    Mainly for downhill, i feel like riding the clutch is a little excessive. I’d personally recommend staying in neutral and feathering the break, keeping the clutch from being engaged. To re engage in gear, put it in second once you hit a bit above you’re idle rpm and let the clutch back out. Excellent video, just wanted to add a personal tip to anyone this can help

    • @ZONDOdriving
      @ZONDOdriving  10 месяцев назад +5

      Thank you. You have a valid point. I think I'd be more likely to use that technique if I was going down a long steep hill with no traffic ahead of me or if the traffic was moving at a decent pace.

    • @eugenepanov8164
      @eugenepanov8164 5 месяцев назад +21

      I used to feel the same way but the thing is, you'll always stall and you're just going to have to accept that. Accept that you will feel silly when it happens. We are not perfect.
      I'm a year into driving a manual and I stalled twice today going up a dirt mountain road with traffic going 1-2mph.

    • @pn-l1403
      @pn-l1403 5 месяцев назад +1

      Happened to me quite a few times. A couple of times at hills, slow moving traffic, and traffic lights. A little embarrassing and annoying while holding back a couple of cars but yeah... Just apologised and kept going 😅
      1st year of manual

    •  4 месяца назад +5

      It’s good to fear I guess
      I stalled yesterday for an entire stoplight. It happens! Take a deep breath and start again. Don’t rush yourself and always remember, You’re driving the car. No one else!

    • @NatsuTitan
      @NatsuTitan 4 месяца назад +1

      First time I stalled was in a 4 lane intersection. Luckily the guy behind me had a manual too and was just giving the thumbs up. Mistakes happen and people know that. Don’t panic or rush. Stalling is natural! 2-3 years later I won’t pay attention and stall 😂

    • @ipo7596
      @ipo7596 2 месяца назад +1

      Try to practice in a flat surface and bring the clutch up to where the car vibrates so much it's about to stall. Get used to that feeling and immediately clutch down everytime that happens. But it's safer to clutch down a bit earlier before the shaking happens.

    Nice video
    But like to see you do videos on how to slow down at roundabouts and junctions. Something I struggled was with when I would move down from gear 3 to gear 2 I would panic, car would jolt or end up coasting. Slowing down/gearing down smoothly
    I also think positioning on the road is another issue for me. Can't really tell how far I am away from a car beside me or when car is incoming on a two way road. Usually end up guessing/steering without really thinking how close/far I am from another car.
    I have this same issue with parking on left. I kinda guess to see if I am near the kerb or not. I don't really calculate/judge it properly. I can only check once I park on the left and look at side mirror to see how far I am from kerb.

    I thought that staying in gear in heavy traffic was bad. So the proper way is to just shift into neutral. What's the correct way? I really need to know.

    • @ZONDOdriving
      @ZONDOdriving  4 месяца назад +2

      The correct way is to do what you find easiest for you. As long as the car is controlled.

    • @chawkleton4665

      If you’re at a stop light and it’s taking a while, it’s best to sit in neutral. However if you’re in traffic like this which is constantly stopping and starting it’s completely ok to stay in first and hold the clutch

    • @marclenraymagdaraog691
      @marclenraymagdaraog691 Месяц назад

      I mean if you put logic in to it, you're not going to stall in neautral ever.. and you can rest more. if you're on First gear or two you're constantly pressing the clutch. So those 2 are prob on a scenario where you're either on a traffic light or you're on a moving and stopping traffic.

    You make it quite fun. I have actually driven manual since I was a teen. In 2017 I bought a new A4 B9, six speed; however, the handbrake was gone, now it is a switch in the center console, activated and deactivated by the index finger. I live around a lot of city hills and it was quite an adjustment, always used to that forceful handbrake. Wonder if you have dealt with that change. In the US only 2017-2018 were available in six speed, so not many of us with this scenario here, I suppose. Thanks!

    What happens when my leg starts shaking from holding the clutch for 5 minutes. My clutch is stiff as hell. But 6:23 is exactly what I needed to know. That. And how to smoothly upshift. Somehow revmatch downshifting and pulling away from a stop in first gear were the easy things for me. Shifting from 1st to 2nd I still can’t get perfectly smooth my mirror scent always goes forward a smidge and it drives me nuts.

      Either is OK. Whatever is easiest for you. The main thing is that the car is controlled. It's not bad for the clutch. My car is almost 9 years old and it's driven by leaners that way all the time and it's still fine.

    an issue i have with driving standard is driving smoothly at low speeds.
    While im in gear, first and second, especially first, when i touch the gas and let go the weigbt of the car transfers a lot. Im not using much power at all. Once im going a bit quicker i have no problems at all.
    Should I be using the clutch more?

      At really slow speeds, most of the time you won't need to use the gas. If you're on a steep hill and your car is struggling, you might need a bit of gas.

      If the car is going down when you come off the brake, it means you haven't got enough of a biting point. Make sure you feel a bit of vibration first before releasing the brake, that way you know you've got enough of a bite and it shouldn't roll back. Hope that helps. 😁
