But when it comes to Arabic names, or words, we don't go based on modern Arabic dialects, we go by classical Arabic. The name "Khalid", means eternal, lasting, or immortal. One might ask, all humans face death, so what did the Arabs mean by "eternal". Well, they mean 2 things. A long blessed life, and blessed afterlife.

Surah 69:44-47

"And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] saying
لَاَ خَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِا لْيَمِيْنِ
"We would have seized him by the right hand;"

"Then We would have cut from him the aorta."
فَمَا مِنْكُمْ مِّنْ اَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَا جِزِيْنَ
