's first solo

I've Got to say you Folks bring a New Energy to Reacting to Music in General but Especially to this song November Rain. You Guys Rock!!!!! T$
