    Great insight by Prof. 260Ibs of nitrogen is actually recommended fertilizer nitrogen not overall nitrogen needed to grow 230 bushel throughout the season.

    Two years ago I was walking a corn field that I had previously side-dressed with an ammonia bar. It was very dry and I could see purple corn roots that filled the open trench left by the applicator knife. The trench was in the middle of 30" rows. Are these roots that I had seen not used for feeding the plant?
