I love these watches, I have a NY0040-17LE with an 8204 that hacks and hand winds, supplied in the 'Promaster air tank' case, I removed the original strap and replaced it with an after market ND Limits markings in blue.
My wife hates you. Couldn't decide which Citizen colour should I get. So I ordered all of them. All 3 models. All reviews should be done like this one :)

Ny0040 new version with 8204 easily challenges and beats the rest of them. A diver with military specifications. Having used Makos, Rays, Skx for years and years i'd say Ny0040 is the best choice among them.
@@GadgetsforGentlemen There is no such thing, better than most 6r15 or 6r35 of Seiko. Performs identical to 6r15c of my old Sumo. Close to my new generation Alpinist with 6r35a in terms of timekeeping. 8204 should be standart for new generation Citizens.

My wife just ordered one for me for the Christmas present...I culdn't be happier...We are not really making much money and with 2 small kids have a lot of expenses, but she new I wanted it and ordered it for me...She's the best...I love her so much....can't wait for the delivery...

when i got my promaster ecodrive bn0151 my in-laws did not send me the air tank box in order to save some space in the package.. i wish i had that tank, it´s such a cool little detain and it would look great on a shelf.
I have the Pepsi (NY0086) and the dark green one (NY0084). I love the Pepsi one, specially on a Nato or elastic blue strap. Colors really pop! Perfect beach/summer watch! Since they are affordable, I'm thinking of trying to collect more colorways. Maybe add the Coke (NY0085), Sunburst blue and the Full Lume too, eventually. Thanks for the video!
I think they've done it like that so they could increase the overall size of the triangle. Also, vintage Seiko divers have the cut off triangles too so they're amongst good company.
Great review. I have the blue version of this watch but mine has a misaligned bezel. I guess i am just unlucky. Its a superb watch besides that. Try them with tropic straps. You wont regret.
Beautiful watches and interesting choice. Similar personal taste, like mine. In one moment I had had a dilemma between buying Orient Ray 2 and Citizen NY0040. Finally I decided and bought NY0040, black version, which I prefer over all another versions of this watch including fugu version. Only one thing, I would complain is too small crown, for my taste. There is one thing, I have not found out about NY0040 is about antimagnetic protection. Do you know anything about this?
Hi Alem, Orient Ray 2 is a fantastic watch too. But it has an even smaller crown 😉 According to ISO 6425 divers' watches standard: all ISO certified dive watches should have some shock protection and some magnetic resistance. Hope this helps! For more information look up the Miyota watch movement, it’s ISO certification and the ISO explanation 😉
G'day mate, I thought you did a really good review there. I bought the Citizen automatic divers watch from a dive store in Germany. It came with a 8204 movement that you probably know hacks and the rubber strap did not have the ND limits, it's just plain which I like. I've always liked the citizen automatic because it's built for task and is not a show watch ( does not have a see through glass back) which I don't like to see on a dive watch. You do really great videos there, and I think that you have persuaded me to get a Seiko skx oo9 as well. Very best wishes to you.
Hi Paul, thanks for your kind words. Excellent purchase. What color did you get? I bought a new black one with the new movement. Really love it. To me the 009 is a nice playful watch. Somehow the 0040 looks even more like a toolwatch (the real deal) imho. Anyway can’t go wrong with any of these (or Orient for that matter), but Citizen currently has one of the best bang-per-buck.

Looked around for the Seiko skx oo9 and they are quite exy but have found a good deal on a new 009 j from Singapore so have ordered one and will use this for my hols. Is it possible to align the bezel? I know it pops off, but its placement is dictated by the spring underneath. But I was under the impression that the dial/numbered part of the bezel pops out. I thought maybe you could fiddle with that to align it. Otherwise maybe try another spring. I'm not sure. I'm just in the middle of finding myself a diver and have been researching a bit. I prefer the newer ny008x for the whiter indices and bezel font, but want a solid black (not "coke").
I am not sure about this. I know a seller in The Netherlands who manually aligns the bezel of the Seiko SKX before shipping. To correct for the sometimes poor quality control of the alignment. Not sure if this can be done with the Citizen.
@@GadgetsforGentlemen I can't recommend it as I don't have experience with it, but I watched a video from LongIslandWatch where he was replacing the spring in an SKX (which is where I learned it was the offset spring that gave it its 60 clicks; ie the underside of the bezel only has 60 grooves) and he mentioned that it could be slightly bent to fix the alignment. I'm just curious how the bezel insert sits and if it's possible to adjust. I ordered an NY0085 that I'll hopefully have by Friday. Maybe soon I'll be brave enough to find out myself!
I ordered the blue one from Amazon in Germany - NY0040-17LE, but it looks a bit different - strap is plain blue without any text written on it, and bezel looks like the one from pepsi model (no sharp triangle at the marker). Do such models exist, or did I get a fake watch?
I think it does exist. They no longer do the text on the strap I heard. I bought the pepsi from a reputable seller. Thus I think this might be the new design?
Did yours arrive with the German datewheel and 8204 movement? I live in South America, but would like to order one from Amazon Germany just to get a German datewheel.
Nice review, i have the black version, and the total full green dial version, the latter has never been out of box, but i dont like the rubber straps, I put a high end Super Engineer bracelet on the Black one and it looks wicked, ! totally uncompromising as a military watch.
@@stefpix it was from Amazon, not the citizen bracelet which has folded links and open end links and therefore costs too much at around £55, the one I got Super engineer was around £40, really chunky and with screw pins and solid flat end links , ok the citizen one is custom made for that watch , curved end links and what not, but the Amazon super engineer makes it look really kick ass.

Ny0040 is a great iso rated diver. Love the glossy dial and I wear mine on a tropic strap.

What i hear is if the triangle is cut off on the bottom it means its the 8204 movement with hacking and updated lume

Does Citizen still supply the gas cylinder gift containers? Did I hear a rumor that they now only supply the watches in cardboard boxes?
In my experience it really depends where you buy them. Some sellers provide the whole set. Others only provide a simple box.

They redesigned the new ny0040 models and removed the nd limits, added hacking and changed the bezel a bit

Every review of the ny0040 says there is no hacking. I have this watch and am I the only one that has it with the hacking option?
I figured it out already. Mine has the 8204 movement.
There should be an improved movement that allows for hacking. Mine unfortunately only have handwinding.
