Andrew Bolt calls out those who 'claim' Aboriginal heritage without evidence

  • Sky News host Andrew Bolt slams those who “claim to be Aboriginal”, despite genealogical records showing they’re not.
“I have told you over the years of so many people who have claimed to be Aboriginal when their genealogical records suggest they don't have a single ancestor who's Aboriginal,” Mr Bolt said.
“But it's in academia especially, so it seems in my experience, academia where you particularly get people saying they're aboriginal when the evidence I have suggests they're not.
“Again, they won't show me evidence that I'm wrong.”

In Tasmania, some 30,000 people claim to be Aborigine. What they really mean is that they have an Aboriginal ancestor. But even that is misleading as some Aboriginal groups claim that there are white people falsely claiming Aboriginal ancestry in order to obtain certain benefits. Now, the last Tasmanian Aborigine died in 1876. All born since then have mixed blood, which raises the next question, how long does a persons claim to be of Aboriginal descent last. My own ancient relatives, as recently as the mid 1800's were Irish. Does that mean that I can claim to be Irish? I doubt it very much. For the benefit of those people who have real Aborignal ancestry, the rules must be tightened, for example compulsory DNA testing, to reveal the fraudsters who are claiming benefits by theirnclaim to Aboriginality.

I am so proud of them. The government ran an Aboriginal Reserve from 1881-1951 on Cape Barren Island was created for Tasmanian Aboriginal people .Thats where my family come from. They tried to keep the bloodline going but that is extremely difficult when many were killed, taken by sealers or removed and therefore mixed with non Aboriginal people . What is wrong with keeping your identity proudly .I think many people are jealous of this connection Aboriginal people have to the land. I myself was adopted out and taken to NSW. I found my fathers family and have a great relatoinship with them .Im 62 work fulltime still and live a good life. I am proud to say I have Aboriginal heritage and love Australia.

Who cares if we are full blood or a quarter? We have Aboriginal blood. Some choose not to live the Aboriginal culture, and some do. There is no DNA test for Aboriginality; if there was one, I would gladly sign up and have it done. To be Aboriginal, you need Aboriginal ancestry, live the Aboriginal culture, and be accepted by a mob.
You seem a little bit confused about the matter, and comparing your heritage to Aboriginals is a meaningless example. How do you know there are fraudsters claiming benefits? Do you personally know a few of them? And yes, it did happen, whites were preferred over blacks when it came to jobs, got treated better all round etc. This happened when those discriminating, could tell by appearance, who they were dealing with. Having some ancestor five or six generations back, with no outwardly sign that could result in you being discriminated against, somehow qualifies you for special treatment now?

Yes, but remember this is a very small lost of perks for them:
Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS): This is a funding program administered by the Australian government specifically for Indigenous organizations and groups. It provides grants for activities aimed at improving the social and economic circumstances of Indigenous Australians
      .
ABSTUDY: This is a financial assistance program specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and apprentices. It helps with study costs, apprenticeship expenses, and travel
      .
Remote Area Allowance: While not exclusive to Indigenous people, this allowance is available to those living in remote areas who receive certain Centrelink payments. Many Indigenous communities are located in remote areas, making them more likely to be eligible
      .
Indigenous-specific health programs: The Department of Health and Aged Care offers free health checks specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
      .
Cultural Grants: The Aboriginal Affairs NSW Cultural Grants Program supports Aboriginal community organizations to celebrate Aboriginal culture and hold key cultural events and activities
      .
NAIDOC Week Grants: The NSW Government provides funding specifically for local communities and organizations to celebrate NAIDOC Week, which recognizes the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
      .
Community Development Program (CDP): This program, run by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, helps job seekers in remote areas (which often have high Indigenous populations) gain skills and find work in their communities
      .
Indigenous Languages and Arts Program: This grant supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in preserving and expressing their cultures through languages and arts activities

Ancestry should be proven now. If anyone just ticks a box saying they are that’s opened the door for touting financial benefits !

It is God that created this country and the world we live in! As a Christian I know this because I study my bible! The good Lord created this earth for ALL of us to enjoy! Nothing created itself 🤦🏽‍♀️

These people need to put their money where their mouths are, do genetic test. No one should be entitled to extra benefits ( a free lunch) based on a lie, failure to verify verbal claims by the department of Aboriginal Affairs is failure of their statutory duty. DO THE TESTS.

I know an older woman who always thought that she was indigenous. Some letters and documents were uncovered by the family that showed that she was definitely not indigenous although she does have half siblings who are. She wasn’t bothered too much but her son, an academic whose employment is tied to his Aboriginality was devastated. I guess he will simply identify as indigenous and continue on his merry way!
