between build a soil and professor Bruce Bugby i have learnt major fundamentals for growing any crop successfully. I've done 2 rounds and this 3rd one is looking to be the most successful and dense crop yet. 4'x4' and looking to produce id estimate 2-2.5lb range and the quality is phenomenal. last one was just under 2lb. my fridge i stripped into a discrete setup produces 8-10z with a area of only 1'3"squared. finding a good pheno is half the struggle, the next is learning then learning the conditions the plant prefers, the rest is watch a whole heap of these guys videos to get a better understanding. very very informative!

I just found you channel and subscribed after watching the Clackamas Coot interview. I was on the ICMag forum in '09-'11 and the 4x4 bed in this video reminds me of the forum member "JayKush"... are you him?
I have not been on the forum in well over a decade but Clackamas, MicrobeMan, JayKush and others really influenced me over those years. I began building my own soil after Fox Farm changed their Ocean Forrest recipe around 2010. I was the guy that posted side by side photos of the new vs old Ocean Forrest and I was also the guy who got Fox Farm to admit they changed it after they denied it over and over.

I don't understand the dome for seedlings. I plant straight into 3 gallon pots then go to 10's. I have never lost a seed to a dry environmnt. I set the tent at 65% humidity with a fan on and boom. Off they go. Usually have to transplant after week 3 or 4. So far so good. I believe in stressing a plant quite a bit, but not too much and not to early. my last batch was on 50% light and came out amazing.

When using the 3.0 nutrient and mineral pack, I noticed you add the 6 pound kit to 4 gallons of peatmoss and the rest is aeration and other nutrient sources like castings, pumice, compost, etc.
I've always ammended the substrate per recomended instructions and then add to it the aeration and castings afterward.
I'm curious if I've been doing it wrong and should ammend soil with all aeration and compost included or just the substrate base.
Can I use the kit if I'm only running peatmoss alone? Seems a bit much but I'm no expert hence my question.
My grows are a night and day difference because of your videos and products. Thank you for your service to our community.

Those seedlings are looking very leggy... Is that an issue? I had a few that went about that size as well, and that was my fault because i had the lights up very high and didn't want to have too much heat in the room and they popped in 2-2.5 days and seemed to pop during nighttime so they got some stretch then and then when the light was a little high for a few hours....
I've heard that some dislike leggy seedlings because the claim of it using so much of the "Starter nutrients" in pushing up to get that light, that there might be issues later on? I don't know how true that is though. My seedlings are looking good so far though.
I just transplated into a 65 gallon(32" diameter) grow bagthat you (BuildASoil) sells (LivingSoil Bag or w/e), into a 3x3 acinfinity tent I got from you as well. Trying it out for the first time, and definitely liking it better than the SmartPots which would flop all over the place... These are a bit more RIGID. I did notice a little smell from what I believe was the plastic lining on the bag offgasing....
    ---------------------------------------
I'm also trying to pop some older seeds which i had good success with last year, but I'm having a ton of issues now popping them... So many rotted out, i think my soil mix wasn't good, so I put some of them into the old bag's mix and I hope it works out fo rme...

would my own home brewed lactic acid bacterial, or LAB juice be as beneficial as using bokashi? i use it on my compost so speed up the decomposition, and occasionally i spay it over my IBC tank worm farm when i add a massive feed and pea straws.
also is pea straw a good cover material for the substrate. ive been hesitant to chop and drop and cover crop as i use 20 or 25 ltr fabric pots and 4-5 plants maxing out my 1.2m sq space, but if i do i try add compost and worm castings over the top of the chop and drop waste to avoid molding waste on the surface.

Hey Jeremy, thanks for the Content and supplies. My question is : growing in 3 x 3 beds , after five or six grows they turn to basically worm castings. I have been scared to do anything other than amend topsoil because I follow the “no-till” method, A soil test came back a little heavy on micros and macros except nitrogen and calcium but too heavy on sulfur. Any advice on casting situation or nutrient corrections? Thanks again for teaching us about clean living and growing.

Do not, I repeat, do not place old seeds flat, place the pointy end down. Old seeds for some reason will shoot the tap root up the wrong way to the surface. Don't ask me why, but I've definitely observed this with old seeds. Even better using the pucks, once expanded drive a wooden skewer through the middle to create a thin tunnel. Push the seed in pointy end down just barely below puck surface. From what I've noticed, old seeds have just enough energy to crack and push down the tap root to the bottom of the puck, in turn helping push up the seed husk and cotyledons. Yes sometimes the husk gets stuck, mist with water and remove with a tooth pick asap. The quicker the cotyledons hit light the better. Tap roots on old seeds dont do gymnastics well. The tunnel made by using the skewer also makes the perfect air/moisture ratio for old seeds as only the sides are touching the media. Try it.

Cookies is a very bland inbred line... Also you get different phenotypes when popping seeds, some just suck

The more the merrier. It'll go away in a week or so.

It's a slippery slope questioning the value of science in cultivation or anything, really. Science is literally "...the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained." It's merely a method of organizing and evaluating theories developed via things such as personal experience. Sure, there are establishments in scientific disciplines (agronomy, horticulture, etc.), but that doesn't mean conclusions based on personal experience aren't science as well. As long as it's repeatable with controlled variables, it's still science! It's not one vs the other. I understand what you're saying about the establishment not having all the answers. I agree 100%. However, I think the techniques you describe that haven't been validated by the scientific establishment work well DESPITE you not knowing all the variables, rather than BECAUSE you don't know all the variables.
And there IS a science to making food taste better :) It's called sensory science and is a branch of food science. Most major foodstuff companies employ sensory scientists. There are literally peer review papers on how to make food taste better. We question the validity of science as we watch videos on paper thin screens typing on touchscreens, built at scale to within .00001% tolerance.
Sorry if this came off as pedantic. I guess i got triggered ;)

Hey Jeremy, first time MN grower here. Have watched over 80% of all your videos. Thank you for all the great info. My question: I have passed the first part of my grow with flying colors and my auto flowers look and smell fantastic. Fat and funky. I have dialed in my 2x4 dry tent as tight as I could get it, and am averaging 60-65Temps & 57-61Hum. I am on day 4 of dry. I noticed that all that beautiful smell has disappeared, and its that green smell like you get from the leaves. Unless I lightly squeeze check a nug then that lovely funky smell is on my fingers. I am hanging a whole plant like you do. Kind of worried I may be doing something wrong, but am hoping this is just what happens in the beginning of a dry and my lovely smells come back when they are actually dryer. Thanks EchoBravo

Cured and dried just fine, tastes fantastic and smokes awesomely. Turned the learning curve into a discovery curve and am better for it. Your videos were a big help in gathering info.

Great video I have a question I'm thinking about getting a 3x3 bed for my 4 x 4 tent I've been growing in 10 gallon fabric pots I have 8 of them. So my question is can I use those 8 10 gallon pots and use the soil for my 3x3 bed and just add more soil to make it add up to what I need. And what soil do you recommend I use? Thanks in advance

I have to ask about the microbes. You add them every time you water, don't you worry about overpopulating them? I mean, don't they naturally multiply in a favorable environment? Or are they sterile and just die off?
