I've gotten a few horses like her. I was with a friend at a tiny auction, and for a minimal white paint 7-8 month old chestnut filly for $25.00. I had to wait and get her coggins after I got her home. She was so sweet and a looker. I was the only one to bid on her. I got her cleaned up, got some great pics of her and sold her to a great family and a little girl.
She started to do a showmanship pattern, and already had a paint she was showing. She says, " she does it better than Chip!" Her horse. I only had her for about 3 weeks. And only charged about $150 to recoup some money. This was about 12 years ago.
I did go to a big auction that Addis Equine auction was trying to get off the ground in my area for Arabians and crosses, I bought a gelding with papers 1/2 Saddlebred/Arabian for $200, but I got him for a local barn because they couldn't make it to the sale. He went on to be a show horse. The big auction company just couldn't get in enough good horses and sell high enough to make it worth their while

@@caciliawhy5195She may have been forced to by law.
Re the rest, it depends on the circumstances.
I put a beloved (geriatric) pet down once because i just had enough money for that but I wouldn't be able to give her the care she deserved and needed from that point on. She would have suffered and she'd been through enough. She was a wild animal who I'd adopted from a wildlife rehabilitation facility. She'd been with me for 21 years and I'd emigrated with her twice. The vet wouldn't let me be with her when she went. I cried and cried and cried for a week (and I ended up hating the people who had forced my hand). In that same situation, I later rehabbed a wild animal who could have been a reincarnation of the other one, quite crazy. That one decided to live with me but also still went out to hang out with her pals and behaved like a regular wild animal outside. I let her go and while I know that she would survive again out there, I'm afraid that the horrible people where I was killed her. (They'd already killed and attacked several animals just to spite me, so I'm not being paranoid. One of those animals I was able to rehab, thankfully, and she recovered.) If so, I hope it was quick.
I've lost my faith in humans, generally speaking, and I've promised myself that I will not interact with animals until I have so much money that nothing like this can ever happen again. I never attached much value to money, but money gives you agency and it gives you the power to fight back. (I didn't used to see the world as a war zone. But it can be.)
Re the second animal, I know that she knows that if she's still alive, I let her go to save her. I know that she would know that. BUT that too was just as hard. You feel like such a failure and nobody understands or even wants to know about it.(except here)

She's a beauty! (QH?). I picked up a scraggly ratty looking pony at a small country auction a few years back. She had been running half wild and was around 4 years old. Skinny but with so much Winter coat she didn't look too bad. To cut a long story short, 'Possum' progressed into a lovely dapple grey with dark legs, hard hooves and very trainable. I found out later from a friend of the former owner that she was a Welsh pony and at one time all his ponies had been registered - I wish I had bought a couple more - but space did not permit. She was 'broken' and because she was only 13hh too small for us to keep so was sold to a family, the little boy (he was about 9) took her around the yard, rode her, petted her etc - love at first sight - and his Dad said yes. We later saw a photo of her at a regional show, the boy was jumping her and they won their class. They kept her name, 'Possum'.

There are great rescues like Horse Plus (Tennessee), Gentle Spirit Horses (South Dakota), Rockin KT Equine (Nevada) ... so there are people who do 1) love horses-treat them kindly and keep them, 2) run into financial challenges, 3) pass the horse on. At least people like Clever Cowgirl and the aforementioned are doing what they can. I came across a concert pianist who plays for (formerly abused) elephants: Paul Barton. He and his family do what they can for animals as well in their own way.

In my experience, most kill pen horses, or likely to go to kill pen horses with general health & nutritional issues, injuries, trauma with behavioral issues, or a combination thereof, are a huge challenge that most casual riders/owners are simply not equipped to manage. Successes are not the norm and the horses often find themselves back at auction. Your presentations are so honestly detailed they should be required viewing for those ready to embark on transforming a rescue. Most horse owners I have met over time have HUGE hearts. Their love of the horse and strong emotions to save are extraordinary. Sadly, where it often hits a wall is when there lack of understanding around the significant cost, time, required high level of training experience & trauma savvy, patience, unanticipated setbacks, and occasional failures that go with the territory. There are no shortcuts with what you do and it is clearly, without exception, detailed in each video. Well done!

In rescue, we see so much neglect that when we finally come across an owner with genuine love for their animals it is so touching. I ride that high for months! Usually it’s very bad financial situations that lead to these great owners giving up their pets- and usually they have to convince themselves it’s for the pets best interest. It’s heartbreaking but heartwarming at the same time.

Reminds me so much of my own mare, a dun Connemara x TB, who I found cowering at the back of a stall at our own local horse auction. She was a badly-handled 3yo, just a shade darker than Primrose in colour, with a white blaze and black legs. She was extremely pretty, but so nervy that when she went through the ring, nobody but the meat man was interested, so she went out unsold. I wasn't there to buy that day, but I ended up chasing after the seller and bought her on the spot for 400 pounds. Money well spent, because she grew up into an amazing horse, and it also turned out to be buy-one-get-one-free, because she was in foal, as I later discovered... Had her for 23 years until she passed away a couple of years ago, and I've still got the 'foal' who is now in her mid-twenties.

Hi, I wanted to say, I love what you're doing. In the Nethelands we don't have a lot of auction horses, but last december( 2 days before xmas) I rescued a gypsymare from slaughter. She only weight 350 kg (normal is in between 500-650 kg), 11 years, 140 cm sholder. She could not walk 20 meter from all the pain she had and last 2 years not going out of her stable, breedmare. 6 Years ago they made an accident with her (back and even het hindknee was popped out, never had specialists on her). So I did gave her all what I thought she needed. And now I can say, she is happy and painfree. I found out she is in fear doing soe groundwork , so I treaing her with patience and love, she is doing already better. I only don't know how to put on 2 lines for groundwork but I will get it in time :) thank you for all what your doing and I do think this mare of you is georgious, I would have saved her to if I could.

We cannot blame the former owner for their horrible life changes that mean they must sell their horses. I'm a retired dog trainer and have found the same thing. Once the basics are taught and the consistent lifestyle is established, the creatures respond beautifully. There is no need to force them into behaviors we want. They just remember and offer. My trauma dogs have some quirks, and some silly behaviors like hiding all the bones in the closet behind all the shoes. Prim is lovely and lucky to have found you. My body no longer lets me ride safely, so I am so glad you are doing the work.

She's an absolute beauty! You gave this lovely girl the opportunity to live and grow up to become an elegant and beautiful lady. She's a princess. This is what l like about you. You save horses without judging them so harshly like others do at auctions. You are not picky or choosy. You act out of love and compassion towards these creatures. I enjoyed so much watching your video. Wish you all the best❤

To pick up a horse like Prim is terrific. As a trainer with a passion for rescue, the Prim type horses can be an "asset" in supporting rescue! To have the ability to train and sell select horses will do many things! Build reputation for training, honesty and quality! It can grow and support rescue. Both sides of the coin, so to speak!! The growth can lean to even building an arena and training facility along with areas for rescue!

tBeautiful story for a beautiful horse and a beautiful person who is giving her a beautiful life! I can't imagine the heartache of the former owner and then the joy to find out Prim has a loving home. I cried. Thanks for the video. It's probably been mentioned before, but it reminds me of the starfish story. Does it make a difference to save just one? It makes a difference to that one!

Imagine the heartbreak of the owner . . . reaching out to her that you saved her beloved horse - turned her tears of anguish to tears of relief & joy!
CC stated her health & handling was good up to the point of her getting her - that bite on Primrose's neck was just the beginning of a dreadfully traumatic path for her if CC had not happened across her that day.
See how wonderfully God interweaves people's lives together to help one another!!!

Maxine at 14 months old was untrained and highly reactive to everything in her environment, cars, people, cats, traffic cones, shadows that looked like a prey animal, etc., the reactivity was mainly from a lack of socialization during a puppy's formative period. She had a three-bite record with a dog fight, both were from two separate handler's ignorance. @@TheCleverCowgirl

I would LOVE Primrose in the field next door to my house - she's a beauty. I LOVE her colouring, and the primroses are coming into bloom everywhere in England - lots having made their home in my garden. So Primrose would fit in splendidly - I would just have to get someone younger to ride her every day. Thank you for treating your animals so kindly, making sure they all get exactly what they need.
