    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    It's a truncated version. Missing a verse, as well as the fade. But even that can't change the fact that Real True Lovin' is one of the most perfect records ever made. For my money, it's Steve Lawrence And Eydie Gorme's finest moment. Absolute, utter perfection.

    This song charted at number 20 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for Steve and Eydie in April of 1969 and bubbled under the Hot 100 at 119. Written by Carson Parks. They also sang "Golden Rainbow" and "Dear World" together on this episode. In addition, Steve sang solo "I've Gotta Be Me" (which has been posted) and Eydie sang "As Long as He Needs Me". Other guests included the Lennon Sisters, Peter Nero and the Cast of the musical "Hair".

      How can it been "under the Top 100", if it charted at 119 ?

    • @TomElvisSmith
      @TomElvisSmith 9 месяцев назад +1

      The bubbling under chart is a list of singles which were close to the Hot 100 but not quite there, so it's like an extension of the chart, from 101 and positions onward. Imagine it as a Hot 130 chart, and this single got to 119.

      @@hnc52 You're welcome, and thank you! No, Steve and Eydie's other duets from this Sullivan episode haven't been posted yet, although studio recordings of the songs have been posted on other channels.

      Great insight TES. Great clip. Vocals seem a touch reverb at the beginning. By 1969 it seems as though the teens had come to dominate the audience? How did one get tickets to appear in the audience?

    They were both awful here. As for her singing over her own prerecorded vocal track, that trick only works in the studio.
